Back when wot was actually fun
was it ever tho
Dude i only thought about playing wot and did not think about pussys like now... this time was incredible...
@@Ralfatus actually.... It was fun, not many premiums and if there were like Loowe they were fairly balanced
It was tech tree tanks vs tech tree tanks
@@Ralfatus it 100% was
And no gold spam.@@MrTrool323
When maps werent just a tunnel for heavies, open field for others, and a sniping position near mid. The terrain actually made sense, and the 2 sides werent identical. Back when the maps had a vibe
Bushes and cover, too. I liked it better then . More fun.
Yeah i liked the idea of soft cover all over the map
I think map design is the thing most deteriorated over the years
Now this is the kind of content I enjoy paying money for
Lol
This was the peak of WoT. I started playing at 7.4 update and stopped when they intoduced the stun mechanic for artys.
i stoped a few years ago because of the powercreep of more and more powerfull premium tanks with no weakspots. it's no fun with such tanks in the game. some of those tier 8 tanks are even stronger as their tier 9 counterparts and even those would need gold rounds to penetrate.
premium tanks back in the day used to be balanced, not stronger as the ones you could research.
I stopped for around 18 months after the stun changes, that update was widely disliked, but it’s reasonably fun again nowadays
driving as a platoon of 3 kv-1s with the 122 mm was a lot of fun back in those days.
fan fact: 2 of us never fully aimed with it and still hit AND penetrated most shots with it. the one who did fully aim mostly ricoched or even missed or just hit the tracks of a one-shot target.
the true rissian bias of the game is: you don't actually aim the 122mm cannons, just shoot in the enemies general direction and the spirit of Stalin himself will guide your shell into the target.
back when both teams could chat with each other.
Komarin was absolutely brutal to play. So many memories from that map being an absolute camp fest.
I dont remember all that camping...
@@SadMadBadBoro all about that Island dominance, then it was a quick game, camping was not necessary on that map
I wish they would make maps like how Tundra used to be. Seems like a lot of freedom and less of a lane driven design.
In Steel Hunter they do I guess
These kinds of maps would be more interesting than just schematical positions for certain classes
Yeah the old open map designs compared to shitfest corridors now... But hey, they're harder to navigate for braindead amoeba I guess.
@@MozzaBurger88 IMO these Steel-Hunter like maps would be probably more noob friendly as you go whenever the current situation lets you, not some sweatlords who know a spot. If you claim some better spot at the beggining then well here you go
the thing that is most astonishing to me is that "new tanks" like the marder 38t are this old already
Why do the projectile effects, gun sound and smoke upon firing look so much better in old world of tanks
High explosive was scary. When you get shot at because of a move it felt more punishing.
Reminds me of the good ol days with this game, didn't play from the very beginning but I was around when lights still got a 3 tier match spread. We did not use gold as much back then because the normal ammo was actually sufficient most of the time, then they saw the dollar signs and the rest is history. RIP T18, one of the most hilarious experiences wot ever had to offer. When pretty much everyone in a game played them, it was a good time.
T 18 my favorite fun Tank, i dont no why they chanched his funtion as Arty. 😢 No one stay long on tier 2....
Reminds me of my beginnings.
i started in october 2011 with an invite code for the T2 Light tank.
At the time, the American line ended with the T30
Also the KV still existed which could use the KV-2 Turret with the 152 or the T-150 107mm guns at tier 5. And on the way the tier 4 T-28 could use an 85mm.
But also the matchmaking spread was horrendous when you could meet tier 8s with your tier 3 tanks.
My favorite tank back then was the SU-76 (without M back in the day).
Also i loved maps like Dragon Ridge or Severogorsk.
I remember platooning in AT-2 it was a "TANK", no problem holding W straight against tier 6
I started wot when WT E100 tech tree just got released and man I remember playing my medium III backward because I wanted to have a rearmounted turret, I was 12~ at the time.
13:58 I actually remember a similar spot to that on the first version of Kharkov, where there were two half-tracks angled towards each other near the giant plaza that would launch you into the sky if you drove between them.
the m44 was the best arty player to ever exist cuz he actually used his left hand
all of them do, some to wank, some to drive
really interesting to see old maps were much more realistic. distances are look bigger, hills are steeper, plains are longer. wish that we can play on those maps today again.
