- Check out this slide show of Pete's Earthship build in Crestone, CO. Thanks to all that have helped over the years! Saguache County, CO is still a pocket of freedom so come build an Earthship if you're called to do so! No building codes! #crestone #baca #earthship #alternativebuild #offgrid

You All are amazing builders and helping our planet ❤️ I would love a earthship home ❤.
Thank you!
Can’t wait to start building this summer near you both! I’m hoping scoria bags, but Jimmy is still leaning towards straw bale haha
Fantastic, so cool to see in a slide show! Cheers!
Thank you!
Septic is turning into costly thing. And lost where I was gonna pull a camper or motorhome in at. My property is really wooded. Toasted my chainsaw. Huge dry leaning white pine around 30 inch diameter. Been like that since I bought property. Biggest tree on it. Spent a week getting it cut out of trees and into 12 foot sections held off ground by logs. I started trying to cut some 16x16 post. Biggest I can move up the ridge. Almost got one side off and saw shut down. The muffler was glowing. Piston looked like someone took a fill to it. Only a 65cc and not much rpms. Got a 92cc now close to 10000 rpms. Free timbers still cost.
Hopefully the magicians stop by for a visit sometime soon! 😊
Hope so!
Do you guys put Radon pipes in the floors? Being up here in CO, should be doing that. I want to start building an Earthship on my property soon, but thinking about doing it out of Earthbags.
Not pipes but radon/vapor barriers under the slabs... down in the flats or grants we have mostly sandy soil with low radon levels but just a few miles away on the mountain side there's pretty high levels since it's so rocky. Good luck on your build! Earthbags are great too! We actually have quite a few scoria bag buildings here which have a much higher R-value per inch than just rammed/tamped Earthbags. We did a few videos on our friends current build of them and can check them out under the playlist.
Killed it!!
Thanks!
jah mon!
It looks great! Will this be your first winter living in it?
Thanks! Yeah I think this is 4 winters now... Started the build in spring of 2017 so the pictures are over about a 5 year timeline
Nice. I thought about using i joist for rafters. But snow load means i joist would of needed to be 3.5x16 32 feet long at 134$ each plus delivery. So going 2x12 at 25$ each and can only span 15'7" with them. So for about half the cost of i joist. Due to pitch and snow load. Wood over 16 feet cost almost double but can find 20 foot lumber sometimes at good prices. Already was gonna put middle bent in timber frame for support and loft. Timber frame because holds more weight and less wood cost. Each of 9 post needs to hold around 10000 lbs for 70 psf roof. It does take some labor to square notch everything. I gullam x2 2x12 to make loft beams mortised into the bents. Trying to leave rafters open and insulation the top side of roof. Trying to get as close to r 60 in floor, north wall, and roof. Built many houses for customers finally building my own. Got piers and foundation dug. Hoping to get bents up and roof next spring. To make a skillion pavilion and work on north wall and masonry appliances this summer. Doing old world kitchen with masonry heater, stove, and white oven. Masonry and lumber materials are produced locally. So can get great building stone and timbers. Building a retirement earth ship cottage. To live as cheap as possible. Thanks for all the great videos.
Thanks as always for your comment Eli! We will keep the videos coming!
