- We've covered the basics and broad strokes of essential motorcycle camping gear, but what are those "everyday use" type items that you take on every camping trip? Stuff that is incredibly useful but maybe not as obvious as things like tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, etc...
I take my possibles pouch on every trip, and inside is a collection of essential camping gear that I take on every camping trip. These pieces of motorcycle camping gear are useful for all types of camping, whether you're motocamping, car camping, or even backpacking. This camping gear I take on every trip fits into a small mesh pouch that makes it easy to throw in and take along no matter where or when you're going camping. This pouch includes things like a sturdy knife, multi tool, toilet paper, coffee making supplies, a trowel, wet wipes, headlamp and tent lamp, bug spray, sharpening puck, and more. I never leave on a motorcycle camping trip without these essential pieces of camping gear.

Small tip: get an old (credit) card and wrap duct tape around it. It is really flat and low profile, yet ducttape is always useful.
AWESOME!!!!!
“It’s ribbed… for your satisfaction…” 😂
Your kit is your kit and everyone can use it as a starting point if they don't know what to pack. Having multiple sources of ignition is so critical. I keep 2 lighters, and a flint/steel as my emergency backup. Don't forget to start a fire at home so you know how to before you need to do it.
We are Excellent and you are Excellent to us.
I'll be riding my bike to north Carolina. About 2.500 miles. I started motorcycle camping in 1972 .and I'm in my 70's .
I am 62 and hope to still be moto camping in my 70's
Excellent! I would add some Gold Bond. Great for powdering inside tire for tube changes and also great for chafing from long rides lol. Powder that donut!
That's a good tip.
And a quick spray in the boots before and after riding does wonders for foot/ shoe funk.
Gallon sized ziplock bags go on all my trips. Great if you have wet clothes or dirty items that you don’t want touching other items. They’re easy to replace once soiled.
Personal kit: Add ear plugs. Whether it's the wind thrashing your tent, a racoon in a tree, or a riding buddy that snores, ear plugs can help you get a better night's sleep. Fire kit: Add a 12 x 12 inch square of aluminum foil. Folded it is very small and weighs nothing. When the ground is wet and so is your wood, the Al foil provides a barrier from the wet ground and keeps those embers glowing while the kindling catches fire. Best fire starter ever: A one inch long piece of road flare wrapped in wax paper. Burns very hot and gets wet wood burning.
Hey Dork Great Video! Thanks for sharing your craft. One suggestion is put your bug spray in a zip lock baggie so it doesn't contaminate your kit (i.e. silverware or drinking cup) if it sprays/leaks accidently. I had a can get "triggered" in a bag of items it made a mess.
Yeah I should probably do that.
This is genius, thanks for the tip!
Good stuff Ben. I carry dryer lint for fire starter. Have bag on the dryer and my wife saves it. No need to soak cotton balls in alcohol. Works really well and packs tight.
Great job! Perhaps you could make a downloadable checklist version so it could be customized or built upon for individual tastes. Just an idea. Thanks
Your videos are great! I discovered you when researching the new KLR and I'm sure glad I did. Bought my KLR Friday and I don't know if I would have actually done it without your videos. So far it's awesome! Keep it up!!
Enjoy your new ride!
Man I gotta up my game, this set up is fantastic! My brother and I are planning a multi day trip this summer, I really need to get my kit sorted before then it's looking pretty bulky right now.
Very similar to mine but I have some S&P, a mountain house meal (never know if you have to stay an extra day, food goes bad, etc). I pack a bit different though, I have a "kitchen" pack which would include things like silverware, cup, etc a "tent" pack which would include things like the GSI light, pillow, headlamp, power bank, etc. This way if I stop for lunch or to cook a meal I grab the kitchen pack, once the tent is setup I throw the tent pack in there, etc. Great video! Oh almost forgot I keep a thermacell in my kitchen pack as well! stop for lunch might need it haha.
EXCELLENT Dork!
May I suggest notepad and pen so you can make notes about anything you find you are missing👍🏻
Facemask as a blindfold.I never thought of that. You sir are a GENIUS!!!
I can't take the credit for the idea, but I'm happy someone shared it with me.
Love the videos. Something I always carry into the backcountry is a water filter or other form of purification.
Another great necessity to have in your kit is Hand sanitiser as it doubles up and a nifty fire starter aid.
Being out in the wilderness alone is a true test of a mans grit and resolve. The harsh weather and those curious critters always looming in the background or even in plain sight. In that environment sometimes what you don’t have is just as important as what you do have, especially when it comes to accessible food for foraging big-foots or lesser beasts. Its a good idea to stow your food items in containers that don’t waft their yummy smells throughout the camp. Tempting as it might be I recommend not bringing your favorite chips, pizza or chimichangas into the tent for a moonlight snack. I’ve never had to wrestle a Bigfoot from inside a tent but odds are the endings going to leave a guy looking like a shrimp pressed to the inside of a Vietnamese Summer Roll. Great video.
One of the most practical and insightful videos I’ve seen for a noob camper. Appreciate the effort and hope to grab a cigar with you somewhere on 2 lanes.
Great stuff!! I always have water purification with me as well.
That's the perfect amount of kit for me, in my head I'm a moto camper but in reality I'm a moto picnic man.
Nice, I like that collapsible cup and the see through mesh bags. I’m always hunting for crap!
Hey Dork…. Have you ever done any vids on basic of on-the-trail bike repairs? Change tires, fix broken chain, etc???
Nothing instructional but I do have one experiential video about tire changes czcams.com/video/Q2xsc4QfWus/video.html
Bright orange paracord has replaced all my tent and tarp guy wire cord. I was tired of tripping on them. I have a P38 on my keys as well as a few stashed in gloveboxes and backpacks.
Smart!
