Yes, I'm repaying a house loan also - and want to repay it as soon as possible, and I've previously been excessively shopping, so I have so much stuff already. I'm dedicated to not buy anything but necessities for the next 55 months (!). ;) I'm exactly 22 days in, but I know I'm good at sticking with decisions. Also, as I said: I really need to shop my own closet - I have so many items that I love (and have completely forgotten about). It's an eye opener to actually REALLY organize your belongings, because chances are if you want something specific that you already have it. An example - I was thinking I needed more sports bras, but as I went through my sportswear it turned out I had 5-6 more sports bra... So, I'm looking forward to becoming debt free AND getting to wear some of the awesome I already have. :)

I don't care about frivolous shit anymore, like I've completely lost interest in keeping up with all of the new things. I have more time and energy so I started reading books again, which I haven't been able to do for the last I dunno ten years..? I can't imagine going back to my old ways. Thank you for this video! I am actually at the other end of the spectrum, an extreme minimalist. I don’t even have a bed. I sleep on a yoga mat. It’s hard for me to spend money even on basic things (like clothes!) that I need. So, this year I’ve allowed myself to buy good quality basics. Nothing trendy or fast fashion. I feel extreme consumerism and extreme minimalism are both ends of the same spectrum and caused by the same emotion: fear. Fear of missing out or fear of spending money. Both indicate a lack of trust. It’s fascinating to see how we all relate differently to things. Love your channel! ~Sarah

In 2019 I tried to go low-shop but only lasted 3-4 months. Now, I'm back on it and really want to make it this time around.
I've downloaded Money Matters app on my phone and first I did reality check. Listing all my purchases for 2 months, then I budgeted how it should be from now on, and I find that tracking every single purchase really helps.

I’ve recently started to live more minimal which has changed my mindset a lot! This low buy series is helping me SO much. I have an impulse shopping habit and never really need things but I act like I need it and then end up with so much clutter and no money. I am not no longer watching hauls or being consumed into sales and things that will try make me spend money. Thank you so much! You have inspired me and helped my mental health. I have learnt to appreciate the things I have now ❀

    Great video!
I’ve been a shopaholic ever since I got my first pay check. I’m now 33.
My usuals are clothes, shoes, bags, make up, sunglasses, skincare. Basically things that I can wear. It’s how I express myself.
I used to be so bad. I’d be obsessed with something and have to get that specific item. I’d love it and wear it but also be onto the next thing then the next then the next. It’d go on and on and on for years. Some things were stupid money that I didn’t have, some things I wouldn’t even wear or use and were a complete waste of money.
This year we had a cash injection. I paid off all my debts and have had disposable income. It’s been really hard! I’ve been shopping loads. I’ve tried to be sensible though and to be fair I absolutely love every piece I have. People would (still do) stop me around the office saying ‘you look fabulous’ ‘I love that shirt or jumper, where did you get it?’ ‘yet another stunning outfit’ ‘you are always so well put together’ I loved it, I still love it. I love wearing beautiful clothes, even if they are cheap (most of my clothes are not designer) it’s not the price, it’s the style.
I feel like I’m finally starting to plateaux with my spending. I’ve realised that I like to have enough outfits on rotation but it’s not too extensive. I’ve watched videos of people decluttering their wardrobes and have 10x what I have. I threw a lot away to be replaced with new and I feel like I’m there. This month (June) has been good for me. I bought a couple of summer off the shoulder tops and I bought a spare of a shirt I already have. No make up. Nothing. I’m in a really good place with my wardrobe and make up. I still browse but most of it I don’t like or don’t feel I need and this month I’ll have £300 left over at the end of the month which I’m really proud of.
I’m still getting so much joy out of the things I already have. I will look at an item and remember how I felt when I first bought it and I feel that still appreciating the things I have helps keep me on track. It helps me to not get obsessed with something new.
Hope everyone else is doing well this year!

I’ll be honest - I needed to hear this. I don’t have debt (other than a mortgage, will be gone next year), have money in the bank and retirement, and live a comfortable life. The issue is that I don’t need one single thing. I have WAY more than enough clothing, shoes, skincare, makeup, etc. I had set a goal to sell items on Poshmark and do a no buy this year, and I’ve failed miserably. I’m really disappointed in myself, especially because I’m very disciplined in several areas of my life, but a couple areas where I struggle really bother me. I need to make the change, and Im going to continue to watch your videos and look at Hannah’s, as well (already a fan of Dave). Having my morning coffee, and I love watching your videos. It’s amazing how decluttering branches out to every aspect of your life. I decided to Swedish death clean after my parents passed. I never wanted my daughter one day to have to deal with ridding our possessions. I knew we had years before this would happen, but I was just so upset after my siblings and I had to sell my parents home. This was 4 years ago. I never was a over buyer, but still had so much I didn’t wear, or use or love. Fast forward to,now , and 6k worth of donations, and also selling my unwanted items. I have a nice bank account, plus I only have what I use, want, love.
I lost the 20 lbs I had always wanted to, I became plant based, I am really aware of the environment, I only buy something if I need it, or to replace something that is no longer good, like this week my soup ladle broke, I needed to buy a new one. My walk in closet has about 4 empty racks, I find I don’t need a lot of clothing, I just mix and match my capsule wardrobe, and use accessories to change up the look. I don’t go browsing, which is key...
I just adore your your content. Your straight and to the point.

