The West Highland White Terrier also known as westie shares a history with that of the Dandie Dinmont, Skye, Scottish, and Cairn Terriers; they are all considered branches of the same breed.
In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the Westies that you might not know.
A Quick Overview:
[Group: Terrier Group]
Weight: 15-20 pounds
Height: 11 inches (male). 10 inches, female
Life Expectancy: 13-15 years
The West Highland White Terrier is a bold, confident, fun-loving, intelligent dog who can find joy in the simplest pleasures of life, such as squeaky toys, a belly rub, and food. His happy disposition and love of life make him a favorite for many, in spite of his mischievousness. He doesn't lack any self-esteem, but he's not so overbearing in his confidence that his self-assurance becomes a negative trait. He is friendly and gets along with everyone, and he enjoys being part of his family.
Westies are generally healthy, but like all breeds, they're prone to certain health conditions. Not all Westies will get any or all of these diseases, but it's important to be aware of them if you're considering this breed.
Because the Westie has a hard coat, bathing too often can be more harmful than helpful. But, no worries! To support West Highlandâs rough coat and delicate skin, an adult dry dog food formulated with specific amino acids, fatty acids and flax seeds - Royal Canin breed health nutrition could be a great kibble for your westie.

Kurt Sontag I had my first westie for 16 years love him heâs such a good boy
I had our first Westie for almost 19 years. Malcolm started us on Westies...and we're now on our 3rd one. Best breed.

True.
That's true.
True
So true my westie girl is going to be 8 years
My westie is so friendly, if my house got robbed, she would probably welcome the robbers and even see em out. Gotta love westies LOL
Same
When somebody broke into my house, my grandma (who was inside the house watching everything) told my family our westie was licking the robberâs feet :/ one of the guys kicked her, the other one petted her
THATâs how friendly westieâs are
Once I was about to get robbed but my then westie started mauling the shit out of the robber
you got lucky with your westie mine bit me leaving a bunch of permanent scars and she had to go back to the shelter i dont know why im watching these vids i forgive her but i cant get her back.
Mine too hahaha
My beloved Westie, Nigel, was with me since he was six weeks old. Sadly, he passed away on his 14th birthday last April. My beautiful boy was the absolute love of my life...a day didn't go by that he didn't make my heart melt or make me laugh...miss my little guy every day.
đ†to Nigel.
Our little Westie Rocco is just 1yr old. Had him since he was 8wks old. I can't imagine him not being here. Wish they could live forever with us. They bring you so much love and joy. God bless you đ
Sorry for your loss. I also lost my westie 3 months ago. She was 11 and a half. Not a day goes by that I don't miss her
I lost mine 3 weeks ago đđ
Sorry about Nigel Liza Roberts. I am sure that he was spectacular.
Whoâs cutting the damn onions
I'm a retired/100% disabled Marine and my two Westies (boys) give me more than I could ever give them. My oldest Westie boy (13+ yo) needs to be very near me and sometimes sits next to me on the couch, a lot of the time on the floor at my feet. The younger one comes in every now and then to have his belly scratched and is always nearby. Young one barks at bicycles and certain dogs - oh yeah, tries to bite the pool bubbles when the pool pump turns on every morning. I've lost 3 other Westie boys - 2 were rescues and great dogs! I love my boys and wouldn't trade them for anything. Big part of my life.
jer rodg / I have a Westie that I trained to use as my service dog. â€ïžâšđđŒ He is my lifesaver đ¶
Love to you and your Westies đ†from me and my Westie Rocco
Oorah,Marine! I bet your Westies are your best teammates!đ¶
jer rodg love to you and your westies Iâm sure theyâre beautiful little dogs
@@dori4490 yeah
My Westie is my best friend and the greatest dog I've ever had she's entertaining loyal loving independent obedient but mischievous. She's 10 years old still behaves like a two-year-old no health problems. She likes to be near her mommy but still likes her independence she keeps me entertained constantly. The most entertaining small dog you could ever have. Skylar I love you
My westie sometimes does not finish her food and when dad comes home, he says âwho didnt finish the bowl?â And she gets a bit ashamed. One day, we came back to our house and before dad stepped in, she quickly started eating the food. Me and my brother watched her and told dad đ
They are so smart!
