The Kia Stinger is a more affordable alternative to cars such as the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe and Audi A5 Sportback, undercutting the latter in the USA by over $10,000 in base form.
Much in the same way it put its new Forte against the Lamborghini Aventador, the Korean automaker has released a new video that pits the $41,250 Stinger GT with limited-slip differential pack, against the larger and much more expensive BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe and Porsche Panamera, both of which cost in the region of $90,000.
Supervised by AMCI Testing, the 'comparison test' included four ytials: acceleration, cornering, slalom, and closed-course lap, and each car was driven by a professional racing driver. To no one's surprise, the Korean five-door liftback prevailed in most tests, although the Panamera V6 turned out to be slightly better around corners, whereas the Bimmer came in last each time.
Kia appears to really embrace this practice of pitting its new cars against much more expensive metal. Not that it expects Panamera or Aventador customers to opt for the Stinger or Forte, of course, but it's a novel, way of advertising their new models. They certainly have a sense of humor those guys, don't they?

BerserkFury89 I’ve also had a 2019 GT2 AWD for about a year now. Not a single problem, they even fixed some of the creaks and rattles of the 2018 models. I’ve gotten about 18 mpg with a lead foot and 93 octane. It’s an amazing car and it’s made my commute & all driving so much more fun!

dunno what the cost will be ... but anyone in theri right mind would spend $55k on a sporty ACURA over a KIA that cost the same money!
Heck, as expensive as brands are becoming, it makes sense to just go straight for BENCHMARK BRANDS, like BMW, Audi and MB.
Only thing is, for OWNERS, once that warranty runs out ... its heck of expensive IF things go wrong. Smaller brands may not be as expensive long term.

I found a 2013 Audi RS5 with less than 14000 miles. And that model sounds GREAT! It's practically a "new" car.
I also found a few BMW 7 Series that were 2017 year models for about 30-40K off the original cost. Dont remember the mileage. I've always wanted a 7, but they are too "executive" for me these days. That 8 look sick ... but I can't afford that at all.
Ford is coming out with a new electric car. Looks pretty cool ... for a Ford.
Hyundai is bringing their GV80 ... and its a BEAUT! But, I can't wrap my head around spending that much $$$ for a Hyundai!
Volvo is doing well these days too.
So, shop around. If you are going to spend THAT much money on a darn KIA, you should really, really look around. There are some interesting things coming down the pipe.

BMW driver here....it stings for sure! Driving experience in a bimmer is second to none. But I also own a 7 year old KIA Sorento V6 and I am happy with the performance and long term ownership. Great job Kia.
Good to hear someone with an ego that is not in the clouds. And that KIA Sorento was not even marketed towards the luxury sport sedan demographic. I challenge anyone that doesn't think the Stinger is fantastic to go to your local KIA dealer and drive one. There is no way you get out of the car and think "it is just a cheap KIA."
Troy Remy oh I don’t doubt the stinger is a great drive. I’ve had loaner a 2016 Kia Rio and mid trim Optima while the Sorento was in the shop and have been impressed with how fun they are to drive. I’ve sat in a Stinger and the fit and finish is on par with luxury cars twice the price. The Kia brand has proven itself!

The German car people are not be they know the Panamera used for this was a non turbo V 6 with 300 hp. That’s the slowest platform. Try running again St the other v6twin turbo🤔 that’s where you will remain silent.
People who can afford luxury sedans like BMW 340i, Jaguar XE S, Audi S4, etc., don't care about money. The Kia is a damn good car for the price, but it's still a Kia. And now that's it's been out for a while and there's operating history available, it's suffering from some pretty bad reliability issues.
Lastly, out of all those I mentioned, I'll take a Jag over a Stinger any day simply for the look and the raw sound. Just can't be replicated.

