    It always a great idea to put some ATF, PB blaster, or marvel mystery oil down the cylinders before you crank it, to help lubricate the piston rings.

    I'd try and find a replacement '69 or '70 frame for it and restore it. How many of these will you ever see again? Way cooler than any of the 9 million 69 "Yenko" Camaros out there that never really existed we see nowadays!

    I love these 69 Chevy full size. The front "loop" bumper is great. They had a good style language in 1969 with the style of the full size and with the Camaro, both with the shrouded headlights and grille. The 69 full size rear bumper completes the rear body line rather than standing out. Just great.

      Yes! The clean lines of the lower-level Chevy's definitely has an appeal. I would restore one of these like it left the factory, black-walls, dog-dish hubcaps and all, but drop a monster motor in it and upgrade all the mechanical components. It surprises many people that the Bel Air and Biscayne's were around into the early '70's. Calling them rare is probably true.

    She was running and you kept killing it with too much starting fluid LOL. I wouldn't bother pumping the throttle either. There is no fuel in the bowl and you'll more than likely rip the accelerator pump with it being dry like that. Not trying to be a dick. Just a heads up. I would totally swap a good frame under that thing. Love those odd ball stripper models like that.

    Nice find! I had the opportunity a few years ago to trade my 1980 Toyota Corolla for a 1969 Impala Custom Coupe (different roofline) but didn't pull the trigger unfortunately. The '69 is my favorite of the '65-'70 B-body Chevys for the shape of the wheel arches and the bumper placement on front. 👍

  • @stephenandloriyoung5716

    I noticed the two pull controls for the Astro Ventilation. One was for the kick panel vent, the other for the dash panel vent, so you could have fresh air through either or both. This was only used for one or two years, then reduced to one control, for the upper vents. This engine was eager to start, which is always nice. A geezer from the carburetor era has a couple of tips for you kids who grew up with fuel injection, to make your lives better when you go to start a carb equipped engine. First, fill the fuel bowl of the carb, through the bowl vent at the top if the carb has one, or through the fuel inlet. Second, close the choke, the plate at the top of the carb. A couple of pumps of the accelerator pedal, crank the starter, and hey presto, if everything else is good.

  • @superhet7281
    @superhet7281 Před 3 lety +3

    I’m amazed that people were *still* buying the big-body Chevies with six-cylinder and three-on-the-tree as late as 1969.
    I guess it’s a midwestern farmer/rancher thing. Somebody might have been on a tight budget. Add a V8 and power glide and power steering and it’s a much more convenient car to drive.
    The two door sedan is cool. It’s a shame the frame is bad. Somebody should drop a big V8 in the thing and make a sleeper out of it.

      @@IowaClassicCars So this started a quest of sorts, but - early 1972 production could get a 250 ci 6cyl in Impala -HOWEVER- supposedly after 1500 cars, GM relegated 6cyl to Biscayne & Bel Air only. ...SO, maybe something to watch for in future. Myself I've only heard of these, but never hands on one.

    I bought a 69 impala for 225$ in 1985 witch uses the exact same body and color in 2dr with a 327 and a two speed powerglide. Top and interior was perfect but rusted out trunk and rocker panels and lots of blow by smoke when floored. So if you add the 327 and powerglide, new frame and fully restored you can make an impala clone worthy of auction with that

    Howdy Ryan. I have watched and enjoyed several of your videos. I love reviving anything old, especially if someone else has considered it junk. You folks have gold mines out there with old cars like this. They are not quite as plentiful here on the east coast, and if you do find one, you better have a pocket full of cash. One thing I noticed though in a couple of the vids as with this on like at the 9:50 to 11:00 min mark. You get too happy with the starting fluid to the point you are flooding it causing it to knock off. Don't add more until its about to cut off. This will help avoid flooding it. Hey, I have been there too and learned the hard way. I don't know what's harder starting an engine not getting enough case or starting an engine that is severely flooded.
    Keep up the good work. Also put you a clear filter in-line on your make shift fuel line or just before going in the carb. That way and you see fuel movement.

      Yes, the Oregon State Police used 2 doors here until 1968 when they ordered 4 door 1968 Plymouth Furys.

      Police cars would have V-8. Not straight 6

      My thought was probably a small or one man agency that the officer had to purchase his own vehicle or the city was too cheap to buy a factory police vehicle.

    I bet ya that fuel pump was working and you were just flooding it. It shouldn't have ran as long as it did with that spray you were using.

    • @IowaClassicCars
      @IowaClassicCars  Před 3 lety

      If it was working shouldnt it have stayed running once i stopped spraying ether? I guess thats what my thought was

    • @racecar2933
      @racecar2933 Před 3 lety

      I'm not sure on exactly what was/wasn't working. In the video, it looked like you were smothering the engine by spraying ether in the carb. You could be right about the fuel pump no longer working. I could be right about you flooding it with ether, I don't know?. But what I DO know is, I wasn't there to mess with the Ole girl with ya. And since I wasn't there, I'll say that I'm wrong and you're right. 😁 ...you better be showing us all here that '59 your trading the '69 for.
