  • THE 2020 ONLINE EDITION OF THE CAPE ST. MARY’S PERFORMANCE SERIES
Over the past 22 years, the Cape st. Mary’s Performance Series has maintained a diverse programming to represent as much as possible the performing arts genres in the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador in Canada.
    ·
Traditional music and its tradition bearers as well as singers and storytellers from the local areas around Cape St. Mary’s, i.e. the towns and communities of Branch, St. Bride’s, Point Lance, Cuslett and all other communities along the so called Cape Shore, who were raised in these traditions often happily go beyond their cultural boundaries and explore traditions from other countries which they see as their own roots such as Ireland, England, or Scotland. They have often adapted these traditional elements to their own local cultural histories and thereby carved and yet still form their own versions of theses traditions.
    ·
This week’s edition of the Cape St. Mary’s Performance Series features two of the stark representatives of their own cultural heritage. Singer and guitarist DENIS NASH jr. welcomes us to his local as well as adapted versions of songs, and storyteller TONY POWER offers us an interesting insight into the storytelling tradition of his own family.
