It's crazy just how much work goes into making a battery this big, always knew it was a timely job but didn't realise it was this labour intensive. Makes me wonder how many cells are in my 'tiny' 52v20ah triangle battery... The more I watch battery build vids the more I want to make one myself, but to be fair I don't have the electrical confidence to attempt it... Damn, I cant even wire up my frickin sabvoton 7245m to my stupid voilamart kit, really mad with myself as the damn controller cost me £180 and I feel like ive just wasted my money
@@E-bikeguy it's a Voilamart Kit, when I wired it up the throttle I twisted and when the rear wheel began to spin the goddamn peddles spun forward too whacking my leg (which really damn hurt and I was hopping round my kitchen cursing like hell 😂 lol) but I couldn't work out why the damn freewheel cassette was locking on, 'cos in effect Tommy I think that's what it was doing, it seemed 2 x as powerful as the stock 30+1amp Voilamart controller but the damn peddles spinning at the same time as the wheel scared me so much I had to put the old stock Voila controller back on... I've since done the shunt mod on the Voilamart controller and it's better but it's bugging me that I'm stuck with this Sabvoton controller that I can't figure out... I bet if you were here it would be on in no time lol... I'm gunna keep watching more controller vids to see if I can figure it out.. I'm wondering does the RED wire from the "48V-72V Light Power" lead (off the Sabvoton controller) have to be connected to my battery Red positive wire? Also is the "Low Brake" wire the purple/black wires do they need to be connected to my brake levers to cut off the rear wheels power when braking? The wires I'm not using will be.. "Alarm"(it's not capped off, should it be?) "Reverse 0V" "E-ignition" (this has a cap on it) "Speed Limit" (the 2 blue wires) I put a small switch on these wires on my other controller so I could put it on these wires.. The wire/s I'm confused about is the Red&Black 48-72v Light Power The "Pas" I ain't decided on yet but it's not a probs as I know how the wire this, also the 3 red, white and black "throttle" wires I'm fine with as I think my throttle is red, green, and black and I'm sure the white wire goes to the green, and red to red, black to black... It's the "48-72v light power" I'm confused over (and possibly the "alarm" as it may need capping off?) I'm not sure if I seen some CZcamsr saying the red wire (off the 48-72v light power) has to be wired direct to my batterys positive (red, I think) wire but it's a slightly thicker gauge wire (but not 10gauge like the red, black(battery) and green, blue-purple,yellow motor phase wires as these are the 10gauge(I think) thickness... Just got me super baffled as to why when the rear wheels turning so are the damn peddles cos if it happened when doing 30mph it would snap my legs and probably kill me😢
@@E-bikeguy erm, ok I'll try rewire it all up again, maybe just maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me but I could've sworn the wheel was turning the proper way to propel the bike forwards (...but you might be right, I may have to change the phase wires (the 10 gauge yellow, green, blue) to instead blue to blue, yellow to green, green to yellow until I somehow get it to work... Think I'll attempt at the weekend when I've a spare 4-5 hours cos I've wrapped all my wiring up with electrical tape it literally takes about 1-2 hours just to carefully unwrap it all without damaging the wiring 😂 lol... Cheers Tommy I'll let you know how I get on over the weekend... Also do I need to run the red wire (of the "48-72v light power" controller wires to the positive on my 52v battery??? I wonder if I needed to do this as I think I seen someone say you gotta do this on their vid, and what even is the "48-72v light power" wiring even for Tommy? I initially thought it was for wiring to front and rear brake lights etc? I just don't get what it means by "light power"?
Good work , I waiting for my 72200 controller , you think 40ah is good range for 200amps ? Im not sure because of the 200amps but you have more experience

