I love Aretha Franklin. She was the Queen of Soul and her music always lifts me up and inspires me. Her journey was so fascinating. " Aretha grew up and in the church and so did I. I can really relate to her gospel roots even though I'm not a Gospel singer lol .
She was originally marketed as a "Jazz Singer and was singing jazz standards, but she didn't really catch on. It was until Jerry Wexler, Music journalist turned producer, signed her to Atlantic records. Carol King recorded this song on her record "Tapestry" too. Mary J Blige and Celine Dion both chatted with this song in the same year! What a powerhouse this song is and I love it! The rest is music history! I also think my Telecaster really fits this empowering song for women and I hope that you guys catch that vibe, too.

Lovely.....when Aretha performed that at the Kennedy Center honors for Carole King it made me cry...her with a solo piano is the best...she could really play the piano with a lot of feel......I saw Aretha and Ray Charles perform on stage with just two grand pianos in San Francisco in the 70s and it was the highlight of my musical life......brings back such memories...I highly recommend watching Aretha sing this at the Kennedy Center...Carole King was just gushing throughuot the performance

WOW, YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!! It pisses me how the (record industry) has made it near impossible for wonderful amazing artists, BUT MUSIC WILL NEVER DIE! I just happened to stumble on this video, had I not, I would not have known about you. I am an old school music lover. When I was young, we were introduced to new artist's music on radio stations, AM stations. Those days are long gone. And given the exploitation of artists by so many record companies, I'm glad social media can be used for exposure. But I can imagine it is still a financial struggle. I hope established artists, like SHIELA E., NILE ROGERS, JOHN LEGEND, JAM & LEWIS, ESPERANZA SPAULDING, HERBIE HANCOCK, JOHN BAPTISTE, BOOTSY, MARCUS MILLER, PATRICE RUSHEN, even TYLER PERRY and others, when they discover an artist like you, can offer more exposure, if not opportunity for wealth. Your talent deserves success! Don't stop being BRILLIANT!!! You got my ears, and attention!!!! In the past, I purchased many albums, cassettes and CDS on the power or beauty of ONE song, as you just did! I never purchased bootleg. My friends asked why. I'd always say, imagine you are an artist.. Someone purchased 1 of your CDs for $15., duplicates and sells 100 CDs at $10. each: 100 X 10 = a thousand dollars stolen from the artist, X bootlegging everywhere = starving artists. When we love an artist's work, we should pay THEM for it! An artist should not have to perform on the street with listeners dropping coins in a damn cup to get paid. Keep being YOU, don't let anyone sway you away from being authentic! I wish you all the success your heart can stand!!!!
