It's incredible how fast the gen 5 cars were in 2007. It is 4km/h faster than a gen 7 in turn 1 and 19km/h faster in the straights.
I think you meant four but yeah, we have kind of gone up and down in speed since the Gen 4 era ended
yeah
Now if the Gen 7 had the same or more horsepower I bet it would push more speed, they have 670 and were able to hit 203 at Michigan
Imagine what they could do with 750, 825, or 900 HP
Ya they had 870 hp un restricted
@@tylorcompton lordy no wonder they were loud
going 150mph in the 1950s mustve been terrifying.
I've always loved the Dodge Daytona for how radical it looks, but true love is the Hudson Hornet. First car to hit 100mph on the track
Yeah, such a shame there isn't a 3d model for assetto corsa :(
R u talking bout the first in nascar
That’s a plymouth
@@matthewrumpf5206 🤓
That's the Plymouth-Superbird, not Dodge-Daytona Charger
I was expecting the gen 4 car to wipe the floor with the others because they were incredibly fast, like getting up to 217 MPH so the results surprised me.
Yeah, this doesn’t feel like each car was setup how it would have raced at each track
It was an early 90s G4. If they did like an early 2000s it woulda been a different story
Here’s the thing:
During 1969 NASCAR the Daytona came out and it was insanely powerful (as you said, it reached 217mph at Bonneville 2 years later)
But NASCAR during 1970 said they were too powerful and introduced a restrictor plate, so aero cars now are way slower than how they would be without a restrictor plate; however they were still dominating, and so, NASCAR banned winged cars.
Basically the Superbird in his video and in real life had a restrictor plate even tho in real life it’s removable (because it came out in 1970 where plates already existed)
However, the ban wasn’t to the car, it was to the fact that, an aero car couldn’t have a big engine, you could race a winged car but without the normal engine, only with a small one.
Richard Brooks did that in the 1971 Daytona 500 and was almost winning anyway, but after an accident he ended 7th, which is still insane
And last: it takes a long long time for winged cars to reach their top speed
I think Watkins Glen doesn't highlight the weaknesses of the other Gens vs the Next Gen because of how high speed it is. The Next Gen has better handling and braking by far.
Actually the Gen6 is over a second slower than the Next Gen around Watkins Glen. Check 21' and 22' times. And yeah Watkins Glen isn't the most representative road course in the schedule but it's the coolest and most important ;)
It's actually not as much as you think, it mainly just the dumb independent rear end and new chassis for these cars, that make them handle road course racing better.
it's the brakes more than anything; the independent rear suspension and wider tire are other huge factors
@@Maverick9k generally so.
@@zoot_333 agree. So did downforce that those cars gonna take.
I thought about requesting this video a few days ago, since this year, us NASCAR fans celebrate the 75th anniversary of the motorsport. Great video!
Thank you man!!
Do this again on Daytona back when the superbird was running the track they were the fastest cars pushing 200+ I don't think any Nascar has done it since
You're welcome!
Gen 4 cars in 2004/2005 were hitting 200+ at Daytona and Talladega, plus Bill Elliott set records in 1985 and 1987, well after the Superbird, but I do agree the Superbird is legendary
@@Jdog2201 yes. Never forget that iconic Plymouth Muscle Car Superbird that also ever appeared in Gran Turismo 2.
I loved going to the winged COT races they would scream louder than any other car I’ve heard
Winged COTs are underrated. The only problem is hoe they took off😂
@@THEWINDTUNNEL I’m into it
@@THEWINDTUNNEL I know what you mean, Those Gen 5 cars look quite rapid.
NASCARs have no muffler
@@synthwav Exactly, NASCAR race cars having loud exhaust, which is why I love them!
I grew up in the Gen 4 Era, but seeing a Gen 1 and 2 in this video alongside modern stock cars is impressive.
I fucking LOVE this channel props to the random races I’ve always wanted to see
We really appreciate it man. We love subscribers like you ;)
NASCAR actually did a real lap with the most famous cars throughout the sport with AR just before the Daytona 500 this year! You predicted it before the actual thing!
