Their output is well above any other company in the media entertainment industry, but the enjoyment of that output is probably the lowest it has been in a while. They're being desperate with Marvel, Star Wars is currently on fire, and the animation side is constantly having to share the spotlight with needless live-action remakes. That does not mean Disney has a strict rule against creativity and originality! Which are both foundations that made most older Disney movies and shows a big classic success to begin. Making new animated film properties that are more interesting than Strange World and Wish, and not trying to bury animated films by wasting money on live-action remakes would both be huge steps in the right directions, but they can not turn the whole tide in a couple of years.

It has an individual flare just like the movies that the corpos are carelessly dumping onto streaming services. It's how sequels SHOULD be made. Yet the suits at the top think it's only making money because it's a sequel despite LITERALY EVERYTHING ELSE saying that isn't the case. Exactly. It's for this precise reason that I'm of two minds about the success of Inside Out 2. On the one hand, it genuinely deserves the praise it's getting, because it's a good movie. On the other, we all know they're just going to take the wrong message away from this. So many sequels are in production right now between Pixar and Disney, we're essentially heading into a whole sequel era that we're going to be stuck in for years. Aside from Elio, I don't think there's a single original story in production from either studio right now. It's going to be all sequels from here on out for the foreseeable future, and that's worrying - not only because it's preventing original stories from being greenlit and given a chance, but also because sequels always have a chance of tarnishing the legacy of what came before. It may sound kinda weird to say this, but Disney is doing with its franchises the same thing they did with Power Rangers in the 2000's.
Context: In the early 2000's Disney bought Power Ranger from Saban, proceeded to not market it, and tried to end it multiple times (Wild Force (their first season), Dino Thunder, Operation Overdrive, Jungle Fury and RPM)(yes they tried cancelling it 5 times).
Each season the executives would make budget cuts, dismiss staff requests, and justify it with "Power rangers only was good in the 90's and doesn't have any appeal anymore" and, after they bought Marvel, with " We already have a toy franchise for boys in Marvel, why would we support Power Rangers ?" (actual quote from an executive) .
However, since the team involved with Power Rangers was very dedicated, they would innovate and create new solutions, resulting in good ratings, which, in turn, made Disney not cancel Power Rangers, but every time when a new season was greenlit, executives would do the same things all over again with the objective to run the franchise to the ground.
The signs for this Disney quality issue were always there, as a company, Disney has the habit of buying intellectual properties, running them to the ground with bad marketing and executive meddling, and then abandoning them afterwards (Never forget that PIXAR started out as an INDEPENDENT studio and only was integrated/bought into Disney in 2006).
The worst part is that their solution to this problem isn't to reflect on their business practices, but to buy other franchises and make the same mistakes over and over again. And because they have the money/monopoly over the industry, they can keep this awful circle alive.

Yeah man because power rangers of the 90s used to appeal to the type of people that were born in this time when I first watched it I don't really hate the power rangers like that at all it just never grew on me like that nor I didn't know Jason David Frank's death but you know what power rangers could focus on now they can focus on making cartoons about them or even a power rangers anime or especially a reboot that is made for PG-14 to rated r where we are no longer just stop to episodes that don't go anywhere or characters never actually developing we would have something akin to what DC and marvel has made for their characters that they are more than just a 1D character because after all a 3D character has much more complexities then a 1D unchanging character because that's what most power rangers in the 2000s to the present was after that they just recycle the old formula until it lost its appeal and I would even recommend reading the power rangers comics from boom studios and they did a great job of giving them a continuity making their characters much more complex and actually adding tension to their stories and even made their universe/multiverse much more interesting that all the shows we have pale in comparison

RPM was exclusively to their block as Jetix/Toon Disney became Disney XD at the time it was released. I'd compare this to their "straight to video sequels" era. Mass production with as little effort put into the products as possible, desperately trying to turn a profit. The difference is they weren't pouring the GDP of small countries into every production back then.

