D26 switch issue

  • I'm posting this information for those of you who may be interested in using an Xtar D26 dive light. The light itself is amazing. This is my second Xtar dive light (previous light was a D06) and I'm am very happy with the light, unless it's used in the water. This light is a "Dive" light but I'm very surprised at the issue I am having. I can't believe that Xtar released this light with this problem. I'm sure they tested the light at depth, but am assuming this testing was completed in a hyperbaric chamber and not in real life depth. Actually depth isn't even needed to find the issue. The video explains the issue but what is happening is that under water, when the switch on the light is pressed the air under the switch is forced out and when the switch is released the space under the switch is filled with water. This happens until there is only water under the switch which creates a suction and doesn't allow the switch to be pressed or to depress itself. I was hesitant before I purchased this light since I was extremely happy with the D06 by Xtar and the switch on that light. Is anyone else having this issue?

We had to remove the outer around the switch with a pointy nose pliers and replace the spring and magnet.Clean all parts and inner the use 9mm diameter 10mm long spring and 3mm magnet and screw tight shut

Hi, the switch of the previous version of XTAR D26 is sealed inside and when you press the button, the pressure of water makes it hard to come back. And this is the issue we have noticed and also has been solved. We design the switch that the water can goes inside to balance the pressure of both sides of switch when underwater diving. And of course, the switch is erosion-resisting that has no problem even if the seawater goes in. Thank you.

+Shenzhen XTAR So in the new versions of the D26 this issue has been solved? Is that what you are saying?

+Shenzhen XTAR Do I have to buy a new one or is this a part you can send me to replace? Being that the "issue was solved" there was obviously a manufacter/design issue to begin with. I do love my D26 but to not have this issue would make it even better. This is my 2nd Xtar light.

+Barry Vista Hi, sir. I saw the video is posted on 10/22/2013 and we guess the flashlight may not within 15 days free placement or 24 months free repair. You should have contacted us once you have the problem. But we do have limited lifetime warranty, that is
If problems develop after 24 months of the
purchase date, we will charge for parts. The total repair fee is assessed
according to the cost of the replaced materials, If damage to the product
is substantial, XTAR will contact distributors with a quote who should contact
the customers and customers will decide whether to exchange the parts or not.
Freight should be paid by distributors or customers. For more info:www.xtarlight.com/10-services/p-001.asp?id=10
Considering the shipping cost and the cost of replaced materials is not low, we suggest you to buy a new one.
Very glad that you like XTAR lights and thanks so much for your support.

+Shenzhen XTAR I tried that shortly before I posted this video back in 2013. I attempted to contact XTAR via the old VIP section you used to have on your site (www.xtarlight.com/en/14-user/p-001.asp) which is no longer active. I never got a response back then until your comment 24 hrs ago from my 2 year old video.

    Hello
Mine turns on normally and switches between different sets normally. However, after rurning if off pressing the key won't turn it unless i wait sometime or give it more tries.
    What is the problem here?

The normal function is holding down the button for about 2-3 seconds for it turn off. Is that not happening for you?

After years of use it still does it but not so bad...I use it for free diving and scuba so i usually just spit on in the switch (yuck i know) to get it going the first time.

Unscrew the ring around the switch and remove the push button. Remove the o-ring around the push button - it is not needed and the problem will go away.