I have two Westies 13 and 14. They have different personalities but so loving, smart, loyal and care for me when I am sad or not feeling well. I have been so blessed with them. One loves to cuddled and the other is zany, funny and a Hamm. They are the love of my life. One was diagnosed with bladder cancer which was caught early 8 months ago and the other just got diagnosed 3 weeks ago. More progressed. She only had symptoms of frequent urination. They have always had routine checkups and dental cleaning.
I was told they are known to get bladder cancer and Cushions disease.
Prayers for my Lilli and Chloe. đđŒâïžđŸ
We are checking on perhaps comfort treatment. I am devastated.
I had 2 westies Jack & Willie Jack passed away at only 3 years old. Willie I got after Jack died. Willie lived with me till the end. He was 15 years old. My heart is still broken. The best sweetest dog I EVER HAD!!
I used to have a Westie since I was born. He was my everything. We grew up together, and he'd always protect me. Sadly he passed away three days after my 16th birthday. He wasn't a dog. He was my brother. Now I own a Border Collie and let me tell you; there is indeed a vast difference between owning a Westie or a Border. Even though I love both of them, my Westie was the best thing to have happened to me. Thank you for everything, Maxi!
My little 3 months Westie is such a sassy, stubborn, talkative, feisty little girl. But she is so adorable. I love her.
My 12 year old Westie, Payton, is the love of my life. Sixteen months ago he was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease. Thankfully, he made it through the early difficulties and with the proper medications, diet, exercise and lots of love, he continues to be my special angel puppy. Our vet calls him the âmiracle dogâ.
Buddy, you and I were best friends. I know I did not own you. For 17 years you were family, we all loved you and you loved us. If there is an afterlife I hope you are in mine.
thanks but i was an embryo when u "met me" which i do not remember
đđ„ș u sweet tho love u đ„șđ
I had a little westie for 16 years and she was the best dog EVER!! I didnât find her difficult to train at all.! I miss my little sweet girl McKenzieđđ
So true about being stubborn!! Mine is a senior and weâre not sure if sheâs losing her hearing or if sheâs just being stubborn and ignoring what weâre saying -you know what Iâm talking about Westie parents!
My westie barks at almost everything and won't care to stop even if I force him to. Training him is a pretty darn challenge, but I still love him. :)
Marce Garcia Westies are super playful
Thatâs what I love about them
My westie was easy to train. The only dog better in her obedience class was a border collie. The problem with the westie is they know the are spectacular dogs. Also, they are the boss, so adjust accordingly.
Same as mine the bitch is a dream but the boy barks at everything if I'm not with him lol
Linda...exactly...always pack leaders...my brother has a pit and a Rottweiler...my Westin is in charge when they come over
They are absolutely perfect dogs. Just ask them!
I had a westie for 17 years. I loved him and miss him so much. Sleep tight Lucky - my wee Bonnie laddie... Love from Scotland x
@Maria Cecelia I got Lucky for my Christmas when I was 7. I grew up with him and he got me through alot of family issues ( mum died of heroin overdose, dad was an addict who i lived with and I had an abusive grandmother who I also stayed with). He doesn't know how much he kept me going. I was the only person he would let hold him and touch him. My dad use to walk him at night sometimes and he would let him put his lead on but the minute he brought him back he wouldn't let him take it off and actually he had bitten him once or twice. One time he bit through his trainer shoe and just missed his toe lol. After it he would walk through to get me. He deffinetly ruled the house as he was spoiled by me and didn't have any training as I was too young and short on money to know what dog training was. He wouldn't let anyone into my room or near me. I was 24 when i had to put him to sleep. We went through it all together †x
I had a black lab/ boxer mix and actually picked out my two Westie sisters for her. They adopted her (Daphne) as a their mom. Daphne was terrified of thunderstorms and they helped her relax a bit. We were gone one afternoon while the girls were out in the backyard and a thunderstorm rolled through. Daphne a very tall athletic girl cleared our 5â cinder block fence. Neighbors saw her running down the road but when called she didnât come back. We never found her. I prayed that she was taken in by a loving family. I didnât dare consider the worst. Shelter never got calls on her. The two Westie sisters Lacey & Sunny mourned her absence almost as long as I did but have finally returned to their silly playful selves.
