The movie will tear your guts out when you watch it, metaphorically speaking, and move you to tears. It was an incredible movie and I think Mel Gibson deserves an Oscar for sure.

Sherubiiii Australia has a very small movie & television industry compared to the U.S. & other countries.
So there's little opportunity for young/new actors other than on shows like Home Away & Neighbours as there's only a small amount of 'home content' made in Australia.

As an Australian I can confirm that is that's pretty much an white ( but tanned) old Australian dad on the beach. I'm in the Victorian side of Australia, so we are a bit more multicultural and diverse then the rest of the county though! Even have fully covered Muslim ladies enjoying the water and beach.

Mel Gibson is a nervous wreck, guys. Remember he's been through the ringer and hadn't been on a talk show in years. He's not odd or on something.
I think his intense bouts with alcoholism also has a lot to do with it.

Rhythmattica I saw the movie and it was awful. I went in really wanting to see something good from Mel but the writing was so bad and the film itself is unbelievably heavy-handed. The extreme violence didn't feel impactful it felt like dumb excess.
But I'm still glad Mel is back and I want to see what he does next. I'm even interested in his Passion of the Christ sequel.