    • @AuraLeafstorm
      @AuraLeafstorm Před 19 dny +14

The difference is those direct-to-video sequels were being produced by Disneytoon/DTVA, not the main studio. The main studio was still coming out with high-budget original content with each release. Because of that, the direct-to-video sequels were all easily ignorable; they weren't replacing anything, and the fact that they also never went to theatres means they left less of an impact on the cultural zeitgeist. Nowadays they're typically only referred to collectively, as people reflect on how bad they were. The only ones that tend to be talked about individually are the ones that people actually kind of like - The Lion King II and 1½, Aladdin and the King of Theives, An Extremely Goofy Movie, Stitch Has a Glitch, etc.
The era we're currently entering has the potential to be so much worse, because now the sequels are being produced by the main studio. Now the sequels ARE replacing production and release slots that would have otherwise gone to original stories. In fact, there seem to be no original stories in production at all right now at Disney, only sequels. That means it'll be years before the studio releases an original story again. We're entering the sequel era.
Even Pixar is shifting towards focusing more on sequels now, although they still have a few original projects in the works (Elio, Hoppers, Win or Lose).

They think its possible to engineer a formula that guarantees everything they make will be successful but thats not how the creative process works. Theres always a risk and good likelihood that the content they make is going to fail, but for whatever reason they're way too scared to take risks. It doesen't even make sense, since they're argubaly in the best position to take creative risks and potentially make a wildly successful movie/tv show in the process, but instead they try to play it safe and this is the result.

it sucks that corporate zombies like that are on charge of CREATIVE and ENTERTAINMENT companies. Art is all about innovation, about breaking the boundaries and doing something new, art is about revealing unique perspectives and exploring human imagination. Good art is not repeatable, you have to innovate based on the current trends. There isn't one specific formula that will make something succesful, it will depend on the needs of each era.
Look at Ultrakill, or even Faith. In an era where most videogame companies only care about graphics and predatory microtransactions, New Blood Interactive manages to find MASSIVE success by publishing videogames with PSX and even Atari-like graphics, very unconvential gameplay styles and jarring storylines.
Kevin Lerdwichagul, one of the CEOs of Glitch Productions, once stated during a livestream that their secret to success is to "simply let the animators do their jobs. Just give them the resources and creative liberty, they know better than I do. I just let them do their thing and I don't intervene" or something along those lines. Though weirdly enough, unlike Iger, Eisner even at his worst and most money-grubbing still tried to keep the "magic" façade as best he could within the company. It really is ironic that the studio ousted him for quote "diminishing the integrity and quality of the brand" with his decisions, despite how much money they were making, and yet his successor seems determined to actively spit in the Disney family's face for ever trying to fight for that.
Even more ironic, him coming back to the brand after Chapek in order to "maintain his legacy" ended up resulting in the most creatively bankrupt and loathed future for the Disney company. Seriously Cartoonshi, you want a wild read? Check out "Disney’s wildest ride: Iger, Chapek and the making of an epic succession mess"; you'd be surprised how much of what you've said here are knock-on effects directly tied back to the pure comedic incompetence on display in that article.

My idea for a Disney movie; A brother and a sister wants to help their sick mother but doesn't know how. The kids are suck into a magical world where everything they imagine becomes true. At first, both are happy and imagine talking animals; became friends with them. The two are slowly forgetting their mother. The animals remind the kids of their parent, both leave the magic world. The sibblings learn that being with the people you love is what matters! There's no villain, just good animation and music as well as a cute message about family; it's in 2D too!

IMO, Disney just doesn’t have the same energy that they have like before. If you compare Disney during the 1990s, 2000s, and the early 2010s to now, the energy the company had back then felt magical because it felt like they knew what they were known for that was animation. From the animated movies being the forefront, Pixar, the direct to video sequels, and even thier animated shows. Even when they had live action content like Pirates of the Caribbean, and the live action Disney channel shows had that magical energy that Disney was known for but animation was something they were known for.
Whereas from mid 2010s to now, they are just known as the company that owns Star Wars, Marvel, their live action remakes, and anything owned by 20th Century Fox, with a mouse for a mascot. Meanwhile, their animated movies and Pixar are just treated like second rate. Disney Channel seems like the only thing that is making animation the forefront since most of their current shows are animated, but still

I've seen the trailer for Moana 2 a few times, either because of theater previews and what not, and I cannot for the life of me remember a single thing from that trailer because it is so much like the first one, and I think it's because the first Moana's story was already explored well enough that there's really nothing much more to go off of.
