Giant SMALLMOUTH Factory

  • Since October 2015, my personal best smallmouth has been a 6 lb 10 oz Susquehanna River fish that ate a spinnerbait in a post tropical storm flood. The conditions on Dworshak Reservoir in Idaho were significantly different. This giant hit a very finessey offering, a ‪@ZManFishingProducts‬ 4 inch Scented Jerk Shad in Shiner color. I was glad to share the experience with my buddy ‪@BrandonHua.Fishing‬

    Congratulations Jeff. That’s a dream fish there. I can’t imagine catching one that big!

      Part of it is going to where they live. But that doesn’t make it an automatic. I did struggle to get quality bites here. It’s not an easy fishery to hit without prior experience. Joey Walton guides here. If you go, using him as a guide would be your best bet on catching a giant.

    A 7+ pound Smallmouth?! Thats insane, Jeff! But then again, if anyone can get on one like that, its you!! :-) I'll be happy if I get a couple of foot long, one or two pounders on the Susky tomorrow! :-) Gotta try some of the things I been learning from you!!

      @@TheLittleStuff Well, only one 14 inch Smallie on a crank bait, BUT, I did get a 22 inch ,5+ pound Largemouth on a spinnerbait at remote lake in the Poconos, and plan to go back with some Chatterbaits & maybe a JackHammer like I watch you have used! I'm a rookie, but trying to put the learning into practice! Thanks for all your insights! :-)

    Over 7#. Wow. I am still on the hunt for a 6# fish. As you know, Prettyboy and Liberty hold fish this size. Susky and Upper Potomac maybe???? Rap over 22 is impressive.

    • @TheLittleStuff
      @TheLittleStuff  Před 2 měsíci

      The Rappahannock actually produced a 22 and 22.5 for me.

    • @Jrut224
      @Jrut224 Před 2 měsíci

      Absolutely. Both of those reservoirs hold some high-quality smallmouth. I've personally caught a handful of 20"+ this year, including a 22, all from the bank. I know a lot of other guys are catching these older fish too, but just aren't into sharing info. What interest me though, is that I don't seem to catch many younger/smaller smallmouth. It's just my experience, so who knows, but I've always wondered what that could mean for the future population.

      @tommyrq180 Před 2 měsíci

      Live on the Rapp. A 20” on the R is more like 4.5# whereas these lake fish can be much heavier per inch. My heaviest is a 21.5” at just a tick over 7# out of Lake Michigan. Was puking alewives as it came in, with another giant scarfing up the body parts during the fight. They’re like cement blocks and look much different than a river fish. Congrats on the monster, Jeff! 😊😅

    Love your content and congrats on pb!! Off topic question but if you had to choose between the sholie and the rvr for the susky which would it be? I plan on putting motor on which ever one i choose

    • @TheLittleStuff
      @TheLittleStuff  Před 2 měsíci +1

      It depends on how big a person you are. I fit better in the RVR.

    • @d-knight7019
      @d-knight7019 Před 2 měsíci

      5’9” and 180lbs I’m leaning more towards rvr but I knew you had used both and knew the river very well. Thx for input

    Congrats on the PB! That looked like a beautiful body of water.
    I soon upgrading my trolling motor and electronics on the front of my jet boat. Here’s the million dollar question. If you has to choose between mega live or mega 360, which would you pick?
    95% of my fishing is on north branch Susquehanna River.

    • @TheLittleStuff
      @TheLittleStuff  Před 2 měsíci

      Not sure yet. The 360 lets you know the whole structural layout in one glance. For someone who is a structure fishing angler, it’s incredibly useful. On Dworshak there was no structure, just depth and open water. Mega Live was huge there. Glad I have both!