I’m sorry but I wanna make sure I understood correctly, what cells are those that you said you’re using? Looking for the best bang for my buck I can find.
Glue gun snot. The sign of a quality build everywhere........ You do everything else ok then do that. Please for the love of {whatever} use cell separators, they hold better and allow airflow stopping a hot cell heating it's neighbour and in the event of a bad thermal event it slows the spread.
Hi mate love the videos. I would like to build a battery. I'm not cluedup enough yet . Could you do a videoor have you got one explaining the paralleland series etc . Also how there are wired up
Where do you get the supplies for building a battery? I have built my own e-trike from a VEVOR adult folding trike and an eBay front hub motor kit, so I'm quite capable of building a battery. I just am finding it difficult to find the parts.
@E-bikeguy thanks, brother. I found it on another of your videos. The one where you are building a 60-volt, which happens to be what I need for my enclosed mobility scooter. How do I determine if I can run my motor on 72 volts safely?
How can 60v 40ah battery pack. Do 320A 🤔 Is there something I'm not seeing. Should only be capable of doing 80A. Without causing the cells damage. Do you have 4 in parallel = 320A
would u be willing to make a custom battery to fit my crew dart v2 im planning on doing a bac 2000 or a sabvoton controller and a 5000w qs 205 but i need a long range battery that would fit the frame please get back to me
Amazing upgrade if not a little dangerous, but since your dealing with lithium ion cell's, can I ask an important question , since you might have a unique perspective on it: How safe is it to actually carry a spare lithium battery with you say on the rear rack? When I say safe, I mean safe as in the road vibration does not directly compromise the integrity of the cells and the battery catches fire (even if not in active use while the active battery still has some juice left in it ) It might seem like a dumb question to some people, but after I saw this video, where the E-scooters , (and some Ebikes) exploded and caught fire, even while ''parked'' sort of freaks me out, in fact in some of the fires presented, the batteries appear to not even be ''charging'' so why the hell would these battery's be dangerous just in a ''resting state '' and explode spontaneously without even in a charging state ??? see: czcams.com/video/7piuJFNvGqs/video.html Top 10 E-Bike & E-Scooter Battery Explosions Caught On Camera!!
Well I will tell you this, my battery is in a case and where the battery rest on the frame there is extra padding to protect it from damage. I ride my ebike off road a lot and so far no problems 😊 so putting one on a rack shouldn't be a problem you will be fine
So what do you think might be going on when you see even some of these batteries just spontaneous explode? The first E-bike explosion was just that, just there parked and appearing not even charging, (is it possible some of the cells can be of such poor quality, no extra pressure from the road vibration, or wrong electrical input is necessary, we've got enough crap to worry about in this lifetime as it is, without wondering if our Ebike batteries are ticking time bombs!) P.S. I personally do not trust the UL certification process involving E-bike battery's, but that's another topic for another day)
@flolou8496 that's crazy, I think that one of the cells went into thermal run away due to low quality cell, then you have short not enough padding rubbing on frame , bypassing the bms then over discharging a battery, then using the wrong charger too. All this plays a factor in why a battery just go up in flames. You know? So when a person like me decide not to use a bms on the battery, you have to build the battery around the controller not the controller around the battery lol💯
@@E-bikeguy ... sure the con. pulls not more than the batt allows.. can do it yeah but there is no short circuit protection bruh, even cheap BMS can read voltage of each Group. that's for LONGterm use. important when it goes to safety also no Temp. protection.... on someone whos already knowing what they are doin great but that is for your son ?? cmon man u shoud know better

