    You REALLY need to get yourself some press blocks, pressing directly on the die is a sure way to warp it. And if you spread out the force with a block you can start in the middle and not move around as much.

    Really good series.
    I have a question though. I’m on AK-Builder and see different types of flats. I see the difference between under-fold receivers and fixed stock.
    However what’s the difference between for example Bulgarian, Polish, Romanian, etc? Having trouble choosing the correct flat.

    • @financingmysteries
      @financingmysteries Před 4 lety

      Baby Face P This is my plan. Buy a flat that’s 1mm thick then purchase the other parts.
      At least with my AR build I bought everything individually you can customize it the way you want.
      Which is what I want to do with my AK. So I most likely won’t buy a parts kit.

Second would I want to use a 1mm receiver for it? This is my first attempt and after watching your videos I decided I wanted to give it a try.

      @heaven-is-real Před 4 lety +1

      Wrong. They give side support to the magazine. How do I know this? Instead of dimples the WASR uses spot welded side plates instead of dimples. Additional plates spot welded in to give side support to the magazine. I know because a friend of mine owned a WASR-3, one of the plates fell out after firing it a couple times, then the magazine wobbled all over the place causing serious jamming problems.

If you got questions and are shopping on AKBuilder just call Lonnie and talk to him. He is a great guy and a wealth of information. I have spoken to him a few times with some pretty dumb questions and he took the time to explain it. Now I'm a know it all...just ask me lol JK. I bought both 1mm and 1.5 cuz I have an assortment of models that I am building. Was like 65 bucks for the other size piece after purchasing the 1.5 mm. Money well spent.

    So, does it cost more to bend the receiver than to just buy an AK? I think most guys are only going to make one or two. I do like your videos, but honestly the build method seems impractical and not cost effective at all unless you form a pass-around club for the dies. An 80% AR build, comparatively, is a lot cheaper for the tooling, I think. I could be wrong, I don't know.
    I think I would really like to see a video using a welded receiver rather than a bent one. Or milled? Would aluminum work? Or would it be too soft? I did an aluminum AR 80% and the process was fairly straightforward with a jig, and could be do-able without a jig, especially with a Chinese mini-mill or a very well set up router table.

    • @BabyFaceP
