    Beautiful car inside and out. BUT that engine wasn't intended for the GS.

      Toyota4Life you be surprised in other markets ouside of US, Lexus is using the 2.0t engine on the new RX's.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  Před 7 lety +1

      Almost everyone is using small engines with forced-induction to lower their CAFE averages. It's a smart work-around, but it doesn't always work the best in every vehicle. We do hear that Toyota has some all new powertrains in the pipeline, starting in 2017, as well as some new 8- and 10-speed auto transmissions, too. Could be another 5 years or so before all of this hits the market, though. We appreciate your comments, Toyota4Life. Thanks for watching!

      true, volvo only use 4bangers in new diesels now.

    • @Jtob410
      @Jtob410 Před 6 lety +1

      The BMW 528i has the same specs, and sells just fine. They’re just following the Germans, which will just expand who can afford to get the car.

  • @pedrofernandez3893
    @pedrofernandez3893 Před 7 lety +7

    4bangers are for economy cars, NOT luxury ones, I don't care who makes it. A V6 is the least engine I would consider in a luxury car.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  Před 7 lety +2

      We used to think EXACTLY the same way, pedro fernandez. Now we feel as long as there are people willing to buy the smaller-engined cars, manufacturers can keep making the larger-engined cars that we like to drive. We're selfish that way.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  Před 7 lety +2

      Yeah, the GS is a great car, but the 200t doesn't quite cut it for us, John Green. It's not horrible, it's just not the 350 which has a great V6 engine. Of course, we might say the same thing about the 3.5L V6 if we ever got the opportunity to test the GS-F. LOL Oh, well. We have issues like that. Thank you for your comments and for watching, too!

    U killed the intro and camera angles. This is gear toward buyer like me, have an HS250...looking for the next. Got out of a 3 series and x5....so much happier with Lexus b/c of maintenance cost bttr, along with not common factor. Benz and BMW are a dime a dozen now....if not seen in the street too much (which they are)...it’s def a thing in each used car lot u pass....and I mean EACH! I like this for the GS look, but over driving fast. Need the GS size, esp for rear seating (double dates etc)...which the IS just is too small. I like, down to about 35k on autotrader now, maybe next year. Great rev.

  • @dcharizard91
    @dcharizard91 Před 7 lety +7

    The GS200t is way too expensive...probably why you don't really see any on the road. That engine is just too small for this car.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  Před 7 lety

      Yeah. We think people who can afford cars like the GS 200t we reviewed can probably afford to spend a little more for the 350... and do. Thanks for watching, dcharizard91!

    I had this powertrain in my 2017 IS200t F-Sport that I drove for twenty one months & was decent for the most part with noticeable turbo lag, but was never overly annoying & never got loud & buzzy when pushed. I traded the car in two years ago & upgraded to a 2016 GS350 F-Sport which the V6 blows the turbo away with much more power, sounds a whole lot better & much better suits a luxury car. My GS rides better, but also surprisingly handles better than my IS did. The turbo likely won't last as long as the V6.

    As a gs350 owner, the 200t has loser written all over it. While I personally love my gs, lexus neglected the gs to death and the 200t is an embarrassment & weakens an otherwise misguided product.
    If reliability didn't matter, I'd drive an Audi or Mercedes, but, since reliability does matter, I drive Lexus.
