Her voice creates a wonderfully magic aura. Perfectly well sung though it's very hard to do it in such a wonderfully, precise way. Many thanks for this precious jewel-gem of fine arts.
Elsa Asta.
“Uncelebrated’” ? I don’t think so. Janet Baker was rightly considered the successor to the legendary Kathleen Ferrier who was described by Bruno Walter as almost definitely one of the greatest singers of all time.
Dame Janet will always be my favorite non- Latin Mezzo Soprano. I never heard this piece before. Sheer excellence. VIVA LA BAKER 👑💙🎹🎵🎼🎻 . Take care Theo 😷. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
Josias Ara interesting comparison - she has the same gleaming purity of tone. But much as I love Auger, Baker is a much deeper, greater artist - she touched heights and depths interpretively that Auger never managed.
@@greatmomentsofopera7170 I actually Don't know tooo mucj about Janet Baker. I've only know a some surface level stuff but I am comparing for the very reason you stated lol. Can anyone recommend some of Janet Bakers stuff?
Josias Ara Im going to be cheeky and recommend the live things I have posted on my channel - Stuarda and Handel! And there are countless genius level things - look up her Mahler and Elgar too.
@@eternalsilverlight Dame Janet recorded a compilation album entitled Arie Amorose. It's one of the best classical discs ever recorded. I highly recommend it.
I love this aria, and I absolutely love Baker in it. The conducting is exquisite too, and I love the richness of the orchestral sound -- I think it's Colin Davis conducting? I don't think anyone else has done this with the same weight that Baker provides, which is perfect for an ambitious and powerful would-be queen and usurper (almost a Lady Macbeth!) who finds her nobility at the last moment. I'm also a huge fan of the trio earlier in the opera ("Vengo! Aspettate..."), where you can really hear the heft of her voice even in the notes above the stave. The only disappointment there is that she didn't do the high D! Then it would have been perfect. She probably would never have attempted that in performance, but in a studio recording, I think she could have done it.
Such a good comment, I agree about Dame Janet's ability to plumb the depths of the roles that she sings! Whether that's intentional or an accidental aspect of her genius I don't know! A true great. Thank you.
I love Dame Baker but her voice is too beautiful for this role, I like even slightly worn out voices that has the perfidious malice that the role requires EVEN in this aria. I do not care if some high notes are not that right vocally but contains the intention that it needs.
I’ve always felt Baker is slightly disappointing in the chest register of this aria - she had a thrilling, huge chest register, but is using it very lightly here. My favourite by far in this aria is Malena Ernman.
well I think this is the way a lyrical voice dives down there, u cannot expect raw dynamic chest projection in this aria... this isnt Gioconda, it is an unexplained Mozartian perversion to transform a lyrical aria into a semi Assoluta vocal feat
Happy 90th Birthday, Dame Janet Baker! 🎉 🎂 🎈
True legato singing. Ease of emission. Style and ease and emotion. Perfection.

That switch in registration at 5:35 is so thrilling. Brava Baker!
The music you are uploading is helping me in an uninspired, busy and stressful time. Thank you. The beauty of your recent videos is jaw dropping..

Elsa Asta.
Every aspect of the character is captured here. Thank you.
The range in Vitellias part is G3 - D6 and Sesto is Bb3 - Bb5.
Comment ne pas tomber sous le charme de cette voix de Mezzo soprano. Merci.
An awesome artist!!.....I use that word rarely, and woefully uncelebrated on the whole!!..... beautiful tone to boot!!..... lovely 😘
her timbre is enormously beautiful, it reminds me of Nostalgia for something or some very old jewelry

Ogni commento sarebbe superfluo, voce, orchestrazione, e...fedeltà di registrazione.

You are helping me to find beauty in an ugly world.. huge hugs n much appreciated
..kisses and thank you for the always kind words
I feel like Janet Baker is like the Mezzo Arleen Auger
Josias Ara very apt comparison.

There is a Video of this…from her BBC program. I saw her perform this role.
I love Dame Baker but her voice is too beautiful for this role, I like even slightly worn out voices that has the perfidious malice that the role requires EVEN in this aria. I do not care if some high notes are not that right vocally but contains the intention that it needs.
dame Janet's voice has the color of a dusty Rose
@Charlie Charlie If you saw Dame Janet sing this as I did at the ROH, this would be THE version for you!

Is this Fiorgilini she is singing?
Vitellia from La Clemenza di Tito.