LINK TO IT
personally i like gen 3, 4 , 5 because those where the best, but also gen 3 and 4 were actual cars that inspired events like time attack. price wise i would pick gen 4 and 5 because when they are retired. they are dirt cheap. and really well built
That COT sound after it passes by🎸🎸
Nascar should come out with a game for consoles and it should be like project cars 2 we're you can race every generation of Nascar cup series cars first Gen to the 7th gen cars
wish you would have added an earlier gen 6 too, would have been the fastest by far. The 2019-21 gen 6 only ran 550 hp on the ovals but earlier versions were unrestricted and still had all that downforce
The best era for the gen 6 car was 2014
Gen 2 was the fastest 200 mph all day long
The first 3 gens look vastley different but from 5 to 7 they become stagnant.
First 3 gens cover 41 years, 5 to present covers 14 years. Of course the design was going to radically change
@@R34Rules I know that but as time goes on the difference and look of the car becomes less apparent.
@@R34Rules THEN THEY GOT LESS COOLER CAUSE GEN 5 TO NOW THEY ALL JUST BLEND TOGETHER ITS LAME
I think the Gen 6 was beautiful, and the pinnacle of engineering in the sport. The CoT looks so thrown together, Gen 4 looks like a dirt modified on steroids, and the Gen 7 is just a terrible idea.
@@travisburton2948 Yeah Gen 7 feels like a downgrade sometimes.
This is what I want in the next nascar game.
The different generations of cars, along with the different generations of nascar legends 🤞🤞🤞🙏🙏🙏
I will always appreciate how insane NASCAR is and what they've done over the years, the COT has to be one of the loudest cars NASCAR ever produced. I went to the 2010 Kobalt 500 and man them things were mean. The Gen 3 and 4 will always be all time classics, Gen 1 and 2 are the founding fathers of our sport. Gen 6 was basically the COT but with more brand identity, and the Gen 7 is one of the most unique generations yet. It's a mean racecar, it sounds mean, and they go bad fast for such limited Horsepower they have (670), if they had the same HP as the COT, I bet it could beat it easily and be louder tenfold! And hey, here's to another 75 years of amazing NASCAR racing 🏁
What´s your favourite era in NASCAR?
2014 Cup engine and areo package!
Gen 5-7 are my favorites, though Gen 4 is not too far behind
Late 80s!!!
I like the current Gen-7 cars. They produce awesome racing, and help drivers show their real skills, despite having all those safety issues.
Any era, without a doubt.
This makes me wish NASCAR would take a page out of IndyCar and IMSA's book and have vintage exhibition "races"/sessions at select event throughout the season with cars from each generation
For more context, the gen 4 and gen 6 would’ve challenged the gen 5 in their fastest iterations.
Great vid man. I think the gen 7 looks the best
Really appreciate it bud!
Interesting that the gen 7, a car designed to work on road courses as much as ovals, lost to the previous generation, which didn't focus on road courses
Happy 75th anniversary, Nascar, my favorite racing
This is so awesome 👍
Appreciate it ;)
This is an interesting comparison. At the very beginning an excellent standing start and line up.
Seeing as to how the Gen 5 car was best on speedways, and known for its tandem drafting, compared to Gen 6 cars on road courses with their pack racing, what if Gen 5 cars tried being the pusher in a tandem with a Gen 6 car at a track like Talladega? I could picture it being simulated before the Gen 5 car pulls a Kevin Harvick and steals the win at the line, that sounds golden
I wish I could find the files for the gen7 nascar for AC, yet all I found is mainly previous generations, I love them all, yet I haven't tried the gen7 one. And hopefully there's some Chevrolet models. Great video for the 75th of Nascar!
:) m.facebook.com/groups/940405266010495/?locale=es_ES
Would be interesting too see full race at RC see how many laps down 1949 car would go lol
It would finish somewhere around 20 laps down😬
you should compare their speeds at Martinsville since its always had a date in the nascar schedule
It'd be cool if someone made a movie about stuff like this. Maybe one where the cars have actual personas!
