So, after those teasers I've uploaded before, you're probably wondering "what happened to that map?".
Well, it's here! Funnily enough, about half an hour after I've uploaded the map, another mapper had also uploaded a build of Deserted onto the Steam Workshop. So now there is two Deserted maps on the Workshop! Oh well.
However, considering I know how much work and effort goes into making these things, it's only fair if I also leave a link to their copy instead:

Try both. See which one you like most! Anyway, the footage you see here is from the map that I've made.
Porting the map was an interesting ordeal. Considering that most assets from the Fusion build show up fine in SS4, most of the work was put into segregating the files into the correct folders, and making sure all assets that were broken were fixed. Materials and particles were by far the most difficult part, same with the destruction models. One destruction model can have multiple phases etcetera, so it was a lot of work for a single model. Going one by one was the most efficient way.
The Sandwhale actually still exists in the SS4 engine considering it has left overs from the Fusion/SS3 builds still. Might be a bit buggy but eh. Crumbs are completely broken in SS4. They get discoloured for some reason and by default don't cast any shadows. I did what I could with what I was given really.
The only thing I will want to improve on this map in the future is the enemy clipping in the dunes. Not quite sure why it's happening, but when I get the time I'll make sure to update the map accordingly.
I was originally considering adding the Sledgehammer resource onto the map, however I've decided against it. Knife fullfills the same role and in the late game you're pretty much stuck with just the rocket launcher anyhow. To reduce the likelyhood of in-experienced people asking why the map isn't working, I've just ignored any resources outright. Sorry.
All the assets on this map are saved in the level's folder to remove any incompatibilities with future mods on the Workshop.
Anyway, map is released, have fun! Maybe play it in CO-OP just like in the good old SS3 days... just no Sirian Bracelet. Or the Sledgehammer.

very nice. i tried both maps. one has the sledgehammer and the other is more polished. playing this one does feel like it would belong in ss4 by default tbh

Excelent SS3 port :) Just played it - it's pretty good, I enjoyed it(managed to last 6 minutes on first try btw). I was also happy to see a working Sandwhale :D
Speaking of ports, may I ask you how did you manage to port SS3 level over to SS4? Cause every time I myself tried just to open SS3 level in Editor, it always results in "license" errors lol 😂

So, this is kinda a workaround, or at least how I did it.
Get any map you want (ideally from the Fusion build, and I'll tell you why in a sec).
Open it up in the Serious Editor 2017.
Save it. (literally, just save it)
The file you've just saved is the file that has no more licensing on it. Next step is loading it into the SS4 editor.
      Open up SS4 Editor.
(VERY IMPORTANT) In the SS4 Editor console, type in "md_bLoadIncompatibleTypes=1"
Load up the map you've saved in Serious Editor 2017.
And that's it. You've just opened up a SS3 map in the SS4 editor.

@@PavlovYT I tried it out and it works! Thanks a lot 😀 Though there is one small issue: this method only works with original(aka Croteam-made) maps. When I try to open levels I made myself, there is "license" error 🤔Dunno why.

@@Soldier3856 hmm, i'm guessing your map is in the fusion build right? Is SSHD or SS3 themed?

@@PavlovYT Yeah, and it's for SS3. Its a small map made for some testing stuff.

@@PavlovYT What's funny, while trying to get my SS3 map to work in any possible way, I took a Croteam-made MP level, deleted everything in it, and then copy and pasted every single object from my SS3 level to it. And strangely enough, it opened without problem 😮
Now, my theory on why that method even worked is due to license stuff. IIRC there was a long time ago (and perhaps still is) a problem with custom content made for SS3/Fusion that wouldn't work without having JOTN DLC even if the content itself didn't use any of DLC stuff. Perhaps, after one of the updates, every newly user-made content got additional DLC licenses applied to it, even if the user didn't have it installed, while the original Croteam content wasn't affected by them. And maybe SS4 Editor, while able to load in Croteam made stuff, can't open other stuff due to "lack" of some unknown licenses.
Or maybe the problem lies in some other stuff I don't know about lol 😆