I think you said you are 6'7. I'm a short guy next to you at 6'3. I recon you are around 250 or better. This bike did 54mph with you on it. Your kid will probably hit over 60.
I don’t use a bms either. Here’s something I saw a few years back and Iwant to share it.. Get some 3/4” thin wall pvc pipe for 18650 cells, 1” for 26650 cells. Get button cells for better contact, or put small magnets in between the connections .No wires and no nickel strips needed… just stack the cells inside the tube and allow room for the end caps to screw down and tighten them together.drill holes in end caps and add small nuts/ bolts with matching electrical eyelets for the parallel connections.I charge and check each cell for balance before sliding into the tubes. I extract them for occasional balance checks by using a telescopic magnet to pull them out the back end of the tube. I’ve used several variations for quick disconnects but won’t go into all that. Hope you get the picture.
Hello again. I commented once before asking how much it would cost to have you build me a 3000 watt Ebike from my Bianchi center pull. I need at least 50 miles at full throttle over some very, very big hills for range, so I need to carry some capacity. I don’t know if you ever answered ma, as I forgot which video I left the comment on. I wish you had a small site like citizencycle has, and you could feature an area for potential customers to communicate with you. As far as my idea for battery storage, how about this? Advance Auto now sells dIe hard batteries, and for $115 with exchange you can get a 12 volt 45.6 pound marine battery. If you put that in series, I think, (I forget), with a $50 Amazon 36volt battery, using a Bolton parallel 2-Battery combiner, as described in numerous CZcams videos, you’ll have a 48volt complex battery (if this would (if this would work) with seemingly huge capacity. Is there a hole in my thinking? We’re it not for the limits of the battery combiner you could stack another 12 volt for more capacity, and maybe put them I a tiny trailor if you don’t want to load the bike more, or use a 48 volt battery in the complex to make 60, or 60to make 72. It sounds like this may fry the combiner, though. And it is only limited to a 30 amp controller, so somebody needs to make a more robust combiner. Your thoughts?
awesome intro about the battery build, i had a question concerning cost from that supplier you mentioned at 18650 batterystore, are they economical and reliable?
Thats very risky to build that big battery with hot glue. Bicycle have a lot of vibrations. Hot glue will let go and battery will hold just on spot welds, and loose spot weld causes fire...
Man lol it's fine trust me it's my son's battery and he rides his bike like a dirt bike and not a scratch on it, in order for hot glue to let go if the battery was actually dropped from a really high place and you need to take in to account that the nickel hold it together not just hot glue
@@E-bikeguydunno maybe you have better brand glue because when i used hot glue it was holding pretty bad. I made 10s battery and it let go in 2 places after few chill rides in forrest. Now i always use plasic holders

Do you use A BMS on your battery builds, or does your charger keep it from overcharging ?
Yes in fact most ebike battery charger has a voltage cut off at full charge I have charger that I can set the voltage cut off at full charge
Nice battery, Do you save a lot of money building a 20Ah 48v or is it around same to buy one? I can buy a 52V 20Ah LG 21700 Lithium Hailong Battery for 48V 300-1500W for $346 how much does one cost to build? Thanks.
It's about the same but you using ih discharge cells tho
Hey bro just a question how much did that cost you to build the battery and by the way big up I'm from England
At that time I believe a month ago the 18650 was on sale for $1.50 280 cells plus materials was $630 and some change
Once again, I have another product question.do you know anything about the NB Power 135 mm., $621 80A controller, 3KW. 72v Wally World setup? This one is on narrower rims, while the following question is about a ft tire rim.
Also, I found the red “reply waiting” bell on my browser and found your previous answers. Where did you source the disk brake adaptor? As always, Thanks.
My first kit was a nb power 3000w kit 29in wheel 80a controller, but the brake adapter is on Amazon.
Ih man sorry to hear that what you having trouble with. I'll make a how to video
"Alarm"(it's not capped off, should it be?)
"Reverse 0V"
"E-ignition" (this has a cap on it)
"Speed Limit" (the 2 blue wires) I put a small switch on these wires on my other controller so I could put it on these wires..
The wire/s I'm confused about is the Red&Black 48-72v Light Power
The "Pas" I ain't decided on yet but it's not a probs as I know how the wire this, also the 3 red, white and black "throttle" wires I'm fine with as I think my throttle is red, green, and black and I'm sure the white wire goes to the green, and red to red, black to black...
It's the "48-72v light power" I'm confused over (and possibly the "alarm" as it may need capping off?)
I'm not sure if I seen some CZcamsr saying the red wire (off the 48-72v light power) has to be wired direct to my batterys positive (red, I think) wire but it's a slightly thicker gauge wire (but not 10gauge like the red, black(battery) and green, blue-purple,yellow motor phase wires as these are the 10gauge(I think) thickness...
Just got me super baffled as to why when the rear wheels turning so are the damn peddles cos if it happened when doing 30mph it would snap my legs and probably kill me😢
@mickyb.8014 It looks like you have everything right but the freewheel might be locked up, the peddle only spinning if the motor is turning in reverse
Probably got 140 cells in your battery
EVE 25P 18650 2500mAh 20A Battery, how many would you need for a 60volt but less hours, lets say 20 ah and howmany batt for 30ah ?
Good work , I waiting for my 72200 controller , you think 40ah is good range for 200amps ? Im not sure because of the 200amps but you have more experience
Oh yeah it is especially if it's a hi discharge pack but 40ah is pretty good for today's standard
@@E-bikeguy ok thanks ❤️
@Uwe342 no problem 😊
Question, when you install a new battery, do you do a new hall test or no?
No, no need to a hall test only when you put a different motor in then you need to do a hall test
He had a 200a sab controller already 😭
E-bikes don't sell well in Maryland i think it's because it's so hilly here. Every other street there's a hill to tackle. I've notice how flat it is there in your neck of the woods.
I’m sorry but I wanna make sure I understood correctly, what cells are those that you said you’re using? Looking for the best bang for my buck I can find.
Go on 18650 battery store.com to find the EVE cells 2.5ah 20a max
Glue gun snot. The sign of a quality build everywhere........ You do everything else ok then do that. Please for the love of {whatever} use cell separators, they hold better and allow airflow stopping a hot cell heating it's neighbour and in the event of a bad thermal event it slows the spread.
Hi mate love the videos. I would like to build a battery. I'm not cluedup enough yet . Could you do a videoor have you got one explaining the paralleland series etc . Also how there are wired up
Ok I can do a more detailed video on the parallel to series connection

