Sandsend beach near Whitby Yorkshire. Having a casting lesson followed by fishing with my mate Alan and Gareth on the beach. A bootiful day to be sea fishing in stunning surroundings. Now to work on that casting.

Hi vern liking all your videos mate then came to this one at Sandsend so I thought I'd give you a few pointers 👍 This beach throws up some very big Bass in those breakers they run up and down the surf from the cliffs on your left all the way the whitby and you get them all through the year. The best places to fish for the cod are away from the surf and there's some lovely holes and depressions along that beach and the surf will change into swell over the hols and from the top at high water they are clear to see. You can also fish the promenade to your right this is called upgang and its where you can drive right down to the sea edge and fish out the back of your car. The way to get in to upgang is in between the golf course and there a white gate 10 yards off the main coast road you parked on and it's open all year round and you will see its much deeper there as well. Best time is dark over high or low and fishing 3 up and 2 down is normally the time to fish over high and 2 before low and just fish it right up like you have in this video. Sandsend carpark which is to your left you can see it from where you're fishing is another good shot and fish about 5 parking spaces from the end so close to the cliffs and the steps that take you up on to the cliffs and cast straight out in front of the car but not towards the cliffs just cast straight and there's a lovely cod holding hole and you should hit it off the ground with a worm and squid bait on a pulley pennel and a 6oz grip lead 👍 Your casting vern looks better and you're relaxed and sometimes having the rod so high makes you too stiff and you don't get and power from your body rotation and you will hear your rod making a whipping sound as the first part of the cast is a waste of time really because you can't twist enough. When you are relaxed doing your normal stance you can see the difference in the compression in the rod and your bending it right through to the butt👍👍 The best winds are anything but straight east you get zero colour from a easterly its all top so save that for the bass. NW N NE SE are all good and put plenty of colour in the water but honestly mate it doesn't want to be too rough on there it's brilliant after a big winter blow with nice ground swell running through and use 15-29lbs mono which is more than enough strength and I've never lost a rig from snags on that beach fishing the tide up apart from towards whitby West pier where there is some rougher ground but its on the massive spring tides around 0.1 0.2 meter where your walking miles down the the waters edge. You have 2 rods put 1 just in the middle to back breaker for the bass and put 1 in to the horizon but give the baits plenty of time vern it's amazing how many good cod I've had when my bait has been out 45 mins especially if I put a full squid out there. I'm knackered like yourself I need 2 new hips and 2 knees and I'm getting a shoulder replaced at the end of the month so I'll be able to get out fishing more. If you fancy a session I'm 2 hours down the A19 from dimmo where the cod father loves or 20 mins from whitby so either way if you fancy a session this winter I'm more than happy to come meet you and ill show you a few different OFG Casting variations which with your hip I think would suite you down to the ground. Get in touch mate there's plenty of codlings about during last weekends blow so it's looking like it's going to be a better cod season than last year. I think it’s to get me ready for a pendulum cast but it allows you to use more of your body rotation to hit the cast. But everything needs to be right to work. Have mastered the cast with steps at home with a rod butt but not the case on a beach as I’ve just found out 🤣🤣🤣. Always feels different with a line and weight. All down to muscle memory, I’ll get there. Yes great area to be in and thanks for enjoying video. All the best Shaun.

Glad you enjoyed video Sean. Yes a bootiful place to be fishing or for a walk. I hope it helps your casting even if it’s showing you the faults you may have to overcome 🤣🤣. It’s a long road to learn and was getting there until the steps Have now mastered the steps at home but not on the beach. It’s all down to muscle memory. I’ll get there just takes time. Had to edit as forgot the last bit couldn’t see it. Yes some dog owners maybe should take a test. I may have daughters dog soon on the beach as she has a puppy. Hello mate hope alls good at your end, another cracking video was praying you'd pull something in right to the end, but that's what makes your vids so good you always show the catching and blanking also how good are you in front of the camera it's like you completely forget about Joe public and carry on like a pro, 2 questions mate how long is the cod season and what is cart i hear you mention it a lot and wondered what it was, I'm just back from a week in Scotland watching my beloved Rangers thankfully they didn't blank in the 2 game's I saw,we've no plans for the next month or so, so back to normal Wednesday routine looking forward to 7 o'clock each week, keep'em coming buddy 🎣👏👍
Thanks Jimmy glad you enjoyed video and thanks for sticking it out to the end but I’m afraid as you know it was one big blank. But what a day casting lesson to fry my brain🤣🤣. Great scenery great waves 🌊 and great company. Yes feel okay in front off camera unless a gang off teenagers are walking past. Might put camera away until they are honey🤣🤣. Our cod season is roughly October to end of January but you get a spring run which takes you up to April if your lucky. So they are about October to April if we are lucky. But is different all around the coast. Crab cart is brown crab. The wings are from the shell what we call the boat of the crab. Crab cart is all the bits left over and that is frozen 🥶 into a block which you put into a finger bandage. Which then dissolve into the water attracting fish. Wings are better. You can also stuff squid with it as I have in my videos or cut the wings and elasticate it to a squid as a bait. Pleased you enjoyed your Rangers matches must have been a nice break. Hope dog is happy now in new home and yes Wednesday 7pm plenty to come unless I get called up to the Russian Front as I’m deadly with a 6 oz weight. Hi Vern looks a beautiful beach ( apart from the dog walkers who have no control of there dogs. ) and weather looked lovely. Your casting is coming on nicely. The sea looked a different colour to what we get on the Lincolnshire coast.

But I’ve cracked it will have to see if it works on the beach. Should be ok once muscle memory kicks in. See was clear Alan thought we might get a bass but probably to early in the year ? Thanks Gunnerroy absolutely cracking beach will be there again further down the beach. I was casting past those breakers and to be fair the six ounce weight was holding bottom for me. Lots of suffers on this beach as surf gets huge here. I’ll try me next mark then move to somewhere different. All the best mate your side stay safe.

It's a lovely beach Sandsend need to be further down the coast water deeper down there had a 10 lb cod down there fishes better at night keep up with the casting will get used to it its all about timing and setting your reel to suit you

I live in Bradford and normally goes to humber river or hornsea withernsea etc. I've been to filey briggs once just for visit not for fishing. On the right side of the cliff there is a beach opposite the boat club. I wonder if I could do a night session there. It doesn't look snaggy. I don't know how good it is fishing wise
@@mumtazzafar1576 don't no postcode but it fishes better at night you can fish from the car park on high tide but on a big tide can be very productive but if it gets to rough can move on to whitby pier

If you saw how much the owner tried to grab the dog it was like watching an old comedy. She had a lead in her hand. Yes always the dog owners fault I’ve learned that a while ago. Daughters now got a dog and I’ve been told it will be on the beach with me fishing. So it will be Vernon and 4 legged friend Duke. All the best Will stay safe mate.

Well a few lessons with Alan and he will soon put you right. He’s fine wonders for my casting but you have to practice what he tells you. As you only get out what you put in. But without Alan I would have never got to wear I am now. Pendulum next hopefully. Pleased you like videos rants come and go but are always a part of me and fishing. All the best mate stay safe.