I have owned more than a few German/British/Japanese cars over the past 27 years. Audi (A4/A6), Mercedes (e350), BMW (328/550i/745Li), Jagaur (XF/XE), Infiniti (M45/G37). I never halfway looked at a Kia until I went to a dealer three weeks ago to help my mother-in-law get a car. They had a brand new black stinger on the showroom floor I couldn't keep my eyes off it. Long story short, I traded my Jaguar XF for the showroom stinger after I test drove one from the lot. I absolutely love how the car handles on the highway. Albert Biermann from BMW did a good job in aiding in the design of the stinger. Honestly, it does handle better than the 3 and 5 I previously owned. I can't believe that I own a KIA!! There aren't too many on the roads here in Augusta, GA either, so I get asked the magic question all the time: "What is that!!" I use to cringe when answering, but know I proudly say its a KIA!

That's not even an M nor it is the proper class to go against the Kia Stinger! Like a strong chassis, a transmission that can stand the torque of that engine, performance breaks, and other things. So that Kia is not just a powerful engine in a regular car.
You think you can put a 360hp engine in a regular car and make it work? The transmission will fail very soon, the clutch, breaks, and other things.
The Stinger is a great car and it gots performance parts from big makers.

The kia stinger was engineered by a ex 32 year BMW M DIVISION ENGINEER. Of course this thing is badass what did you expect when you find out this information.

Peter schreyer was a huge engineer for audi/vw and is the chief designer engineer for the Kia stinger platform. So they got BMW and Audi on it. You can see the audi inspiration throughout the car. Especially the design of the rear of the car. Beautiful car all around

Most German engineers work with American, Japanese, and Korean cars. That is why they are getting as good as them. Look at the Supra, perfect example of a first crossover sports car by two rival countries that makes sports cars to rival each other !

I'm a big fan of German Cars (particularly BMW) and I Happily Agree.
I was reviewing SUV's I'm shopping for, and came across this on youtube.. checked it out.. test drove it twice and put one in my driveway :-).. Handles great.. took a 180 curve off ramp and accelerated to over 80kms/hr with now tire squeel and with ease. Then the bembro brakes came in handy :-) . Love it so far. K & N filters are in and hope to take it to a track or drag strip in spring. :-)

Kia oversea's pays far less for labor, you'll find some strike articles if you look. They pay well in America. They can deal out the parts and performance because the large work force is underpaid overseas. that's how they meet the quality of BMW for a lower price

Frankly, I'd rather drive a Kia that can perform closely to M and S cars and also help me put money towards other things in life rather than repairs after warranty runs out. There is nothing, I mean nothing impressive about any BMW under a 28 and Audi's ride is boring. Mercedes C class are among the most uncomfortable luxury cars I've been in and everyone I know who has owned any German luxury car has gotten rid of them because of the problems that come with them after warranty runs out. Also, the Kia Stinger garners many compliments from BMW owners and Audi owners alike. Kia never marketed itself to be a high performance luxury brand and you shouldn't interpret it as such. They managed to make a kick ass car that had gotten far more attention from car enthusiasts than most German cars of the same years. If brand is what you're going for, that's fine, but that also reflects your lack of knowledge that there's a hell of a lot more going on under the hood than the badge on top of it. Your German car will be almost as common as a Honda civic with a fraction of the features of a Stinger at almost 15k more brand new, and it will lose its value greatly as the years pass. Perhaps then it will be cheap enough for you to purchase and impress your friends while you eat Kraft dinner because all your money is going to nonsense repairs that these companies don't want you to do yourself.

I have decided on the GT Limited up here in Canada, KIA should not get the bad Rap they still get, they make top of the line Vehicles I am coming out of a 2015 Optima SX so this is a logical and exciting Upgrade. I am not a Brand snob and if I can save 10k by not getting a badge then that is indeed what I am going to do. KIA is on there way up...But to each his or her own.

Base model is simply the entrance model of its OWN model range ... and the "base model" X3, X4, X5, X6 and X7 ALL come with leather interior. Did you even bother to look this up?? I didn't need to. I'm guessing the X1 doesnt. Maybe the X2 as well.

Having reviewed the video and comments, I have come to the conclusion that in order for this to be a "fair" test the KIA must: 1) be compared to a vehicle that costs 3x it's price or 2) be compared to a vehicle of a different type or size. Simple!

