  • Which Metal Detector is The Best? I Finally Made My Decision! It came down to 4 machines but really only 3. I want to give a shout out to Fort Bedford Metal Detectors for giving me the opportunity to test drive these metal detectors. If you are looking for a new metal detector, coil, or any kind of accessory for your existing machine, I highly recommend giving John from Fort Bedford Metal Detectors a call at 814-215-1732 or visit his website: www.fortbedford... I can't thank them enough for letting me try out these machines. Give him a call!

    I'm just glad to see that the Simplex was on your final 4 list. I am also happy to note that while it didn't win, it was one-upped by a detector that was $600-650 higher priced! That shows anyone who can't/won't spend that much money (like me) a MUCH more affordable, very GOOD alternative! Good video!

    I have a CTX, AT Pro, Excalibur 800, an Etrac, and an Equinox 800, and over the last 35 years I have had Whites and a Bounty hunters as well. I also has issues with the AT Pro with the factory coil, but the issue was resolved with Garrett with only a few head aches. Each detector has its own unique set of parameters which I exploit in various conditions. The AT Pro goes with me on overseas hunts. It just murders the relics in German forests and parks. Etrac is a proven winner on dry unplowed soft loam and sandy fields. The CTX is a killer on open salt water beaches and the well rotted buffalo crap, black soil of the Midwest like Iowa, Nebraska and Indiana. The Excalibur is good in the deeper water in the Caribbean islands. But for mudlarking around drained lakes, small beaches with tons of trash, or shallow river detecting, nothing compares to the Equinox with the six inch coil. You will need to tinker with the internal programs to get the max performance out of it. It doesn't like power lines real well and has a bunch of other quirks as most detectors do, but the light weight, depth, and maneuverability around objects will win you over. My next detector is the XP. Good hunting and happy hunting from Ohio.

      thanks for the info and good luck with the XP. I've done really well with the Deus but it has it quirks as well but its a fine relic and coin machine. I did find a person that has all three in Colorado who spoke highly of his 800 verses his 900 and his new Manticore.

    Not trying to persuade ya. I bought the at Max an I've never found so much new stuff. It's all in what you are looking for. When it comes to civil war relics an silver. I have never found so much since I bought the at Max. An as you know it is water proof an wireless with both the metal detector an the pin pointer. An they work awesome. An I dig alot of good targets from 12-24 inches it definitely goes deep. At first I thought I was just getting mixed signals. So I told myself that I was going to dig the signal until I found something. Low an behold two silver mercs 1941&1944. About 16 inches down. An I thought that it was just going to be some iron or a can /junk. Now I dig everything. It's all in what you like. The main thing is learning the signal/sound. I myself can honestly say I have learned about everything I know about the at Max on how to set it up, an use it. An what to listen for as far as good targets sounds. Such as brass, gold, silver, iron, etc. From the one an only aquachigger. Good luck with your new detector. As always safe an happy hunting.😁👍👍

    I believe you’ll enjoy the 800. There are a lot of little tips all over CZcams on how to improve its performance, and I’ve been amazed each and every time I put one of those into practice. I bought a 600 when the Nox first came out because I hated my AT Max, and now it’s the backup machine to my 800 which I’ve had for about a year now. The 600 also holds the 6” coil for when I need to get into tight spaces or to work trashy sites with good targets. Also have the 15” coil, and love it in big spaces where I can cover a lot of dirt more efficiently.
    I’ve been looking for another toy for a few months, so I borrowed the Simplex from my hunting buddy for a few days. It found a bunch of stuff, but it wasn’t anything that I could say that it challenged either Nox machine. Plus, the audio reminded me of the AT Max, which I couldn’t tolerate. The Deus doesn’t interest me, and frankly, I believe it’s over priced...but that’s just me! Nokta has a simultaneous multi frequency in their skunk works, so I’ll just save my money and wait for that to hit the market. Knowing Nokta, it will be another game changer like the Simplex.
    Best of luck with your new toy! Wise choice!

I have high hopes for it but I've also really enjoyed my Equinox 800. Will Minelab learn from XP? Minelab usually sets the bar IMO. So I wouldn't expect an update for the Nox. There isn't much more you can do with that machine so I would expect them to come out with something really different but I wouldn't expect to see anything any time soon. For the record, this is just me speculating and I have no inside knowledge about Minelab. Keep in mind too that the Deus was not an easy machine to learn whereas the NOx was breeze. So a few things about the video that I'm surprised nobody called it out but it was a cool video none the less so I'm not taking anything away from him or the video. BUT I never saw any setup info on Deus which is SUPER important to know up front. The Deus is very configurable but I would never use any stock programs. I would start out with the Deep program and adjust accordingly. I didn't see any of that. The Deus is a relic machine and in those condition should have ruled the day. The tones I heard sound like he was just using one of the stock programs but its hard to say. Too each his own. The multi-IQ that the Vanquish has (same as the Nox) has it benefits for sure. I'm using the Equinox now more than I am the Deus.

    So, here’s my question; does the multifrequency capabilities of Minelab really amount to anything? Does it really make a difference? In head to head tests against other detectors with a single frequency that I’ve seen, not a bit. Might explain why no other companies are rushing out to try and copy that technology.

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  Před 4 lety +1

      If you say so but why is Garrett adding it, XP I hear is going after it, Minelab has been doing it for years with the CTX if it doesn't work why would they put it into the Equinox, Vanquish etc. I used to be a non believer myself but after using the Equinox the other day a permission that was becoming quiet, the Equinox pulled out over 30 more coins and 4 more silver. Thats all I needed to see for a 2 hr hunt.

      @@MentalMetal I think the Nox is an amazing machine and I think SMF is real but, just not convinced it’s as big a deal. I understand the theory and I will have to reserve judgement until I swing one.

      I have the at pro for years... Great machine, but is useless in saltwater wet sand (that's where all the heavy jewelry ends up). Also the ATP can be useless in allot of sand conditions. I have the nox 600 coming in the mail and they are very popular up here in New England for Beach work.
      So yeah multi frequency means Beach detecting is possible. My AT pro won't be sold since it's going amazing colonel relics in the woods, and I've had zero issues with it for about 7 years of regular use. It's great in the woods and freshwater.
      We'll see how it stacks up in the woods (the nox stock coil looks a bit big for the woods I'm generally in).

    What would you recommend for a beginner?

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  Před rokem

      Depends the type of hunting you want to do. Do you require the machine to be waterproof, are you hunting beaches etc. Minelab has a good beginner machine called the Vanquish. If you get the 540 pack you get wireless headphones. However, now the the new Minelab Equinox 700 and 900s are coming out the 600 will probably get a lot cheaper and beginners can figure out that machine. But to be honest Give my friend John from Fort Bedford Metal Detectors a call and he can help you figure out the best machine for you. 814-215-1732.

    Now that you have tested the nox800 and like it. I have the AT Max and like it but I can’t stand the chatter. I can’t shut the chatter up. So I’m looking into the nox800. It will be 90% beach detecting. Should I make the switch?

    • @MentalMetal
      @MentalMetal  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes I had great success with the Nox 800 on the beach. Pulled up 6 rings on my vacation last summer. It does great on the beach. Give Fort Bedford a look. They will give you a great deal but tell them I sent you their way. Good luck!