Where do you get the supplies for building a battery? I have built my own e-trike from a VEVOR adult folding trike and an eBay front hub motor kit, so I'm quite capable of building a battery. I just am finding it difficult to find the parts.
Ok I get my cells from 18650 battery store.com
@E-bikeguy thanks, brother. I found it on another of your videos. The one where you are building a 60-volt, which happens to be what I need for my enclosed mobility scooter. How do I determine if I can run my motor on 72 volts safely?
Keep up the good work 💪
Thanks, will do! For sho🫡
At 27:41 I almost witnessed an accident lol .
I'm wondering what the next generation of batteries might bring, solid state etc, performance and range.
Lol that's a dang good question, I know mine is aimed towards performance and range 💯💨
That's a huge battery pack,no range anxiety.

It depends on what you referring to to.
why not use the 2170 size batteries?
At the time these 18650 are 2600mah and 20amps for only $1.50 I could not passed them up
How can 60v 40ah battery pack.
Do 320A 🤔
Is there something I'm not seeing.
Should only be capable of doing 80A.
Without causing the cells damage.
Do you have 4 in parallel = 320A
No lol 16s 16p 20a x16 is 320a continuous

For sho!!!! I couldn't agree more 💯
Amazing upgrade if not a little dangerous, but since your dealing with lithium ion cell's, can I ask an important question , since you might have a unique perspective on it:
How safe is it to actually carry a spare lithium battery with you say on the rear rack? When I say safe, I mean safe as in the
road vibration does not directly compromise the integrity of the cells and the battery catches fire (even if not in active use while the active battery still has some juice left in it )
It might seem like a dumb question to some people, but after I saw this video, where the E-scooters , (and some Ebikes) exploded and caught fire, even while ''parked''
sort of freaks me out, in fact in some of the fires presented, the batteries appear to not even be ''charging'' so why the hell would these battery's be dangerous just in a
''resting state '' and explode spontaneously without even in a charging state ??? see:
czcams.com/video/7piuJFNvGqs/video.html
Top 10 E-Bike & E-Scooter Battery Explosions Caught On Camera!!

@@E-bikeguy why cheaping out on this important unit ?

You should do 72 volts or higher
It's for my son's bike I can add to get 72v maybe later tho
Ok I hear ya email me at theebikeguy08@gmail.com we can discuss more about a build
awesome intro about the battery build, i had a question concerning cost from that supplier you mentioned at 18650 batterystore, are they economical and reliable?
Without a doubt 💯 they are very reliable that's where I get my cells from.
@bobikbobikowy5458 oh ok yeah bro I had really good luck with plus you can get more capacity in a small frame
