I had a friend who after years of friendship told me she is now non-binary.... I told her I still loved her and wanted to be friends with her, but I cannot in good conscience agree with the idea that she is no longer a woman. God made her perfectly, including her womanhood. She told me if I can't accept that she's non-binary then we can't be friends. So our friendship ended there. Unfortunately, even if you try to show love and still be friends, sometimes the person won't accept unless you confirm them entirely in the identity.

Biology isn't so simple. A person's biological makeup is unique. Intersex anomalies do occur. There are variations in chromosomes. Some sex characteristics can be altered. Adoptable names, pronouns, societal roles and gender expression's are constructed by humans. That's truth. There are those who remained trans in spite of pushback. Conversion therapy horror stories are out there. Furthermore, if you encounter people who aren't gonna accept you, ditch them. Surround yourself with superior people. Somebody should hire Tom Kenny to spoof this guy. Also, there've been people who couldn't go on without transitioning.

Jason is a Catholic and doesn’t endorse “conversion therapy,” because if you look at a person as a human being you know you can’t just tell them to feel a way that they don’t and make it all better easy peasy. But seeing a person as human also means having the respect for them, even amidst pain, to earnestly try to tell them the truth. The truth that often gets swept under the rug is that altering your body doesn’t fix mental and spiritual pain, at best it just puts a band aid over it.

Resistance to this framework of looking at the human person and identity isn't hateful. It's not about not letting people do what they want because of some puritanical prejudice towards the unknown. It's because there is nothing loving about encouraging someone to walk down a path of lifelong anguish. I have friends who experience gender dysphoria, and I love them. I've seen close up what it looks like for someone to live with gender dysphoria but refuse to let go of the truth. It's still not easy, but there's real peace there.

Men having a tendency to "take charge" is another gender stereotype. However, with a large body of evidence both in literature and in contemporary examples it is impossible to classify humans based on a gender binary. Meaning only men and only women. The reason being is that men often exhibit more feminine traits, and the same can be said of women. That is because gender fundamentally has to exist on a spectrum. Regardless of what many religious institutions may say, trans people are valid, and very real. Furthermore, Sex is purely biological. Sex is based on the apparent physical characteristics that may define someone as either male or female. That is strictly based on genitalia. But, as we know and have many proven examples, just because you have certain genitalia doesn't mean you need identify with that gender. If you're someone who has male parts but identifies more with a feminine identity, there's nothing wrong with that. Therefore sex does not = Gender. I hope that clears things up, if it doesn't that's okay too.

Men have the greater likelihood to take charge because men are naturally stronger, and femininity comes from being the ones who give birth thus they are naturally more susceptible to being more nurturing and from that not as likely to be as battle ready. Christ commanded us to love his father's children as he loves us. He doesn't say "love them but also constantly tell them the way god made them is a sin." There was no "unless". There was no, "but." There was one command: LOVE. No additions, no conditions, no judgement, no trying to change them or "save" them. Their soul is between them and god as is their conduct, expression, gender identity, etc. We are commanded to support, protect, love and accept each other. People change their bodies all the time to match what they feel inside. We dye our hair, get glasses because our eyes are misshappen, braces for our teeth. Boob jobs, hair plugs, butthole bleaching, boner pills, makeup. All to change our appearance because we don't look outwardly like how we feel inside. Christianity is so repressed that you over concern yourselves with penis and vagina that aren't even yours.

Biology isn't so simple. A person's biological makeup is unique. Intersex anomalies do occur. There are variations in chromosomes. Some sex characteristics can be altered. Adoptable names, pronouns, societal roles and gender expression's are constructed by humans. That's truth. There are those who remained trans in spite of pushback. Conversion therapy horror stories are out there. Furthermore, if you encounter people who aren't gonna accept you, ditch them. Surround yourself with superior people. Somebody should hire Tom Kenny to spoof this guy. Also, there've been people who couldn't go on without transitioning.

However, I think this kind of argument often comes with the misleading implication that it is fairly common that people be born with an unknown sex, or that this disproves a sexual binary, when in reality in virtually all of these cases a single sex is still identifiable, even if the ordinary markers of that sex are misleading. If you’re at all interested in whether a person can hold these views in the face of this objection, I’d encourage you to look into Jason Evert’s appearance a few months ago on the podcast Pints with Aquinas where he speaks at length about intersex conditions. Jason is a Catholic and doesn’t endorse “conversion therapy,” because if you look at a person as a human being you know you can’t just tell them to feel a way that they don’t and make it all better easy peasy. But seeing a person as human also means having the respect for them, even amidst pain, to earnestly try to tell them the truth. The truth that often gets swept under the rug is that altering your body doesn’t fix mental and spiritual pain, at best it just puts a band aid over it.
Sex and biology isn't even relevant in this regard. Gender identity is - which is a quite distinct concept wholly apart from biology.

