    The loss of Paddy, the other Clancy brothers, and Tommy Makem may signify the end of an era, yet we who love their music will not forget. Thanks to the internet, it is here to be heard and enjoyed. The parting glass is ever full.

    "Have ye no homes to go to"? What a fitting close to a fitting memorial. I guess that's the Irish tradition to say that at the end of a service. Very nice.

    I grew up in 1950's/60's England and we'd hardly heard of the Clancys and Tommy Makem, more's the pity.
    That's probably because they were based mainly in America and Ireland.

      Yeah, pity they never gigged here in England, we were stuck with grannies Irish darling Val Doonican and that jock Andy Stewart in his bloody kilt..;)

    Is it an Irish custom to say the line, "Have ye no homes to go to" after the last song is sung at a graveside service? I've noticed people in Ireland saying that.

    • @maryrose4712

      It's what the barman would inevitably shout out in the pub in an effort to close up, it never worked and was always ignored. It's a little joke.

    • @rossmcl177
      @rossmcl177 Před 7 lety +1

      The Clancy's would also say it at the end of their concerts as people were shouting for encores, so it has that significance as well.
