How that late 00’s St Kilda side didn’t win a premiership is beyond belief. Amazing team with 0 reward
In 1913 St Kilda actually won the final against Fitzroy but the rule at the time if was if the minor premier lost the semi final or the final they could challenge the winner of the final to a grand final and Fitzroy won the premiership.
Every saint’s season seems to be the same
The replay was always a significant part of the drama that is Aussie Rules. I, for one, having played well over 350 games (not at AFL level, sweethearts), and played in replays, it is truly a test of the best.
Sadly, to me, it has now gone.
Throughout the history of all the football codes the logic of replaying a drawn game (when a winner is needed) has been the same idea: that the rules of the game are the same all season, and run for the same length. As such, in Aussie Rules you have four quarters of 20 minutes to win it, or you don't win.
This logic has progressively given way to alternative forms to find a winner on the day; Soccer has penalties, rlRugby League has the golden point, and Aussie Rules has extra time. But the AFL was just a little slow in adopting that for the Grand Final for reasons unknown.
For reasons unknown? Mate, everyone knows the AFL are money hungry. Why miss out on the opportunity to double revenue by having 100k people filling out the MCG again the following week? It was the stupidest rule ever. Thank god they changed it

They’ve only been around for 13 years though,
The TWO premierships that they missed, in order are;
1971 - Lead by 20 points at 3 quarter time. Hawks storm home with 7 goals to 3, to win by 7 points 😅
2009 - Lead by 7 points at 3 Quarter time. Geelong storms home kicking 3 goals 4 to 3 points.
2010 - Never lead till last quarter, copped a bad bounce, yes. I rate this Number 3 of the bad beats. 1st one with Fitzroy, it was the challenge finals system, that was the rules all clubs played under.
P.S. I am a Hawks member, 24 yrs paid up. Supporter since 75 or 76? Maybe earlier 😮.

Honestly, I've never really considered a side being the "worst" club. I go for the Hawks, and I think they're the best AFL side, but obviously, a ST Kilda fan would think that Saints are the best side. It's all about opinions, if you ask me. There isn't a "best" side overall... If you ask me, I would say Geelong is the worst side, but I reckon if you asked that same question to a Geelong supporter, there's a good chance that they'll say Hawthorn are the worst side. Idk if I'm being unusual or anything, but that's how I think. 🤷♂
Saints have always been a bit soft ….. never enough mongrel ….. can’t win without plenty of that ……

I agree St Kilda have been getting better but this isn’t about recent history. 27 wooden spoons, only making 8 grand finals and 1 premiership doesn’t stand up against clubs with the same amount of years established.

The saints don't have a culture what are you talking about. Dead colours, dead jersey, dead song, dead mascot, mid table for over a decade. If Footy teams were characters in a book, St Kilda would be the most boring one.
Hold on in what world are the Pies even in the conversation as the worst ever when no other team have won more flags and they have won the most games easily in history? Even the 27 flags they lost they were still better than every other team bar one in those particular seasons. You can say a lot of things about the pies but being one of the worst teams ever is not one of them.

The University club Joined the (then) VFL in 1908 and have NEVER won a final in 116 years, I'd call that rather poor.