Rescued my westie 12 years ago.She was easy to train and has been a loyal and loving pet. Westies are the besties. Loyal, intelligent, loving and fun. Blessed that she found us.
Linda Kane Where did you rescue your dog from? I would love to adopt a Westie.
Bof bof pas d accord !!!
I love my Westies. Have 6 in the house. Ages are 5 months to 6 years old. Just as others have said, every day has a smile at the end. Can be a difficult day sometimes but they always seem to do something to make a funny. Love just watching them play in the yard and I love joining them. Everyday is a joy. I have taught them young to keep their bark down and they have done well with that. Proud of them.
This is the sweetest dog I've ever had. I'm disabled and he always knows what is bothering me, so he will put his head where I'm in pain.
As far as being vocal, I received a note from one neighbor about keeping him quiet, but I have another who calls him cry baby and laughs. His newest thing is singing in the morning, he sounds like a New Guinea singing dog lol, no idea where he got that from. But he has definetly earned his keep by keeping the house vermin free (which was the reason we got him) He wasn't that hard to train, except for his vocals lol.
Iâve had my Westie for 6 years now and she is my best friend and idk what to do without her. I love her!!!
I've had 3 Westies and each one had there own personality. They were loyal and loving and they were my children. I miss them dearly. It hurts so bad when you lose your hairy four legged children. Rest in peace Heidi, Mitzi and Lorraine (Lorrie). I just lost Lorrie last Wednesday morning to cancer. I miss her so much. When it does not hurt so much and I can afford it I will get another Westie.
They have westie rescue groups
I had a Westie but he passed away over a year ago, I was heart broken ! He was an amazing little dog, I still havenât get over him yet, when I am one of these day I will still get another Westie for sure
My Westie is so bossy, he is so funny. We love him so much , he is 13 years old and we have really enjoyed him all those years.
love it
King live your bossy westie
My westie, Moki, died over a week ago. He was only 12, but he was very sick đ growing up with him was so much fun and Iâm positive that there will never be another dog like him. I miss him so much đ€
My Westie Tyler (RIP 2/20) gave our family so much joy and kept us so alive for 16 years.
I recommend Westie breed to everyone who is looking for a dog. This breed will not disappoint. I can not believe how smart he was as it was actually the most wonderful feeling when he joined in to help a situation.
I agree that once you have a Westie you will always have a Westie.
Long Live the Westies.
LAJ Westie
W -wagging Tail
E - energy
S. - seriously cute
T. - tough
I - impossible
E - everyone needs one
My 8 year old westie passed last week, seeing this video made me happy . My Oso was so energetic, full of love, and was territorial. He knew he was the boss and I gave into it! Itâs hard to say no to that face
I miss him so much â€ïž
Every word is true. Smart, stubborn yet very friendly. Love my Westie
I love my Westie . Langston has been a major blessing in my life .
I'm getting a westie in two days so excited to see my little puppy
Have fun, they are the best
Congratulationsâ„ïžđ„° Life will never be as good as can be with a Westieđ€Șđ
Got two male Westies. Each are so different. One is like everything described in this video. The other is a lot more grumpy/bossy and barks at anything he sees. Cant watch anything on the TV with a dog in it LOL. They both love each other though. Both are very loyal.
I have a female westie named hope, she is four. She makes my life 110x better. We even have the same birthday!
Our Westie is a great dog, but one thing not mentioned is their allergies which according to several vets, they are very prone to many skin issues. I agree as my dog has been on meds for the majority of her life. If looking, most of the time any meds for allergy issues have a Westie on the cover.
Is your westie hand stripped?
My little Westie hit about every mark in this list. She is a lovable monster, who loves to watch TV.
My Westie loved the TV.
Thor loves to watch tv with us too. He sits on either my footrest or my husbands or on my knee. He doesnât like my husbands yelling, or anything sad on the tv.He has a wonderful loving little bloke.
My Westie is my best friend, she sleeps with me every night, sheâs the most loving dog and I canât wait To get off school and work every day just to see her, sheâs helped me get through some hard times and It hurts knowing I wonât have her one day.