In all seriousness this was pretty cool.
Very nice and well done.
Would have been cool as well to see rolling starts too though, as standing starts aren't really done in NASCAR, or indeed very often in the USA in general.
Thank you! We couldn't do rolling starts in this sim :(
It'd be interesting to see the comparison of the cars in the later years of each era. The 850 hp Gen 5 cars from 2006 were significantly faster and had more aero than the early 90s ones.
The best channel
🙌🏻
The wing cars superior at the big ovals....do a super speedway test. They ran before restrictions...so if this game is accurate, they would dominate there.
I had to look this up, the but wing car would be second. I thought it was faster than the Gen 3 cars after the plates but the 1989 pole speed was 196.996 with plates compared to 194.015 in the Superbird. It wasn't until 1992 with Gen 4 cars that they were slower than the Superbird. And, this surprised me, but the wing cars weren't the fastest of those Gen 2 cars with 1979 qualifying speeds actually exceeding the Superbird speeds.
@jkmoore1120 Interesting! Never looked up average speeds or compared them. Knew them old wing cars were still badass but did not think anything else came close. I know unrestricted the newer cars of course could be better....but gotta love this sissy generation that has to limit everything.
@@Monte1970SS I was surprised as well. I knew the Superbird was the first car to lap Daytona in over 200mph. I'd assumed that was in qualifying for the 1970 500 but it was a couple years later not in a 'legal' setup. I actually thought what I would find was that the wing cars were faster than everything other than pre-1987 Gen 3 cars; I knew the mid-80s speeds were faster, that's when Bill Elliot ran like 213 at Talladega. I've said for quite a long time that what I thought NASCAR should do (since they're never going to just let them go wide open for fear of a car going into the crowd, killing a bunch of people, and getting the whole sport shut down) is go max horsepower on the engines, cut the spoilers off, and give the tires half the grip. Go 225mph down the straight, that's fine...now slow down enough to get through the turns.
Nascar needs to listen to the fans with this one, fast cars = good racing, faster cars = best racing, and for the safety side of things, Indy car and f1 run faster cars and they don’t have as many fatal accidents, heck the gen 7 has more injuries than the gen 5 and the gen 6 cars put together, and the gen 7 have less horsepower and less speed.
I don’t want to offend you but the Gen 4 one is from 1990, which it was still Gen 3. The Gen 4 one has headlights on it that was introduced in 1992. Great vide overall.
Need a short track and Superspeedway test
Sweet...
Ah yes nostalgia is back
I like how the “stock” in stock car gradually faded into oblivion.
i think this video is great as a nascar fan. my only issue is you chose the worst oval on the schedule. i think charlotte motor speedway would have been way better
That or Atlanta, both are mostly the same, but Atlanta takes the cake for me. The longer track and steeper banks just makes the track look and feel so mean, I’m planing on getting nascar heat 5 on me Xbox and the first track I’m going to is Atlanta, and yes Texas is a shitshow of a track.

Would’ve liked to see Talladega or Daytona simulated, see how the 200+ mph speed of the Supwebird would hold up against more modern cars under race conditions.
THE KING 43 ❤️
This just shows the car of tmrw is the GOAT
Gen 1 really tried its best but it does show how far NASCAR has gone.
Happy 75 years to NASCAR! I happen to have some diecast NASCARs in my miniature collection, but my #1 favorite of my NASCAR is my Hot Wheels Chevy Stocker. This casting is modeled after the NASCAR version of the 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the "Chevy Stocker" would be considered a Generation 3 NASCAR. Also, does anyone remember NASCAR Racing 1994 on DOS on the computer? Well, if I'm not mistaken, that game is from the 4th Generation era of NASCAR.
COT is goated alongside with the Gen 4
Funny thing is, a gen 3 holds nascars speed record
Gen 6 is probably my favorite aesthetically speaking. And those 5s were fast. I hated Gen 7 when they first came out, but they're growing on me.