I started around 2011 and this is the world of tanks I really remember.
All the maps they removed were the actually good maps...
I also have one of those snapshot memories on Komarin, funnily enough I really liked that map. It was aids to play way back when the Waffenträger line came out but it was the map where I got my first Acetanker on my beloved T-54, back when it could easily outbounce an E-75.
Man, memory hits hard...
The nostalgia is insane. I think i was like 8-9 yrs old, playing the same version from the video. Idk what was i doing on this game at 8 yrs old but i remembered so many things after watching this video. I remember researching the M3 Lee because i thought you could shoot with both guns after u researched it fully. I remember the Hetzer being a absolute beast, also the Panzer IV H as well. I remember wanting the KV- 1S so bad bcs it was so good while i was stuck playing the Churchill tank of the same tier, which was a way worse heavy. I remember going in the custom lobby on the map with the big bridge in the middle (ik its still in the game but i cant remember its name to this day) to try and jump on the middle portion of the bridge which was separated with my M5a1 Stuart or smth like that (my fastest and also only light tank). I also remember having the At2 and the Amx40 (medium) or smth like that which were impenetrable back then. Also, i remember hating the Amx Elc Bis bcs with certain tanks, if he would be close enough to your tank (basically hug your tank), u didnt have enough gun depression to shoot him, i remember that happening to me once and hating it forever since. So, so many memories coming back at once, its overwhelming. Cant forget people who couldnt be asked to wait for the enemy team to find me (last player so i was hiding as far as possible) so they would type in all chat my position so the game would end faster (in situations like 1v10, not every game), i remember playing the Pz IVb arty like a normal antitank bcs to me it made more sense idk why, and i cant forget trying to convince my friends to switch from Microvolts (a game like overwatch or smth like that, cant remember it clearly) to a damn tanks game and nobody would want to, i was the only one obsessed with tanks from my friend group. Nah man thats too much nostalgia from one single video thats crazy.
I loveed old wot soo much, I remember as a kid i was allowed to play only on weekends, so i remember when i came back from church on sunday and got to play wot for an hour on my old pc, such a beautiful time, I wish i could go back to it and feel it once more 😌
I remember the joy when you unlocked a tank back then... I don't feel that anymore
Creepy how similar my experience starting out was. My dad showed me Jingles videos before I started playing the game and they got me hooked. I don’t remember my first video but I distinctly remember one where this Hellcat tried to jump on an ISU and killed himself in the process (on Mines I think), something Jingles called a “cunning plan.” I thought that was the funniest shit ever as a kid. Didn’t really remember Komarin very well before this video, but I can think of the tank traps and getting my shit kicked in there as the stock IS-3. Also playing that map in the BT-5(?) and asking my dad what “wtf” meant after seeing it in the chat, probably while stuck behind those tank traps. I think my favorite tank was the Pz I C. I was never good but I don’t remember regularly not having fun until several years after I started. Oh well. All good things must come to an end. Thank god I stopped being a loner kid before the game really went downhill.
And I don’t think I EVER got sixth sense on ANY crews. I remembering seeing it in CZcams videos back then and being like “huh that’s weird” and did nothing about it for years. Just didn’t fuckint care lmao
Great vid man, such a nostalgia trip to see komarin and old tundra. I miss a lot of old maps like Dragons Ridge, South Coast, Sacred Valley, Windstorm, Northwest and the Winter / On Fire maps which was a nice touch.
This is made funnier to me because of how much Jingles hated the Lee. So it influenced how a lot of people thought of it, the worst tank in the game and such. So it's possible you may have thought the same.
I'd started off the game I think 1 year earlier than you at this point. I remember Komarin being "a new map" and I remember the Marder38t not being in the game initially, it got added in an update as an alternative to the Hetzer and I think it lead into the Waffentrager line, which back then had the infamous WT E-100.
But yeah, I gotta say, this is very nostalgic to watch. You know what I'd be curious if you can find? Old El Haluf. Old El Haluf is NOTHING like new El Haluf. It's one of the maps I vehemently hated because back in the day it was 2 hills opposite one another and hull down heavies were kings. I remember thinking that was the most annoying thing to play in this game cause it meant you had to constantly be aiming at weak spots in a very static fashion.
