I've been keeping Limousin suckler cows for 30 years and the only profit on them has been via the various subsidy schemes. With bTB in this area (Pembrokeshire) and the cost of replacement machinery we're moving to sheep only, and looking around this traditionally beef area I am not the only one thinking this - fields that have always carried growing cattle now contain sheep. Cattle prices will rise, I am sure, but perhaps not fast enough in the UK to forestall a decline in numbers; in Carmarthen in the lasy 2 asles there have been 4 dispersals. @@thomasphelan2390