Flushable wipes. Never leave home without 'em. I gotta get some of those Coghlan's bags 🏍️💨
Love your videos, living in Hawaii I’ve decided to get a hammock with mosquito net and tarp. Less weight and space. There’s always a tree or two.
I am 53 and Loving my new KLR. Close to retirement and I am working on unplugging from our "Modern" society. All this is great info, I have ALOT to learn. As I get older I don't like being cold.. I hope to find some good info on Socks/clothing/layering... Thanks for sharing your adventures.. May the Force be with You.
Highly recommend wool base layers. I wear them basically all winter
roll of bounty paper towels. durable, reusable, can filter water, or use as kindle. electrical tape. love instant coffee on a chilly morning. Also cutting board. makes for a nice little in tent table.
It might sound dumb, but tweezers. Nothing is more annoying than a splinter while on a bike trip.
It's cool to see the different ways people do it .
Dude, I love your intro......im a subscriber from LA and even tho I don't have a enduro I love ur channel! Im a quad mostly dunes rider who is almost always in glamis or johnson valley (aka king of the hammers) I dream of the environment you enjoy and appreciate your content.......thank you!
Mr Dork, you are a man after my own heart, motobush crafty👍 thanks brother👍
You can have a water-purifier. A thing that cleans water from the outdoor you can drink or cook in if the water you bring runs out. Thanks for a great channel.
I now carry one after a scary day (lost, no phone, broken down, hot, no water). Only water I found was very dirty cow tank. I ride AZ and NM so water is an issue.
TY, just my 2 cents but if you are in the backcountry even on a day trip this would be really nice to have if you breakdown or whatever. Great kit.
That leatherman is really nice, I also have a morakniv. For bush-crafting mostly I use a Becker BK2 Campanion I highly recommend. It is full tang and it is a beast. You can really beat the shit out of it and split wood ect.
So you are using a sleep mask to sleep during the day and a head lamp to stay awake at night? 🖖fascinating concept🤔
Great “everytime carry”.
I personally would add a couple candles
That was awesome really helps those just getting started with moto camping
That was the hope! Everyone talks about tents and sleeping bags, but nobody mentions what you need for when you have to poop in the woods. ;)
@@DorkintheRoad Toilet paper = mountain money!
Throw in a Silky folding saw to process firewood.
If you haven’t seen it, check out Dave Canterbury’s videos on rope. He has a neat opinion on how to carry your hank of paracord.
Don't forget your first-aid kit Dork.
It's in a separate kit
Good stuff. Always enjoy, keep making more content! Sweetener is not bad for you.
Oh man the P38! We still can't get the good US Shelby ones in! Good video covering the not so talked about items.
The nipple lamp. I need 2 sir. For testing services.
Given your last video. Add something to do, some form of entertainment.
Love the vids, I also have a klr adventure.
This looks like everything u need to have a good time camping. I always grab a water filter n some tums to take with. Stomach ache + moto camping = a bad time.

I know one thing I would like in my bag for my upcomming motocamp trip.....the sweatshit I just ordered from you!!! Get cracking mister!!! Lol!!! Just kidding... Great video as always!!!
Very informative video….
Thank you for sharing this…
I have learned if you buy the best of the best, there's no need for redundancy. No need for 6 ways to make a fire for example. Too much extra weight for me. I understand the theory of "one is none, two is one" - but that only applies to firearms...I started using paper plates and bowls, I am not a fan of "doing the dishes" with my limited water supply. Do you have a first aid kit? Road ID is another good thing to put right on your helmet, make some decals with all your emergency contact info on it....
I've been searching your videos trying to find the answer, but what are you doing for keeping beverages cold, and food cold while travelling on the bike? Thanks!
Perhaps a solar powered backpack/bag to charge your phone or to have instead of powerbank?
I only camp when traveling so my focus is keeping it light.
Something I see missing (you might have it in your first aid kit) and that is any method to remove objects from your eyes.
Good Point. What I use is a sighting compass with a mirror and I keep a fresh book of paper matches in my first aid kit--the torn end of a clean paper match works great to remove grit from the eye. Some kind of mirror is also useful for intimate tick checks when solo.
That's a really good idea with the matches.
A lot of stuff to carry on a bag bike. My experience is after each
Any thoughts on travel humidors? Just got a Pelican r40 and a 69% Boveda pack holds my xikar cutter. Thanks
I am not a safety guru but have you ever augmented a first aid kit for motorcycle use? That would be cool?
I carry the surviveware small first aid kit. You can see it in the motocamping gear video I made a few weeks ago
Sam splints, Quikclot gauze, and emergency dental filling kits + dental wax and clove oil seemed like good additions for my moto camping first aid kit.
I think it might be helpful for you to checkout the Gerber brand Gator Saw III.. Amazing compact saw tool set for only $20
I have a Silly Gomboy I use and love
@@DorkintheRoad still, I enjoy your videos. Will you be at RMR this year?
👍👍👏
Thanks for all the video's you do as I want to get into this kinda camping as well, what do you recommend to filter water out of a creek if you don't think it's safe to drink?
Always filter water unless it comes from a municipal source. Giardia is no joke
@@DorkintheRoad Totally agree. You never know what died upstream.
Not if you have explained before but why do you call it your possibles pouch
You forgot Coors lite. You also forgot beer.
It’s be cool if you could get a partnership with battlbox just signed up for it got such cool stuff and a decent price!!
Flask of spirits, cigars… 🤓
First Aid?
Not in this kit. I have a separate first Aid kit.
Nintendo copyright claims everything, I'm surprised that intro hasn't been muted yet.
Ribbed lol
Good video, but you’re definitely not a minimalist. 😎
I've never claimed to be
Do you have an undetectable extension charm on that bag? You just kept cramming stuff in there 🪄
