I played one of these in the 90’s for about 20 mins. I remember it vividly. I could probably be happy playing the blue channel for the rest of my life.

I worked in a big guitar store in germany for several years. I know/played all of the amps from the big manufacturers (Marshall/Engl/Mesa/Peavey/Fender/VHT/Soldano) and even some amps that are considered "boutique". For most of my time working there, we did not have bogner amps in our sortiment. Torwards the end of my time there, we finally got one Goldfinger and one Ecstasy head. Of course i had to immediately try them. And while the Goldfinger was not my cup of tea (still an great amp) i can tell you in all honesty that i have never played an amp like the ecstasy before. It felt like it played itself. Everybody who tested this amp and has a bit of knowledge will now what i mean. Exceptional amp, to this day the best sounding/feeling amp i have ever played.

They're great amps, I always just find them to be overly compressed. Like they tried when designing them to get a perfectly mastered studio sound coming out of the speakers straight away. Maybe I'm weird, but I don't like that feel, I want it just a tad rough around the edges.

I love amps that have more than 2 channels. The versatile options is important to me. I want the smaller 35 watt version.

These early Ecstacy amps really lend themselves to speaker pairing with all of that high detailed gain structure and thick mid range. Would love to hear it through Jensen Nighthawks or WGS Retro 30s

Great demo, Blake. I recently sold a '96 Ecstasy to fund another Wizard purchase. It is still one of my favorite amps all time. Firmly in my top 5 and absolutely my favorite Bogner (although we shall see when my Uber Ultra arrives): I liked it better than my rev Green and Blue Ubers, Helios and 20th Shiva.

Are Wizards worth the money? I’ve never played one and none of the shops near me carry them, and 5-6 grand on a blind purchase of an amp seems like a pretty big gamble. I know people like them, but are they really that much better than Bogners and such that are much easier to test and acquire?

    • @SluggerStark
      @SluggerStark Před 5 měsíci

@@bucknasty69 Man....that is a tough question to answer. At this level, all these amps are top tier, pro level tools. When you get into the realm of Wizards, Larry's, etc there is a diminishing returns for sure; you are paying thousands extra for that extra 5-10%. Whether that is worth it to you, I cannot say. Speaking from my experience: my first Wizard was the w800 100w. It had a level of clarity and punch I had not experienced before...combined with an incredible feel! I know they are difficult to do the "try before you buy" thing as they are a custom ordered amp, but they really need to be tried in person to get what they are about.

Sounds great Blake. What pickups are you using at 01:25 on the red channel? On the OG 101 there's no bypass cap on the last gain stage like post 2004 models and adds a ton of compressed gain. You have your gain under 12:00 so I'm wondering if yours might have been modded with the update......or you have the marvel mod on the back engaged. Either way sounds great, just noticed the gain was set low and you had crushing amounts of gain. BTW, good job on the clean settings, that's the best way to set it up ;)

The tone at 4 minutes is "IT"!!!!!! Probably the gain channel with the guitar volume backed off.

Surprisingly the Bogner red and blue (but especially the red) pedals docapture the essence of this amp. Best pedals I've ever played and across multiple amps too.
But damn the real thing is so damn good

I noticed there are two versions of the red and blue pedals: an older larger enclosure one and a new smaller box one. Do you have a preference or do they sound very similar?

I will never really understand the Bogner appeal. This sounds better than any Bogner I’ve heard, but this one still seems too loose.
Guess I am a VHT/Fryette guy through and through

    • @blackzeb

Bogners always have had a looser sound than VHT/Fryette. I’ve owned multiple amps from both builders and wished I could mix them for a hybrid, if that makes sense.