What Jason said in this video is that he wants to listen and walk with people through their pain despite not agreeing with them. He said that everyone deserves to hear the truth. What would you say love is? Is it tolerance of others? Wasn’t what he said about accompanying people and not trying to attack their ideas a pretty good summary of tolerance? Is love just telling people what they want to hear then? I think you’d have to hate someone a whole lot if you thought someone was being told a deadly lie and didn’t care.

No body is exactly like any other person's body, but the genetic code that informs the growth of each person's body can be categorized as male or female. Male bodies and female bodies don't work the exact same way, and neither is better or has greater dignity than the other.
A person's body is an essential part of them, and their personhood can't be separated from their body (this is not to say that there is nothing beyond a person's body that makes them who they are). There's no such thing as a human person without a body. Because a person's body is an essential part of what makes them a person, there can't be any such thing as being "born in the wrong body." This is important because setting the mind at war with the body can be very destructive to a person.
Some people experience gender dysphoria, which could be described as a conflict of one's self image and the actual sex of their bodies. It seems evident that gender is not simply a nebulous, constructed concept divorced from physical realities by the very treatment prescribed by many professionals. If "gender" and "sex" are uncorrelated, then there isn't any reason to attempt to surgically change one's body to resemble that of the opposite sex to satisfy a problem of gender identity.
If we are to look at the results of hormone replacement and cosmetic surgery, there are many stories about the harm that this can cause to people. As time passes, we can see that the number of people that feel like they have peace with their identity after these treatments drops off as time passes. There are many horror stories of the terrible after effects of "successful" treatments in communities like r/detrans, and while some may be faked, it doesn't seem smart to disregard all of them, especially in a culture that says things like that all sexual assault allegations should be taken seriously. The number of possible lifelong health complications are not something any doctor should be endorsing, especially not for children who you wouldn't even let get a tattoo.
Resistance to this framework of looking at the human person and identity isn't hateful. It's not about not letting people do what they want because of some puritanical prejudice towards the unknown. It's because there is nothing loving about encouraging someone to walk down a path of lifelong anguish. I have friends who experience gender dysphoria, and I love them. I've seen close up what it looks like for someone to live with gender dysphoria but refuse to let go of the truth. It's still not easy, but there's real peace there.

@@harry3461Sure. So gender is a society's construct of what is either masculine or feminine or whatever may fall in between. Often times feminine traits like child rearing are ascribed to women. Men having a tendency to "take charge" is another gender stereotype. However, with a large body of evidence both in literature and in contemporary examples it is impossible to classify humans based on a gender binary. Meaning only men and only women. The reason being is that men often exhibit more feminine traits, and the same can be said of women. That is because gender fundamentally has to exist on a spectrum. Regardless of what many religious institutions may say, trans people are valid, and very real. Furthermore, Sex is purely biological. Sex is based on the apparent physical characteristics that may define someone as either male or female. That is strictly based on genitalia. But, as we know and have many proven examples, just because you have certain genitalia doesn't mean you need identify with that gender. If you're someone who has male parts but identifies more with a feminine identity, there's nothing wrong with that. Therefore sex does not = Gender.

Men have the greater likelihood to take charge because men are naturally stronger, and femininity comes from being the ones who give birth thus they are naturally more susceptible to being more nurturing and from that not as likely to be as battle ready. From there you claim there’s evidence in scripture and literature but if that were true then this wouldn’t be a debate at all. And if there is then I’d like a list. Furthermore what biological evidence is there of a spectrum? There seems to be more proof of the spectrum being a construct than the more biologically sound idea held for all of human history of there just being 2 sexes and that word being synonymous with the word gender within this context. So that begs the question: why make the distinction between the 2 words at all when it’s never been that way? It’s a dumb distinction that doesn’t need to exist. Another way to categorize is this: do they have a penis or a vagina. Pretty straightforward. But on a final note I’m not saying to hate trans ppl, I love them like every other sibling in Christ but I do think it completely arises from mental illness and maybe even trauma (or ppl just tryna latch onto a trend you’d know if u grew up where I did, happens all the time.)

Sex doesn't always correspond with the gender someone identifies as.