Ikr. I lost my westie . And looking back at the days i need him here right now more than anything
god bless
Kayson DeLaGarza I just lost my westie five weeks ago. He was almost 16 years old. I plan on getting a westie puppy in August of this year. They are the sweetest dogs. I miss my buddy so much.
Kayson DeLaGarza took the words right out of my mouth đđ
This was nice to hear because Iâm debating whether or not I should get one
I have had West Highland White Terriers for the last 30 yrs of my life, and I have to say they are the best. As a kid I had a Chicuauae, a shetland sheep dog, but the love for my Westies is never ending. They are so full of life regardless of their age my 14 yr old is as active as my 2 yr old, so loving and such clowns. They have been with me through some very dark times in life and the best of times are with them. i would never have another kind of dog wanted one since I was 6 yrs old and now I know why. They are the loves of my life and they know it.
I have an adorable, cheeky Westie and sheâs like a ball of light! She makes my day, after a stressful day these types of dogs can just put a smile on your face!đđ„°đ€
My Westie is a 14-year-old male. He's a great dog. He is not a barker due to intense socializing. He can still act like a puppy, the cats in our neighborhood avoid being chased by him. He is the fifth dog I have owned in my lifetime and the best of them all.
My westie, Lucy, is 11 this year but she still acts like a puppy. She has no problem killing squirrels, rabbits or any other rodent. She loves squeaky toys and will squeeze the toy to see how many squeakies it has before ripping an opening at each one to get the squeakers out. I know when she has one because she gets a look on her face and tries to head to another room. lol She was very easy to train. She will do anything for a treat. We set a bell up at the patio door and trained her to ring the bell when she needed out to do her business. It didn't long before she realized that she could ring the bell to just go out and play. When she was ringing it in the middle of the night, we took the bell away... lol Her temperament matches some of the points in your video. She is my little angel. We just love her.
I've Had WESTIES FOREVER!!! THE BEST DOG EVER!!!! ALWAYS a WESTIE!!!!
I had a westie named Max and he was the most good natured dog ever. He died a few years ago and I constantly think about him. He was so loyal to me and loved everyone and always greeted other dogs wagging his tail. He never snapped and I could always trust him even with my young grandchildren. Lovely dogs.
My furry white brother died 10 years ago! I still miss him to this day! They are the best dog ever! If I ever take another dog (which is really hard since I never got over him) I will take a westie!
they are not the best dog
@@luuk8627 if you say so buddy. My dog was the best little friend i could have ever asked for growing up...
@@luuk8627 yes they are, shut it.
no
@@SkipperXIII I agree! I've had two in the past 30 years, and getting my third boy in a coupe weeks. The best!
Greatest dogs ever. Had a buddy for 14 years and now I miss him immensely.
Hallo unsere Westi ist schon 13 Jahre aber noch total fit. Ich liebe diese Rasse. Ein kleiner Hund der denkt er ist gross. Wundervoll
I have (3) Westies they all have their own characteristics - Toraggs is a word I use regularly when I speak of them. "They know every word you say but do not listen to every word yo say" LoL -. They may be white in colour but they love being dirty. The dirtier the better - that what makes them so lovable - I wouldn't be without them - Love them to bits.
Thatâs the truth my two girls are the biggest tomboys. They take turns jumping in the pool then jumping out and rubbing their faces and bodies in the grass. They can be a handful, but I wouldnât have it any other way.
I have a westie and i agree, they are the best little dogs ever! Although my dog does not completely match these charicteristics. Apart from being bigger than others of his breed, he is never "quick to bark" and he doesnt act like a lapdog, he acts like a bigger breed. Other owners say they have trouble with their westies running away, but even when we keep our door open, he will just sit there and not even try to run. I think that all dogs have different charicteristics and if you are planning to get a westie, keep in mind that they are all unique and have different traits. But it is definatly worth getting one of these little guys!
I didn't own a dog for nearly 25+ years. Then I gave my wife, who always wanted a Westie, the go ahead to get her dog (s), since our children are now adults. We are in absolute love with our two 16mo old Westie brothers Huck & Finn!! (and I'm no mushy push-over) They can be defiant at times, but still the best decision we've made in a long time!
