DJ-ing is not a perfect art, what I mean by that is the DJ's have to make so many corrections, most of which we will never hear if they're as good as QBert and still keep the beat perfect... Imagine how many calculations your brain has to make to process all that info so quickly... Truly amazing and excellent vid...
I seen this 3 years ago was just surfing CZcams because I wanted to see wave twisters and now cruzing this and recent interviews to catch up on the master Q. Dude will always be a legend to me for as long as I live
The section starting at 5:18 - 5:33 is something I always come back to. I once recorded it to use it as my phones ringtone. Absolutely phenomenal cuts. Still blows my mind, even to this day. Edit: I've just searched down the thread and realised I made pretty much this exact same comment 7 years ago. :)
Know what I like best about this? It's the breaks he takes periodically. He doesn't need to have a six-minute total uninterrupted stream of scratching. He can take pauses, let what he just threw at us "sink in", give us time to realize "yeah, that was awesome after all", and then give us a breather before he hits us with more. Takes courage to take pauses like that. Takes confidence.
Unless Jeff has been keeping up with the new styles then I doubt he could pull this off. Its a completely different approach to the turntable compared with oldskool scratches, much more fluid
Adrian Thomas-Prestemon I dunno bro. We tend to call those who don't scratch, Disc Jockeys. Its just like "playing radio". I don't mind either way. Whatever keeps the party going.
Ukulele Foote FYI, DJ is short for "Disc Jockey". Anyone who plays music for an audience -- no matter their skill level -- is a "Disc Jockey" a.k.a. DJ. I'm with you on the "whatever keeps the party going"; that is undoubtedly what a DJ is for. There are certainly many different kinds of parties -- turntablism wouldn't really fly someplace like Ibiza, for example. Turntablists are a subset of DJs who have higher levels of skill in an area of the craft tangential to "traditional" mixing. InceptionMusic seemed to be confused about the definition of DJ.
Adrian Thomas-Prestemon Yes sir. I understand DJ is short Disc Jockey. I'm an '80's baby. DJ took on a whole new meaning then for us. Today, we call it, its own, turntablism. Disc Jockey's got their start in radio. Thats why I sometimes refer to the "digital" DJs of today as nothing more than their original counterpart, the radio Disc Jockey. Under one umbrella, we are ALL DJs/Disc Jockeys. But today it seems, we are creating individual "sub-genres" I suppose Id call it. By classifying oneself as a turntablist as opposed to a DJ, we have entered this realm of subjective debate on what a real DJ is.
watching this is like watching jimmy page play the guitar. we will never be this good. ever. there is only one qbert. i will keep trying to master my baby scratch :)
@@diroos I can’t remember exactly at the moment. I wanna say it’s something like q Bert DIY learn to scratch or something? It’s laying around somewhere, but I can’t remember. I’m sure it’s on CZcams somewhere.
@18EZRA81 its from a battle dvd, theres a whole section of question and answer videos so you can set your decks up and battle qbert in your living room
i got this dvd there are 4 or 5 of these skits where he dresses up in front of a green screen, its a good video if you want to learn how to set up your tables and scratch, he also tells you how to fix your plumbing, lol
The way this video was produced was for DJs to hook up their DVD player to their mixer, in order to "session" with Qbert himself. So the parts where he goes silent is where one would scratch.
q-bert is just a beast, he got so much skill - incredible... well hes usin vestax nowadays but i think it all started with the mighty technics... who doesnt have em..?!?! :)

Holy shit... this was 13 years ago
I'm old af!
12 years later and this still rips. 2:56 😍
It's mind bending to consider how all that cool is being safely contained by this video!
I’m gona have this played at my funeral. In 2103 it’ll still be a banger
Still firmly believe QBert is the best scratch DJ on the planet.. as far as equipment goes I find 1210's are just as good, a lot of the pros use them
this is officially my favourite video on youtube
Just arrived home from a Q-bert Gig in Oslo, it was damn awesome, NO ONE is as good as Q
This "cat" along with Jazzy Jeff is, and always will be the best scratch djs alive! These new dudes just make alot of noise. 😂!
You haven’t heard of toadstyle?
You obviously know nothing about the artform
@@KINGTRAGIC1 you’re right I’m old school. This new stuff sounds like crap. 😂

You're a scratch GOD!!!
With Mastering comes much humor
this is by far the dopest thing i've seen in a while!
most masterful scratching demonstration I've ever seen and heard
Now this is a real DJ! Thank god they still exist :D
InceptionMusic The word you're looking for is "turntablist".
Real DJs can exist without scratching. Scratching is really cool, but not required.