Flash forward to today... It's like every bloody map is old el haluf gameplay...
You are right, Marder-38t>Flak in a box>Nashorn>Sturer Emil>pancake waffentrager>...
But M3 Lee had the most OP gun at its tier (especially the HE rounds) it was just slightly more difficult in positioning to play and more as a TD because lack of turret and the high silhouette…
Most players can’t think for themselves which still is unfortunately true today and just repeat, follow what’s someone ie abit famous in pc game tells them … lol
10 years ago was around the first time I took a break from WoT, and then proceeded to play every other game besides WoT most of the time.
God, these were fun times.
And no, I'm not in my 50s, that'd be my dad who also played WoT until around 2013 lol
did you travel back in time and fk ur mom and now you´re your own dad and fucked up the entire timeline?
Could also include the old garage both premium and non prem ;')
One of my snapshots that I remember from those days is one shot full hp IS-7 kill with AP from GWE-100 arty from the other side of the map. He was on the move at full speed. And I blew his ammo rack. 😂
LOL dude the first video I ever saw of yours was the one where you guys were getting UE57s onto that top floor by pushing them into the wedge. Talk about nostalgia.
i bought a box version of this game, back in 2012, gold old times.
that free locust was a beast, for 1.5k gold I've picked T14, it wasnt best choicd back then with 91pen and 0 brain💀
I have those snapshot memories too. It's been a very long time since I played World of Tanks, but the OSTs, maps and gun sounds are so nostalgic. I had no idea why, but I started grinding all the LT lines than Heavies and Mediums, just because I thought I was going to grind every single tech tree in the game. I remember being in a Pz.1 C and shooting at the last enemy at mountain pass from far away, but friendlies got infront of my shots and me ending up teamkilling them and being banned for two days. Another memory I have was being in the Lunch with the 3cm gun unlocked and getting 4 kills. I remember myself shaking with excitement back then. Good memories.
The Vk 36.01 H was also really good back in like 2013. I started playing in May of 2011 and the KV was the most OP tank.
brings back so many memories, so much nostalgia. thanks chems
tbh i always liked the "gritty" look that came along with the worse graphics, for a kid it almost felt more realistic than the more detailed and smoother graphics we have now
Notice how most maps back then had smaller hills or rocks for side scraping and peaking rather than big hills for hull down. now it seems WG can only make a hallway map or a hull down map. there's not much variation. almost as if artificially changing the game to accommodate specific tanks.
Oh man, this takes me back to the good old days, 2013-2016 WoT was best imo.
I haven't played WoT in years but me and my dad started when I was a kid and I believe it was around 7.5, played through the introduction of actual physics (falling off cliffs), the artillery rework (stuns), graphics revamp, etc. The hit of nostalgia from this is crazy.
its amazing looking into old games and and memories like this, feels like an archeologist finding something.
Great video, thank you Chems! :)
I started playing the game around the same time so this was very fun to watch.
In that map you are playing as the Lee. Before they introduced the push physics many players would just block the bridge. 2 lights dead on the bridges would turn it into a cross fire match with no way to cap.
Reminds me of my beginnings, I started at the very patch that began the "New WoT Order" (9.16 or 9.17), I remember playing M3 Lee aswell. I also get the different vibe from maps, that the very same map that is now in HD seemed like it was at least upside down before 1.0. Also as you said some positions changed from just pile of rocks to some inventive stuff. I also reminded myself one snapshot from memory, going down the valley in swamp map and pasing by and M44, and I don't even remember the tank I was playing, maybe KV-1
On komarin you had to continously drive into those tank barrages to get through. Class didnt matter. Only weight affected how fast theyre going to break. I remember going through with my amx 40 back then after 10 or so seconds.
25:21 Bro! Exactly the same situation, about 1 lvl and 1st branch. I remember how good T67 and hellcat were
Direct fire arty was the ultimate thrill. I remember one-tapping an E100 that I caught in the back with a soviet arty that I can't remember the name of.
And that was even after the HE rework.