Love the names đ
This is exactly how my Westie was like! I agree with this list! It takes me back to these memories đ„ș
I had my Westie named Westley for one month shy of 18 years! When I was young I wanted to be a screenplay writer and made many movie scripts with him as the main character, then when I was in a high school TV Production class I filmed a mini-movie parody of Forrest Gump with Westley as the star! At the beginning of the movie, instead of the iconic feather coming down, I put a dog biscuit on a string flying through the air and it landed on the park bench with Westley where he told his story about his life! đčđ¶â€ïž
I already have a westie , I canât imagine my life without her.
Lost my wee Missy last Thursday. Miss her so much.xx
Best dogs ever! We recently lost our love of 16 years! He was the smartest dog - learned quickly and easily. One thing in the video I would disagree with is - they are not lap dogs. So independent love being in the room with the family but don't want to be snuggled unless it is on their terms! If you want a sweet loving smart dog then you will find tons of love from a westie!
Love the Westie that I am taking care of while her masters are gone on a trip. Known her all her life. She is having fun with me. I take care twice a day for walks. Her owners never do. Sad. She is 14 but looks very young. Daisy is the sweetest dog that I ever met. Going to miss her. Thinking about getting one of my own.
I don't own my Westie, she hired me to keep her. Once in awhile she will even sit on my lap when she allows me to pet her. Love Lucy to pieces!
My best old buddy passed away at age 15. Best friend ever. He can talk too! One of a kind.
My westie is getting old now he's 14 but he still loves life and when he can he'll still run around like a puppy in the garden.. Great memories with my best friend
I have an ADORABLE Westie Highland terrier! She is my WORLD and I couldn't imagine life without her.
Love Love Love them, and they are spoiled - we have two Westie"s a male/female now, first male Westie past about 2 years ago after 17 years, they always bring me joy
I walk four dogs and the westie - tucker- is my absolute favorite! He has a mind of his own and takes ME on a walk i just love him.
I have had 5 Westies and other breeds but the Westie is by far the best!!! They are so smart and so much fun to be around, BUT! They are stubborn and MUST have consistent training!!! The one I have now I think is the smartest dog we have 3ver had!? He knows exactly what we say to him and does what we ask him to do !! Unless of course he has made up his mind he is going to be contrary!! He likes to steal socks, dish towels and other things but we love him. Sooooo much!!!
My Westie, Nina, had a loud bark. And I mean, loud! It was startling. She was also stubborn and hard to control at times. Wanted to eat everything she could, edible or not. But SUPER friendly and sociable. Went up to nearly everyone we came across and greeted them like they were best friends. Also, super loyal and just wanted to be near us. I miss her dearly.
They are very naughty dogs, crazy is more like it. My westie's picture on the left. Very loving I must add.
My beautiful Westie, Max, died in 2008 and I still miss him! He had the best temperament, always happy to greet visitors whom he was sure were there just to see him. The following year we found another dog, not a Westie, I was afraid I'd always compare it to Max, and the cost to get one of comparable breeding was very expensive during the recession. We got a Malti-poo, Wilson, who, amazingly, has always displayed the very same characteristics as Max! In my heart I believe he has the soul of Max!
I had a westie at 2 years old and lived for 16 almost 17 years. When you had a dog since a baby and especially since he's the same age as my brother, I never really considered him a pet and more like a 3rd brother. He was an amazing dog. He was never aggressive, extremely intelligent, loyal, and fun. I still miss him.
My westie is 9 weeks old just got him luv him with all my heart
You'll have a challenge trying to train him, but just look at him as a child. Love concurs all. People told me Westies' can't be trained; phooey. Marty was the easiest ever to train. Just be consistent.
My bestie is a Westie. They are so friendly and loving. They demand love with their charming personality. He loves to play with our 2 sons. He enjoys sitting in our lap. He is a spunky little guy. He is protective. He has been good with our other animals, he loves to play.
I have 4 Westies, the parents and their two daughters. They are all fixed now. Love them.
My beautiful little girl Millie passed away too early. An amazing Westie who stole my heart.
