  • @christopherbradley5575
    @christopherbradley5575 Před 3 lety +2

    This isn't anything new. When I retired from Ft Bliss in 2012 there were 25 El Paso businesses on the list. Every US Army post has a consumer affairs office that makes recommendations to the post commander and can have a blacklist of businesses they don't want Soldiers to go to. It can be for any reasonable cause. It may be an apartment complex that isn't up to code. It can be a business that has a record of treating people unfairly or like this, it can be a place where dangerous things happen. I've even seen shady car dealerships end up on Military black lists. Businesses can appeal the decision and they can show improvements to be removed from the blacklist. Entering a blacklisted business is is a violation of a lawful order and is punishable under article 91 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice and can even land a Soldier in jail under the right circumstances but in 25 years, I never once saw it happen and the blacklist is very difficult to enforce. Basically, a Soldier would have to be involved in a serious, reported incident at the establishment in order for the chain of command to even find out about it or he could be reported by another Soldier. In El Paso, I seriously doubt that Military business in any establishment would be significant enough for the business to notice any big losses in revenue. All this being said, the Military does have the authority to take much more serious measures if they really want to keep Soldiers out of any establishment but I seriously doubt you'll ever see that happen.

This kind of s*** happens when soldiers continually get arrested, or are involved in criminal incidents at the same business. It has nothing to do with any city policy. I was posted at fort Carson in Colorado when I served, and they did the same thing to a few local bars where soldiers got into a lot of fights. One in particular was a bar frequented by local gangs. It had nothing to do with the business owner, or the local community. It was the Army that made the decision in Colorado Springs just like it's the Army making the decision in El Paso.