I wonder how it would have played out on Daytona after acouple laps as the older generations didn't have restricter plates, might be something to look into. Idk may be interesting as the newer gens have more hp but at speed there limited where as the 3rd and 4th (I think) are not.
but what about the truck and sprint car series? those would be pretty cool(the did the truck series during gen 4 and still going currently) plus gen 7 is actually going to be racing in the Le Mans series
I hope so much all these cars will be included in the next Forza Motorsport
Two of the three seven time champions. Interesting.
I love how the poor Ford Standard Coupe is just lagging behind all the other cars
Growing up with gen 3&4 I always felt Gen 5 was the fastest, but thought I was biased because of the huge jump the cars advanced from what I grew up with.
But seeing the gen 5 is even faster than 6 and 7 just made my day. I knew they felt more intense to watch and now I know why
The last time I was with a girl, the gen 5 cars were on track. That perspective is the most damning. 🤣
I loved gen 6
Just an FYI in NASCAR, they have a rolling start. It’s where they go around the track to get some heat in the tires. Then they drop the flag.
We know, huge NASCAR fans here. The sim doesn't allow it unfortunately:(
The gen 5 was the best, faster and safe. I grew up with this era.
How did you get that version of the COT
Surely that's a horsepower thing. The new car is miles ahead on road courses
I have some corrections as a winged car nerd:
1. 0-100 of the gen 2 cars is longer, 5.78 seconds is too quick. It takes about 7.5 seconds.
2. If this is Assetto Corsa, I’ve seen that Superbird mod (which is the Gen 2 car), and that car is sadly way underpowered because I’ve seen the weight of the car is written to “1760kg” which is about 100kg more than how it weighted in reality. Plus, the car top speed is severely limited in this mod, and it makes no sense because if the *average speed* in Talladega was 200mph, means that during straights, the car reached way more than 200mph (even 205mph) and during banked curves, a bit less.
3. I think how it handles corners is a bit too overpowered, the winged cars struggled in road courses even back when they were released, because they were superspeedways cars, they had a hard time in corners but had insane top speed
4. I think Texas is too little to represent each car full potential, because a track like Talladega would have been a better way to showcase the speed of each generation
Gen 1 looking like a Rick Ware car out there
2030 will be Nascar's 80th year
Gen six was alot of fun to watch on road course. Pretty sad how Gen 7 is since it is essentially a road car build. Lets see what happens this year!
The 4th generation car deserves another shot with as a 2003-07 model. Those were among the fastest NASCAR cars ever.
Fair enough but I would have to add a later Gen 1 (20 years newer), a 900hp Gen 6 etc. Should we redo this with the fastest car of each gen?🤔
@@THEWINDTUNNEL maybe. I think it's more that there's such an evolution over the first few generations that was more manufacturer-driven advancements in that the mindset was what you see in Victory Circle on Sunday is what you'd want to buy on Monday. Compared to the fourth through current generations that had more improvements in the race shop such as aerodynamicists being very elite at one shop, or a chassis engineer and in addition to that, engine tuners also pushing the numbers to those 900+ horsepower monsters of days gone by. I understand why the early 90s iteration was chosen looking back, as the overlap in performance would've been too close between the later Gen4 and the CoT (the Gen 5 car).
At any rate I enjoyed the video, and look forward to more!
This video looks better than the 75th anniversary video Nascar themselves put out
Wow, really appreciate it man!
Correct me if I’m wrong but I remember the Gen 4s weren’t even able to start moving forward from a dead stop without assistance. I remember it happened once during a pit stop where the pit crew forgot to push the driver forward.
Yeah, their acceleration was pretty poor due to the gear ratios
Any links to the Cars/Track?
Yet supposedly the gen7 car was built for road courses and the previous gen6 still dominates lol
i miss the COT
Gen 1 car be like “hello, all you happy people.”
kinda wish you did 5 laps on Daytona or Talladega speedway for the oval to actually show the potential of the gen 2
Let me guess the cars:
Gen 1: 1930s car (I think)
Gen 2: 1970 Plymouth Superbird
Gen 3: 1981 Buick Regal
Gen 4: 1992 Chevrolet Lumina
Gen 5: Early 2010 Dodge Charger
Gen 6: 2020 Ford Mustang
Gen 7: 2022-23 Toyota Camry
Right on! Gen 1 is a 1938 Ford Coupe
Where'd you get the mods? They're cool but I haven't seen some of them before
And at this years 24 hours of Le Mans a Next Gen NASCAR Chevrolet Camaro is going to race at the famous garage 56.