I bought one Kia Stinger GT 2 1 months ago, What an amazing car, All in one package. So fast, So reliable, High end and high Class with one of the best designs. Cars with 100k can't beat this car.
I had plan to buy a Porsche Cayman but I changed mind to Stinger since I could save a lot money and get a good car which have all features and performance with cheaper price. So my pocket and me are both happy now :)
So if you must buy a foreign car it might as well be the cheapest one.

Anton Zuykov Kia gives huge discounts. The SS was overpriced and Chevy didn't really discount them.

KIA deserves some credit. They did a great job, and it's really just the badge that's throwing everybody off.. I'll give my two cents;
When I traded in for my 2016 911 at Porsche, the salesman said something to me that I believe is incredibly accurate. The German brands bang out a lot of very cheaply made production cars (for Porsche it's the Macan, BMW the smaller vehicles x1, 3 series x3 etc.) and they rely on the sales of these cars to manufacture their REAL German engineered beasts which are their M products, or in Porsche's case their performance vehicles. The funny part is, it's that same M badge that is the staple that made the BMW brand itself popular & high - end, but their production cars are so far off of their M products. At the end of the day, KIA's real challenge is going to be in its consistency to produce vehicles like this. If they revolutionize the remainder of their model line-up and do some rebranding (the badge looks too cheap for starters) they may earn a place near BMW, Mercedes, Audi in 50+ years from now.
People need to realize that the German brands are as popular as they are because they have a very long heritage of making fantastic cars and doing it consistently. Other automakers like KIA need to earn their spot, and it takes time & a lot of effort plain and simple. My view? I think this vehicle will suffer in sales due to the Germans existence, and incentives will be offered out to compensate for their disappointing sales volume, cheapening the car and ultimately forcing KIA to downgrade the model which will keep it redundantly in the same class of vehicle that they have made up until now. A lot of automakers have tried to release these game changing cars over the years, but consumers have time and time again preferred their BMW's & Mercedes. The only saving grace to keep the quality of this KIA up is that they continue increasing in sales for their other vehicle to support the expenses of producing this car in what I think will be a low volume few years coming up.

I have one and it has none of that.In fact the interior is on par with a Honda crossstour I traded in--which is fine with me.

The fact that a Kia is even being compared to a Porsche and BMW is a huge win for Kia imo.. Sure, not exactly an apple to apples comparison, but sure, a comparison of GT cruisers that are about similar in size and power, sure...I get it. I drove in my buddy's Panamera last night (I think ~3 years old) and he made a sudden U-turn and it made some CRAZY SOUNDS in the wheel well...think the wheels were rubbing? (Wheels are completely stock too, fyi) I heard about locking the noises when locking the steering wheel when reversing in Porsches too... WTF Porsche can't fix this? Anyways, I'm a brand snob but I'm still buying this Kia... Super impressed. I'll just have to change the bad to the "E" logo you can buy in Korea...
to even see a kia up against these brands has made me consider i actually do have a gem as a car.. i recently wanted to trade for a panamera .. this made mee want to keep my stinger

You should appreciate and respect KIA for what they did,. They leave you with more money in the pocket for the same high performance and they give you a longer warranty.
In Australia these are priced for top of range for roughly 60k no thx not for a KIA and it ssys on KIA website 0-100km is 4.9secs with launch assist.

0-60 mph is 0-96 km/h. This would explain the difference.
yeah...Kia Stinger in Australia is about 70000 thats just absurd..the stinger in U.S is the same as the one here just that 0-60 miles is 4.6 secs and 0-100 kms is 4.9 secs Mars

Just bought my 2018 stinger on Saturday All I can say is this car is bad ass. It’s wicked fast. And I fucking luv mine.
Hyundai and Kia has done great in terms of letting car designer do their job and push their products to the next level. While everyone focuses on Trucks, SUVs and Crossovers. They are taking the fight to the meat and bone of the major competition.