Way, way back when HE splash would always calculate damage as if it hit the least armoured plate of your tank regardless of if it was the closest to the point of impact or not because the line it draws to check what part got hit would ignore the rest of the tank and simply connect to the weakest plate no matter what. As you can probably guess it is supposed to stop at whatever plate it hit first and this is what the rework fixed.
and the KV having the 152 and 107mm.
and the IS-4 and maus slapfights.
and the obj. 704 being an invisible death star.
Good memories. I'm happy I was made to quit after being so disappointed in the World of Warplanes test. I'm less happy about getting hooked on War thunder as a substitute.
And World of Warships can dangle. I got to a T5 battleship and just got pincer struck by RTS torpedo bombers over and over until I saw the writing on the wall and bailed.
6:11 oh holy shit i recall old tundra topography I used to go there with TD just to guard the flank
I remember an insane carry that I failed in KV-1S in 2016 on Himmelsdorf (they capped out), it was even on my birthday
1:16 you are correct, the D-2-5T gun was the KV-1S gun. It's identical to the IS in terms of damage and pen, but with worse aiming stats.
I remember not understanding how tech tree worked at first so instead of getting a KV that my friend recommended i got a T-34 and was really confused after playing it a bit. Btw, those tank traps on komarin and some other maps were "force" based - basically you needed both weight and speed to destroy them
This really reminded me of the old days in which I played a lot of Blitz on my tablet. People were actually playing for fun back then...
13:58 YES.... oh shit, nostalgia....
Wot back then ❤, hahah and that humorous ending 😂. i actually enjoyed kv1s really much, it was a beast. I remember grinding tanks depending on the look, to be more exact, i went for the tech trees without even knowing what the hell am i going to play on higher tier and I somehow managed to find KV-1 (it was the prettiest “the tankiest - it resembles the tank the most for me, so I badly wanted😂😂” ) and is 7 was my first x tier. it was nostalgic.
I went for the tanks that had the biggest caliber guns 😂
Wow, no way! Look, I know this would be very hard to believe but I am pretty sure that this VK 20.01 next to you 1:16 was me. I swear it, I recognise that game because it was one of my first experiences playing on the same team as KV 1S and witnessing it's raw power right in front of me. And yeah, obviously I sucked bady at that game, not much to do on a tier 4 at the bottom.
It’d be great to see some older versions of maps. Sometimes you gwt these weird memories of a map that used to exist and then you realize it actually still currently exists but it’s completely different
I remember I used to write in the chat "we come in peace" to the enemy team and waiting for their response. Usually they wrote "sure/don't lie or we come in peace too" and it was funny chat and not toxic like it is nowadays.
23:00 this thing still can happen, I have seen a video from recent WoT, where guy drove an ELC EVEN 90 into the bunker on Siegfried Line xD
12:27 since a month i start and end the game with glhf and gg. 80% no responses. :(
i remember that in the past (i play since 2011) people really responded more! :(
i also liked friendly chatting with the enemy, laughing and congratulating them! gone :( :( :(
yeah, they really killed the atmosphere by cutting all chat
KV-1S was the funniest thing to ever exist
PZ1C was the BOMB.
i remember that one time i got stuck on studzianki in 2020 my elc even 90 got stuck in a concreate block and left only the turret sticking out
For me who started in 2011 with the game it’s pure nostalgia! Not playing anymore since 3-4 years
Back then my father was crazy about the kv1-s and me and my friends platooned for hundreds of battles in the ELC amx. 😊
Back before the view ranges outgrew the maps.
I had no replays, but i had like 300 screenshots from these times. Accidentaly deleted them when switching computers 😭
The AT 2 used to be something else.
200mm plating + 94mm howitzer = shitloads of fun.
But of course, according to WG, you're not supposed to have fun.
Whatever, thx for reminding me of that little beast, chems.
"This ain't no QB commentary I'll tell you that" omfg XD
Jeez the old KV-1S. I kinda forgot about it but that was definitely one of the main reasons "Russian Bias" became a thing. Until they finally stripped it of its fantasy IS/KV-122 gun.
Amazing how the game is relatively slow paced, easy to read, barebone graphics but pleasant gameplay.
