  • @markhaynes9923

    I think the whole reason it didn't sell is the price of it. For the same kind of money you can get a mk5 or even a mk6 GTI. Both are much better cars. Or you can buy a non anniversary mk4 GTI 150 or 180 for a lot less.
    Someone has really got to want one of these to pay £5.5k for it and if you are hell bent on having one, you'll want the best example.
    Even if it's the cheapest one out there, if the best you are offered in a year is £3.5k, then that's it's market worth.
    On the positive, at least we all have the chance to win it now.

    • @Spike0000
      @Spike0000 Před 2 lety +4

      True...With the MK4 Anniversary, you have to be an enthusiast to really want to spend 5K give or take on one....

  • @TheVerseCity
    @TheVerseCity Před 2 lety +39

    It's just a little rough around the edges, for an Anni they will sell stock and tidy, not rough and modded. They're collectable not daily drivers. I think the price was a little steep personally, Theres cleaner, cheaper and lower mileage ones online.

    Back in 2006 I wanted to get a mk4 golf and it was between a black 25th anni 1.8t or a V6 4 motion and I went for the V6, and 16 years later I still have the V6 4motion. Since then I have had a lots of other new VWs, Polos, Golfs, Tiguans and 3 transporters and the mk4 is still my favourite car.

    Very rare cars. Neat tidy example. Sorn it and tuck it away in a dry place where you can run a dehumidifier and a battery charger. Keep it coverd up so light and dust can destroy the paint. These cars will be collectable soon. They're starting to talk about them in classic car magazines. Not so much a regular mk4 gti but the 25 anniversary

    Looking forward to this one Calv remember ogling one of these at VW High Wycombe when my wife was ordering a new mk4 GTI, those seats are notorious for the bolsters failing, the rubberised trim coating that’s on nearly everything other than the top of the dash is another thing that lets them down inside, you’ll get a headunit of ebay for a few quid 😉

    Clean the seats properly would go a long way towards a desirable modern classic, the grime in the drivers seat makes it look uncared for,plus the problem with hpi is if a car was a company car from new,if it had an accident it was not put on hpi database,this may be different now but that was the case in the early 2000s

  • @Dwhitehead60

    Shadow chrome powdercoat the wheels with some fresh centre caps. Maybe try find a cheap us rub strip for the front and an auto light kit? Get some us style mods and modernise it a bit. Passat w8 interior light also a good mod. These are so customisable, such a great collectors car. Specially being a 1.8t

Theres one on ebay right now for 4 bags and its only got 10k milage diffrance. • @Spike0000
    @Spike0000 Před 2 lety +1

    About 7yrs back...I finally bought a black anniversary...for £3,900...[bargain I'd say at the time]...Anyway, I'd wanted one for about 13yrs prior to this. It was clean inside and out...however...it had a "fan-fault/constantly on" problem when the ignition was off...that then used to drain the battery, then I'd have to jump it with a spare battery. Also...the clocks would go out at night, so you weren't lit-up. Garages would give their theories as to what it was...[and get more money]. While this was going on, the clutch-pedal then snapped inside, and I had to take it out...get a friend to weld the weaker composite-metal back on [and made it stronger so it'd never do it again.] Anyway...I had personal problems going on at the time on top of all that, so I ended up swapping it with a mate for a lesser car...[an Astra SRI/CDTI/Xpack...Mapped to around 180bhp] plus a years free insurance on his traders. He fixed the fan-fault with a new switch...but never worked-out what the clocks drain was. Garages told me it could be the wiring-loom...[and potentially an expensive job.] He kept the Anni for another 4yrs, then sold it on....They only ever made 1800 of these in the UK...900 in petrol/900 in diesel on a 1.9 TDI. They were only made in 3 colours: Pearl Black/Reflex Silver/Tornado Red...After the MK4 R32's...these were the ones to buy...followed by the MK4 V6 4Motion's...[preferably with the heated leather Recaro's]....The one I had, had a Powerflex Exhaust/Carbon Induction Kit/Huge K&N Filter/Dump Valve...Mapped To Roughly 210bhp....

    Just watch your video yesterday The GTi silver jubilee. Volkswagen decided they weren’t going to do a GTi anymore after a lot of demand from the public for one they rebadged Lots of 2.L golfs (Passat engine)with the GTi badge 105 brake horsepower quite a lot of people very disappointed with the new GTI so they decided to use The Audi TT 1800 turbo engine 150.BHP they put in the golf GTi and that was the most desirable one. The one I had always quite fancied the silver jubilee one at the time out of my league probably is now really enjoy your videos keep up the good work

    I have the same model in the standard Estate version, silver also. It takes me very nicely from A to B, 1.4 engine gives low bracket motor tax, low insurance too. Paid 2000 Euros for it five years ago in County Cork, Ireland. There are the usual Golf problems, mainly wet floors in the back in rainy weather, door lock and electric windows issues etc. (for God's sake, VW, you've had decades to fix this!) but nothing else so far. I'd be greedy if I wanted more, honest.

    The Mk4 golf is nice and the GTi variants are the nicest although the V5 looks nice, but you can buy Mk6 golf GTi models from £3500 - £5500 with 100k plus miles. Not to say how good a example they are, but the Mk6 have become more cheaper to buy they make the Mk4 irrelevant. But then the market is all over the place, so some stuff aren't worth what they are up for and some are.