This is totally validates my transition to low-buy. After realizing that debt has been gradually piling up, and due to the need to save up for my wedding and subsequent honeymoon, I also felt the need to do something drastic/substantial (I sometimes find that a 'cold turkey' approach works well for me). Your mention of feeling 'not enough' definitely resonates, and I would often find that if I felt bored, anxious or stressed, I would use shopping to regulate or give a little boost - which just creates issues and compounding debt - not relaxing or anxiety-reducing at all.. Many thanks :)

Wow what an honest video. So much of what you spoke about resonated with me. I too am going through a shopping detox of sorts. About a year ago I was fed up and overwhelmed at the amount of clothing, shoes and accessories I had accumulated and yet still felt I had nothing to wear which was ridiculous! I decided to take stock of what I had and take back control. The game changer for me was discovering an app called Stylebook which is your virtual closet on your phone. It took me ages to photograph everything I owned and populate it on the app but I haven’t looked back since. I found that I’m a visual person so if something is out of sight it’s out of mind. But now everything is catalogued and I can easily see everything that I have to put outfits together, pack for trips and thoughtfully plan to buy items that I discovered I needed from styling my outfits. I have bought a minimal number of things this last year but miraculously everything I have bought I am using and enjoying because they were purchased with thought and purpose. I’m getting more use out of the things I have instead of just wearing the same 10 - 20% of my wardrobe. I also use the app to put together inspiration outfits I find on the internet and continue to be amazed that I can mimic the majority of them without buying anything. And the best part is that I have put together a catalogue of outfits I can refer to when I’m feeling uninspired. I have received so many more compliments on my look this last year as I’m more put together. I’m writing about this here in case this kind of tool could help someone else. Thanks for the video!

I've felt the same way about buying new things often, so I soon reliazed I needed to cultivate a resolve to use all my shadow palettes, serum, etc. before buying more makeup. New booties? I need to run my current booties into the ground and try taking them to a shoe repair before buying new ones. Hole in a dress? Strap break? Get out my sewing kit and try to fix it before I buy a new one. For that new face care product thrill, I have a small subscription box with 4 masks for $8 and I'm not allowing myself to buy more masks outside of that sub. There's room for improvement but you're right, this is about growing and learning to find an individualized strategy that works.

Good video - thank you! I have really reached a low ebb with compulsive shopping. I’m sick of being in debt. I “fall in love” with stuff, then as soon as I get the item home I lose interest and forget about it.

Great video! I have also been trying to have a low buy year. It's so awesome to hear your thoughts. It is really hard, and for us in America, we get bombarded by Sales all the time. I have had to unsubscribe from a lot of companies.

This video is so relatable! I'm in baby step 2 since October 2018 and love Dave Ramsey. You are right, he feels like a dad that is just giving it to you straight. 😅 Every dollar app has changed.my.life
Thank you for speaking with such honesty and caring about others that are going through this. You popped up because my CZcams history is Dave Ramsey and minimalism. I'm excited about not only having no debt but also a decluttered home . Great advice, thank you!!!!

You can do it. When I see the stuff I have I feel sick, or the mountain of receipts. I’m only buying a few staples, getting rid of multiple cheap crap. I will buy comfy sneakers, but absolutely no clothes. I wanted two ripped jeans, and a white pair and a white pair of shorts and that’s it. I went through my closet and go rid of a lot of shit. I’m still decluttering. I got rid of some of my suites and the ones I kept I’m wearing with sneakers even if going to the mall. If you love something and have not worn it in a long time, but don’t want to give it away....create your own style and wear it , don’t wait for a special occasion. Wear that suite to the mall with your runners, and a white tea shirt. Do you, and enjoy the things you have by creating your style. I feel sick when I see how much I have spent on crap, and I’m done. I went into the mall with my daughter, and when I looked at all the clothes I felt nothing, no temptation. All I saw was me packing my closet with crap. After de cluttering, I enjoy going into my closet, because I can see everything. Another thing I use to do was go to the mall when I was bored, and I would spend like an idiot. I no longer go, unless I need something. I also will be using all the makeup I have, I flipping don’t need anymore. I ran out of a blush, and I went and purchased one, then I ask myself... could you not find something in your collection to give you that same look...I did, and I returned the blush. I have also returned things with tags on them, or things I have never used. I have store credits, and I can use the store credit to use as gifts for my grand kids. I can’t believe how I was so addicted. I racked up my cards, and I could have had 100s of thousands saved in stead of debt. Wear what you have, if you are weak, leave your credit / debit cards at home . Just bring a little cash maybe 20 dollars when going to the mall. Think about where you could be financially, and what spending has caused you. Many of us spend so much, we would sneak bags into the house so our husbands don’t see. That is being dishonest to your partner, and will affect the relationship. Ladies let’s do this, we CAN!

Also I watched “The deal cost” on Netflix and I was sick to my stomach. We need to stop adding to the problem of ruining the environment. Watch that documentary it may help you

This is just a resounding EFF YEAH., Mitzy ! I feel everything you feel about this - amazing insight and growth. I will have to watch that Netflix special as well. Just learning about the environment and minimalism as a result of this

Just did a low spend with food. So only 1 going out and strict limits on processed foods. So hardly any store bought snacks and the only processed food we allowed ourselves was tofu and peanut butter. You can save so much going back to eating mostly whole plant foods 💚💾

Thank you so much for this video. I struggle so badly with buying stuff I don’t need simply bc I think it looks cute. It’s very frustrating. I did a no buy for a few weeks but I always end up shopping again out of boredom.

Great video!! Loved listening to your tips and learning how you're going about it! Social media and the influx of emails and ads can totally trigger behavior we don't want. Totally respect you for realizing what's going on and working to change it. Keep going, you're really doing amazing! xx