I joined in 2012ish, 0.7.5 or so. If you're right, you joined post-Great-Arty-Nerf... The best patch to ever be released in the whole of World of Tanks. The legendary 0.8.6. Lest we forget. Feeling OG right now.
Old Erlenberg is a must have in that next nostalgia video! Back when that map was fun 😢
fun fact: my fist ever top gun in this game also was in a Lee. Although, it was late September of 2011. Yeah, even worse graphics, no physics, etc...
M3 Lee had insane dpm back in the day when it could use gun rammer. It was the low tier E 25
4:55 Definitely, these days you can get like what, 3? 4 crits? Assuming you have enough hp to tank it, that is quite frequent, imagine having this much damaged modules back in the day in every round
fun fact, world of tanks blitz has kv-1s as researchable vehicle and it has the same IS style turret and the 122mm gun... while the kv-85 it's a premium vehicle with only the 85mm gun
Old maps were great. I absolutely loved the NorthWest Map. Very entertaining.
This brings back the memories
so its time to try and watch my 2011 replays.
My kingdom to get the AT 2 returned to when it had actually good armor 💪
Good old KV-1S, the tier 6 that I could still do top gun in tier 8 matches lol
I'm so old I remember the Marder 38T as being new in the game.
I remember it well, gold ammo cost gold currency and THE OLD VICTORY THEME
The KV1S was busted, you could destroy your own tank with two shots
Artillery was also quite punishing in terms of damage
I never remember the games with high kills, but I remember vividly the handful of games where I absolutely ate shit and choked (aka got outplayed) in a 1 vs x situation.
on god bro, 10 years ago I had a lot of fun in this game, and now all I get is rage issues lol
i remember those days some crazy wild times.
Saddest for me was when you mentioned that bug on Ruinberg. I miss these things like mountain climbing, getting to secret spots, bugs etc. It's not that fun when you have to follow strict rules about how to play your game.
Remember when wot had the updated physics where you could actually move up and down ledges and such and there were barely any invisible walls? Me too. That was literally peak wot. Even competitive wot was fun to watch due to them performing new climbs every season and full clans just training on maps to see if there were any new possibilities.
oh man i miss this game from 10 years ago
My account is from late 2012 and i clearly remember this KV1S, at the time the team with the most KV1S often wins, the gun sound was also very different from the other making it the true alpha sigma lone wolf motivational tank of all time
Thats it I reinstalled the game fuck you
20:05 there was also the toolbox
8:31 ahah the famous "s" word in chat 🤣 nostalgia
Heck yeah...old kv-1s with some 40 km/ and 390 alpha...
If the game was online in this version (inlcuding chat) i would still play it. Why don't they charge a server fee and give us a classic version, or different servers for older versions?
Idk if someone remembers old clan wars.. It was like a mix of tanks from tier 5 to tier 10, what ever highest tier you had you took to cw. I remember winning a teritory on global map with jagdpanther and everyone getting 50gold from clan commander as a reward..
20:39 The reason you wont even take chances against that spg is because it has been engraved into our minds that spg's are scary and can actually one shot you with that hp
I wish I had some of my old replays. I wanna see how bad I was. I didn’t get good until I had played almost 10k battles and started playing with other good players.
ngl i only knew abt wot back in 2016,never actually played it until 2021,pretty cool to see how wot was back then as a new player
prime wot was when there was the tier 5 KV with the 107mm gun
Man I miss the kv1s
KV-1S used to be a menace back in the day.. Back then 390 Alpha was hella abusive, especially when meeting Tier 5s
Ey chems, I still have 2 livestreams on youtube from when I was literally either 12 or 13 from world of tanks, streamed off of google hangouts of all things lmfao. I used to play at 999 ping
Forgot to mention it was budderifictnt (Dont use it anymore)
good old times bombing around these maps with mah kv2
man i remember getting my first ace in the m3 lee back in 2016
video about old map versions would be great ! you'd be the first. I recently wanted to search for old versions of maps but it couldn't be found, only some old replays that wouldn't be showing the whole map obviously.
edit : wow people talked so much more back then. a game with this much chatter would be crazy nowadays.
Another great video by Jingles