1967 ❤
Interesting. As the Daytona was the first car to hit 200mph, I wonder what a fast oval race over a longer period would yield.
That depiction of the Superbird must be heavily nerfed, the thing was one of the first to hit 200 on the super speed way, way faster than shown here
You need to ghost the cars and start them all at the line. Then there’s no passing slowing them down or grid position advantages. Otherwise love the videos.
Gen 6 cars set nearly every single record at every large track. So I'm confused. They ran about 4 seconds a lap faster than Gen 7 at Charlotte.
This is a 2019 car with the high downforce, low hp package
@JUST SIMRACING interesting. Why use the early cars from other gens but the newest in gen 6. It'd be fun to see how blindly fast Gen 6 was
If this was on a super speedway and the gen 3 & gen 4 had restrictor plates off they would be the fastest but great video how did you make it?
All cars are AIs. Had to adjust their performance using real-life laptimes
Idk how accurate this is...Considering Bill Elliott broke and still holds (due to restrictions on the cars after his record) the record for the fastest speed of 212 MPH in a gen 3 car. I find it hard to believe that 4 generations of cars are faster than than the gen 3.
Pretty sure the Earnhardt model is a gen 3 still. Gen 3s lasted until like 1994, after which the gen 4 was introduced.
If this was beamng I would love to have these mods it it was beamng I like the dale one thought nice job
I'm new to the NASCAR world and I have some questions:
1. Why did they stop the 5th gen?
2. How is the 6th gen faster than a 7th gen on a road course when, in theory, it should be the other way around?
1: Since Gen 5 NASCAR has been looking to improve tye racing by slowing the cars down with mixed results
2: Surprising right? The Next Gen was slower than the Gen 6 at Watkins Glen where powers matters more than any other road course
Do you have the mod links for the Gen 3 and Gen 5 ones?
m.facebook.com/groups/940405266010495/posts/5007704205947227/
the 80s cars were fast but gen 7 looks crazy
I thought the third generation would be in the lead because I have some videos of people talking about this car is going 280 mi. per hours and I’m not going about that.
a video idea for you, make a world grand prix (that competition in cars 2) Only using the real champion cars like for example the f1 champion car, the RB 18, or the nascar champion, the Ford Mustang, and others.
Your wishes may come true this Saturday...
@@THEWINDTUNNEL Thank you very much, I hope everything works out
I was sure that Daytona was going to be above 180mph by the time lap 2 came around. I guess the version that got banned doesn't count?
The superbird was slightly slower then the Daytona which this is. It also relied on a long straightaway
The fact is, there's no gen 5 in 75th anniversary NASCAR video
where have you got the CoT mod?
facebook.com/groups/940405266010495/?locale=es_ES
Gen 6 is a weird one. If a 2013 gen 6 car was picked it'd be the fastest by a fair bit, but the 2021 gen 6 was much slower.
Should’ve done 10 laps at Daytona. I bet either Gen 2 or 3 wins after their top speed comes into effect.
What sim is this? I been wanting to run some of these old cars and iracing just won’t let me
Assetto Corsa
As cool as the Gen 2 was, I would love a turn in the Gen 1. Gen 3 is my favorite.
Would be amazing if you could do the same with IndyCars/Carts
Stay tuned🤫😏
@@THEWINDTUNNEL Can you put the links for all the mods you use in your video?
I like gen 1
Honest question. I know the dodge Daytona/Plymouth superbird were the first cars to hit 200mph on track. So how come they only did about 150 here?
Because this is an intermediate track unlike Daytona or Talladega (superspeedways). These tracks are all about aero and mechanical grip. The Gen 2 is heavier, has less power, is dragier, has less downforce and worse tyres than any newer car. This is why it is slower
