interesting, I use a JPC-12 which I stick into the ground. I use the Icom 7300 and sit in a folding chair at the tailgate. However it’s a bit cold at the moment.
With the HF-008, looks a bit fiddly measuring the antenna length but you would get practiced. With the JPC-12 I change the coil or remove it for the higher frequencies. Often I’d just go with 40 or 20 metres.
I have ordered the Alpha Moto where theoretically you don’t have to change the antenna with the band but there is probably some other trade-off.

Thanks, sounds good. If you mark the antenna, you can just go to the line. But each antenna is different. Thanks for your comment mate!

The rubber covers are to protect the autos finish and I don't understand why you would peel the foil off either. If your going to review a piece of gear, maybe read the manual

Thanks for your comments. The foil can come off or stay on, it is up to each person. I checked this with Radioditty. I felt it made better contact with them off. Thanks for your thoughts though!

You don't have to take the foil off, but can.

"New band and HF all antenna base"?! What?!

Does it not work on 10 meters? I don't see 28MHz listed on that guide

Yes it does. It is down the bottom, but just off screen. Thanks for checking. Hope it helped.

@@BenjaminSangster Thanks for the confirmation. Also, is there a way to use this HF-008 on a 2nd floor balcony without having the car roof mount? 73

@@axi6ne8us Hi, great question. It isn't a ground independent antenna as far as I am aware, so I would think it if is on a metal roof, it should work. You could get a metal tray or large plate and earth it and perhaps that would work. That is what I would try anyway. Others may know also. If this works, yes it would be great and small for that use. Hope that helps mate.

Yes does mate. Works well depending on location

The coax shield connects to the body of your car, as the ground plane required by the antenna system, through the capacitance provided by the aluminum foil that you pulled off. The VNA measurements you made are meaningless. Put the nano VNA back in the box and read a good amateur radio handbook to understand the basics of antennas.