BMW 6 series is not the same class as the Stinger. should have tested the M3 or the M4 which being a performance pack car is more like the Kia Stinger performance package version tested in size and wieght. BMW M3 0-60 in 4.0 seconds and the M4 does it in 3.8 seconds
Stinger is similarly sized to an M5
Maybe a 440i gran coupe. M3/4s are smaller, less practical, and much more expensive of course

I have an BMW m5 e60. but this stinger is a super great car and the funny thing is that many people do not know that the designer of Kia stinger is bmw old designer who has sketched it and that it is similar to the BMW 5 Series in the chassi.
Good job to Kia, but your testing KIA’s top model against Porsche’s base model and a mundane BMW. Still tho the Kia is really inexpensive but come on.

The idea was testing it against sporty named competitors who were both DOUBLE the cost. Meaning dollar amount =/= performance.
You definitely have a point but KIA is definitely stepping up I wanted a mid size SUV never had one but the sorento caught my eye over the infinity I have to say it was definitely bang for buck like way more bang for a new zero mile vehicle but I do want a car as well this stinger is looking pretty good and Audi is on the menu both cars are very powerful great features but KIA offer a better warranty kia my be the underdog and you have to admit buddy she's making noise

With tests like this, it comes down to the driver. To be a controlled test, you must use the same driver for all. No matter how good they all are, one of them is always a better driver, vise versa.

They could have compared this to an M2 (365 BHP) but they didn’t because it would just destroy it. They literally compared this to BOATS. Who knows, maybe that engine could handle over 800 WHP on the stock internals. Looking forward to what it can do

I've driven many cars and owned one Kia and private leased 2 more Kia's.. I can honestly say Kia are the best I've ever driven. Not only that, they are better designed and come with a lot of tech. Would take the Stinger for £42k over those others any day of the week..
Matthew Haverly BMW has been in my family for over 30 years and we have never ever had reliability issues I was handed down a E46 BMW 330ci convertible with 105k km and I drove it right up to 232k km I used to do doughnuts and drift in that thing and all I had to maintain was the tyres brakes and the usual service intervals. My nephew is the new owner and that thing still goes like a bull. So get your facts straight about reliability..fact is if you service your car you shouldn't have issues so....have you even ever owned a BMW?
I can say the same as Andrew, I'll admit, as the car(s) get older, they do need to go visit the shop now and then but it's not all too bad. German Cars seem to have gotten way more reliable then they used to be. Anyways the Kia Stinger itself is a great car and there's no doubt about it.
Matthew Haverly German cars will have crap reliability if you treat them like crap. So since you don't like German cars, if you were to ever own one, you'd probably treat it like crap. I've heard about many different German cars going 1,000,000 KM/MILES, but never a Kia

Perhaps you’re not be a MBZ/bmw/Audi owner because if you were you would know the resale values of premium german cars are shockingly bad. Especially for MBZ/bmw/Audi premium german flagships. Very few in their right minds will want to buy a used lease return german car about to go out of warranty and that is one of the main reasons for the horrid resale values. Due to their reliability issues and high repair/maintenance costs the market for such used cars is not as big as you might think. You have to be willing and able to spend big bucks to keep them running so that you can show off your 3-4 yr old used premium german car. Wow!

I don't think it will depreciate that much. If you get a 3 year old stinger you still have more warranty then a brand new BMW. And once the warranty is over I doubt it will break as much as the "german engineered" cars. The kia badge will definitely depreciate the car, but you won't lose nearly as much money as a German car.
You take heavier cars with weaker engines and - miracle - they lose :)

This is so unfair there putting a Kia gt and a BMW 640i with a Porsche Panamara of course the Porsche is going to win get the bmw m3 or m5 those are real super sedans and i bet you one of them will destroy the both of them
These are all 4-door Hatchbacks/ Sportback/ Fastbacks, still within fairgrounds, and considering an M3 and an M5 start at ~67k and ~100k (2019 prices) respectively. So I sure hope they will destroy both the Stinger and the Panamera which start at ~51K and ~86k (2019 prices) respectively. Rather than using the M3 or M5, use the 4 series gran coupe M sport, which fully loaded would cost around 68k, I think that would be a more fair comparison cause it hits that middle ground. But that's just my thoughts on this. Either way, this is just marketing for the KIA Stinger