Itâs true that my Westie wants to be friends with just about anyone. I love my little fur ball of energy.
my wife's female westie has actually learned to shake her head when she's decided not to obey. which is most of the time. my male is superficially more compliant but is very cunning when we're not looking. which is all part of their massive charm. we're on our second pair and i could never consider another breed. if it ain't a westie it's just a dog ;o)
â€â€â€â€â€â€â€
Our male westie "Jack" can be hilarious when he gets excited about something he has seen and wants to tell you about it.
Everything in the video is pretty accurate. I've had 2 Westies. The first one was really easy to train (potty trained within a month/never chewed anything except his toys/loved all people/ never bit anyone). We took him to PetSmart training classes from 4mos to 1.5 yrs old. Current Westie is female, 5 months old, goes to training class once a week, bites all our body parts and furniture, is still making potty mistakes indoors, is super hyper - basically very opposite the first dog tho both had all the Westie traits. Current puppy is really difficult but VERY smart. I think she'll take a lot more work in the first year but end up a wonderful dog.
I have had my westie for 8 years. He is the perfect dog. He loves his daily walks and loves to lay on me while we watch tv. I plan to get another westie in the near future.
Our current Westie, Molly, is our fifth Westie. We have had one since 1970. Muffy joined our family when I was stationed in England.
Since then we have had Misty, Maddie, Katie and now Molly. Each had their own personality but all were true Westies, spunky and lovable. Wouldn't have any other breed !!
Have you ever experienced aggressive behavior?? My Molly has never been abused but is a bad bitter!! I love her so but must be careful.
Can't go passed a Westie. Literally and/or acquiring one. They are simply adorable. My Alistair lived to 15 and was just fabulous company. Miss him still.
I had my Westie Boomer for 13 almost 14 years. He was my heartbeat đ Lost him to diabetes, miss him daily. Canât wait to own another. Best breed ever.
My westie is very naughty, does what he likes and gives you the LOOK when checked. A great watch dog. He is loved in the family.
My westie has often ran out the front door going to play with the other kids in my estate, I swear he thinks he IS one of the children! When we try to call him back, we also just get 'the look' and he continues on playing
Best to start training right away, they can be very stubborn, but when trained they are really well behaved.
My Bailey is only 3 months old and already so smart. It was a breeze teaching him to use puppy pad and walk on a leash. I have a small problem with biting and barking, but will try to teach him not to do it. He's my sister's dog's son. My sister's westie is the best dog in the world (he's 6yo), so I hope my Bailey will be at least half as smart and loyal. â€ïž
Just try and socialize them. Mine wasnât and heâs great everywhere but with other dogs.
I love my little Westin, they are such an intelligent breed of dogs
My sweet westy Teddy he loves to play football, each time he see me he bring the ball to play. Love him.
All I have ever had is a Westie(even growing up, my parents had Westies). Some are easier to train. Some have allergies. Gotta love that Westie head tilt, melts my heart every time . Ours is almost 5yrs old. We have 3 kids(21, 16 & 14) & he loves everyone equally. He loves to sleep on our heads at night. Westies are the best dogs ever!!!!!
My little Westie Joey passed away on my sister's birthday we had him for 13 years and he was the best boy we've ever had and I'll always miss him and he did love life to the most with that sparkle in his eye he always had a skip in his step as well whenever we took him out on walk it's actually really good with small animals he bathes quick friends with the rabbits while he was still around and he helped out the cats when they're kittens never harming them he also kept the chicken safe when he was still around and when we still had chickens
One westy (three month old) come before 15 days come in my life.. (Dubrovnik, Croatia) he is one of the best things whats happend to me.
I have a Westie and I love him to infinity & beyond!! He's stubborn, feisty, loving and intelligent....he rules the house and is sooo cute - you let him do it. WESTIES RULE!!!!
I`ve never owned a dog but been thinking about it since I`m finishing work soon! I really like these guys.
They are not easy to find a good breeder. I looked in three states and there was just one breeder. Find a breeder on line if you have trouble and ask if they deliver by carrier if it is not close.
@@Savannah2751 They were hard to find. Ended up with a rescue dog. Staffie/collie cross called Lola :)
ive had like 3 different dogs and met a bunch. if youre looking for love, you will never regret a westie
Best decision youâll ever make is getting a Westie
Oh this makes me miss my lil polar bear Sport. I love westies so much
We just lost ours at 8 years old. They steal your heart so easily its unbelievable.. Just an amazing breed..
So sorry our boy is 3. What happened if I may ask
@@jamessweeny9674 it was cancer in the stomach/ small intestine. Been sick for about two years. The vets thought it was something else gave us special food and then BAMM.. in two days he went down hill and there was nothing that could be done when they did an ultra sound..this was last Thursday.. It sucks..
@@twentygauge2858 Iâm so so so so sorry. Beyond words. Our guy is 3 and we rescued him in December. He has brought such a bright light itâs hard to imagine and Iâm trying to learn every health issue. RIP. Iâm so sorry.
@@jamessweeny9674 thank you, yes research all you can about this breed. It can't be explained about this breed there is just something about them that steals your heart
@@twentygauge2858 Thanks for being willing to share. Youâre in our thoughts and best wishes. đđ»
"Westies have no small opinion of themselves", We have had two Westies and they could not have been more different. The first, May was a typical Westie in temperament. Our second, Sophie, way quiet and demure. We loved them and miss them.
Westies donât have owners. They have staff.
LOL, I couldnât think of a better way to describe the Westie than that. Perfect evaluation of the little bossy boots.
To John Hastings: John you hit the nail on the head!!! Your comment says it all for all Westies' staff members.

john hastings totally agree đ€Ł
I had 2 of them, and yes they are the boss. At least, they think so đ€Ł
Indeed
We are on our third Westie over the years. They have all been great, growing up in a family of active boys and then settling down to a now retired couple. I often come home in the late afternoon cuddled up asleep with my husband also sleeping!!
I'm planning to get a westie in the future can't wait to have a one
My website died September 24th and I still cry every day

Itz Camull Donât you love auto correct?!
We have our two and let me tell you after 11 and 14 years old we love them like they are our kids with fur. Westies are the best ever.
I love my westie too! They are cute, stubbon and your best friend!
I love my Westie, he is 12 years old, for health reasons we have to separate bedrooms with my husband. My dog is so sweet that the first part of the night he sleeps with my husband and around 3 in the morning he comes to my bed. But when L donât feel well he stay all night with me.
Our girl is a wonder. Very loving. She has been spoiled. My husband calls her "la principesa" đ She loves to go for rides around town and on "sniffs" aka slow nose to ground sniffing walks. We received her at age 3...she is now 6. She does think EVERYTHING is food so we must be watchful. A rub me now! pup, she is our joy.
My Westie, Ollie, is almost 13 yrs old and the love of my life. He is certainly a lap dog and is spoiled rotten. He would lick an intruder after he barked for a while. He has killed mice in the garage and loves our cat. He does suffer from itchy skin from time to time. Would definitely get another one.
When my Westie was at agility training, he was the only small dog there and all the other dogs owners gave him dirty looks until my Dad and Mum were teaching him on the A frame, they accidently left it at it's steepest setting and when they noticed my Dad saw two little paws grab on to the top and then they saw Scotties happy face as he jumped down đ
Very helpful, thank you. We are looking after our Grandson's Westie for three months and are learning about his psychology! Well done.
My West Highlander is my best friend â€ïž
Spunky, brave, always right in the thick of things -- for sure
Every day is an adventure and a Westie is helping!
I have had 2 Westies and now have an adopted Westie mix. They are NOT lapdogs. They like being next to you, but not on your lap. Although most sources say they are hard to train, I did not find them so, even though I got my first Westie when I was 50 years old and had not had a dog since I was a kid. However, I am naturally a strong alpha dog.
Sandra Pak Iâve had multiple Westinâs for 40 years... and they have all loved sitting in my lap! Must depend on their individual personalities and how they are raised. Iâve also read about how they arenât a good breed for small children, but we raised our Westinâs along with 4 kids... they were great pals!
My dog screams if I Don't let him on my lap and will often lay on my head in bed
Yep mine too she stays on my lap she sits in the seat beside me with her head on my lap when i drive shes my best friend
