One of the defining elements of James Browns career has always been his electrifying live show and his performances at Montreux give ample evidence of this. This DVD focuses on his choice as the best of them all from 1981.
This is a man's world, this is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl
You see, man made the cars to take us over the road
Man made the trains to carry heavy loads
Man made electric light to take us out of the dark
Man made the boat for the water, like Noah made the ark
This is a man's, a man's, a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl
Man thinks about a little baby girls and a baby boys
Man makes then happy 'cause man makes them toys
And after man has made everything, everything he can
You know that man makes money to buy from other man
This is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl
He's lost in the wilderness
He's lost in bitterness

The more older you get, the more you understand these musicians 🎶 🎶
Ya heard !
Yes I agree with you 😊
I think you unintentionally explained why great musicians are so famous posthumously
No woman, no cry…. for sure.
Fore sure
When Michael Jackson says your his idol.... That's saying something!
Trueeeeeee
VERY
I love how connected he is with the band.
Oh hell Annabelle
I thought exactly the same.
Always
They actually read off his signals but with enough experience and chemistry together, they can bounce off each other. Watch some live bands. You'll see them put up a 1 or a 2 for certain hits.
Gênio da música.
He was singing from his soul.. R.I.P James Brown
FACTS‼️ Deep deep down in there.
never got enough credit for his singing ability. he shows it here, on the real
@@thekidhartford5266 he was literally known as "the hardest working man in show business, the godfather of soul"
He was singing from cocaine, but it's called soul
Dam man music was something different back then 🤜🏿🤛🏼
First of all this Man was a true genius and this song means that without the love and care of a woman then nothing would be possible for all MAN-kind. RIP James you are truly missed

Michelle Hubbard hi
You got that right he's talking about loving a woman and all man does with his love for that one woman
I stopped at "this man is a true genius" 😂😂😂
Ps...but it would be nothin' without etc.etc. ❤️😬😬😬😁
I wish music was appreciated like this these days…you don’t see people these days using their soul like this….like there’s no tomorrow singing.. I love the authenticity in James Brown. Legend
Using their soul, you are correct! Nothing quite like this anymore!
Charles Bradley
That's why he is called, 'The King of Soul'. Never forget it.
I’m a 33 year old black woman born in 1984 and I’m blown away by his performance. I’m watching Black Excellence at it’s finest! LEGENDARY!
god bless you bb
That the only you can see by now.........?.....dont you see mother earth crying?and whispering.....i am??wake up girl...its a mans world
And you are not 33......you are 28.....fuck maths
Shakira Wise are you a fan of Michael Jackson?
We are all people, Elvis, Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra even Michael Jackson to an extent are not defined by the colour of their skin but by the talent they possess
one of the greatest of all time....what we lost when this man passed cannot be put into words. His music will always live on....When I was 13 I had to sneak his records into my house because my parents wouldn't allow them in...this was 1966...I was the only white kid who had every jb album
THE greatest
Thats crazy!

desisports adda He said he was 13 in 1966 so he’d be about 67 now.
This might be the most intense performance I've ever seen. He's unashamed, bearing his soul like he has nothing to lose. He sings every note like it might be his last.
the audience must have been in a type of hypnosis: the tension, power... incredible. this doesnt happen nowadays anymore
This is his best live performance of this song. Hands down.
This is is a man whose band follows his cue like clockwork. No mistakes, no missteps. Beautiful performance., I should have been there! I was 3 years old then and in Africa! Wow!
Awesome. Heartbreaking. There's a reason this man was called the Godfather of Soul, and here's why. There are two great live versions of this song, the one from the Sex Machine album (with the full late 60's James Brown Band in peak performance), and this from 1981. The King's empire was crumbling. All the extraordinary work Mr Brown had done for the past 20+ years was falling through his fingers. Disco was tearing it all apart. The hits had dried up. The taxman was on his tail. And as well versed in showbiz as he was, you can't help but feel the genuine rage and despair as the GFOS falls to his knees, his once magnificent head of a hair now a wild mess, nowhere near his mic even, crying 'help me somebody!'. There will never be another James Brown. But one was more than enough. Cherish his music.
Check out Tampa Florida 1966 live version
William Thomas Also the one on the Ed Sullivan Show
Checkout the collab with the great Luciano Pavarotti
Change is a must and everyone who can't embrace change will have to stop doing what they love doing. GFOS continued performing right to the 2000's . That was commitment.
@@pdr305 I love that collaboration. Pavoratti ain't no joke.
2021 and I’m still coming back to watch this performance. RIP Legend
i think this song is one of the most beautiful and stunning treasures of all the times. this should be the soundtrack of every man and woman life. Rest in peace brother JB. the one and the only king. the Soul Brother N.1.
1 love
OMG i never seen someone sing like that before... thats incredible
He was 48 years old here !
Red wow
THIS IS SOUL ..
PURE LEGEND
hardest working man in show business
like I said the brother knew his kraft.
A LEGEND, The Godfather of Soul himself.
4:09 This is soul music at it's absolute finest
+Julian Macias definitely! i love how the man went down to his knees in the backround! i was about to fall from my chair, but the soul from this track catch me up!
Old School Music Hell yeah it is

@@mikedavila3703 OMG💥
i feel sad and sorry for james in this performance,
when he drops to his knees and just starts saying
'love me somebody'
it feels so honest and true.
what an emotionally amazing performer.
he says; help me somebody.
@@JaredNgesa it can go both ways, that's what she said
Simply timeless Anybody else here 2019🤞❤
My favorite song. Powerful gem
soul...pure natural soul....african-americans have contributed so much in changing the landscape of the most popular music of the last century.....jazz...... rock'n'roll......soul.....
I was 6 years old and watched my parents dance to this song...I knew then, about the strong bond...between a man and a woman...in love! Thank you James Brown. No Doubt, The hardest working man in show business! R I P!!!! much love and peace, a long time fan. You showed me real..SOUL!!!! Amen!
i'm a grown man, but i can still feel tear rolling down my cheek, while listening to this genius. One word - Perfect.
Great performance from James so much feeling in this song.
We will never see this again in the future.
The timing on this band is simply amazing. Everything in in sync, everything. You don't see shit like that today. Simply amazing.
Epic performance of a timeless soul song!❤🙂 RIP iconic Mr. James Brown.
James Brown was and will always be the KING! He gave his all on the stage....till his last day.
He is one of the greatest in the history of music, this song and his moves are the soul of the world, R.I.P.
An icon of Soul. And he credits those before him.
he was not the king of soul, he was and will ever be the god of soul! i don't care what ever he did, but his songs are untouchable!!!!! thans mr. james for such melodies you gave us!!!!!!!
4:10 : LEGEND, this is a move of LEGEND
I respect James Brown as much as anyone who ever lived and watching and listening to him pay tribute to other performers just shows you what kind of a person he really was.
The video clip ended before he finished with the tributes, but I think he went on to also pay trubute to John Lennon and Jim Morrison. The man was as big a legend as there ever was and he also respected and appreciated his fellow performers.
This man has had an effect on my musical taste and changed the face of black music. I feel blessed to have seen him 3x , a giant! All these castingshow-artists of today will never ever even come close to this talent!
The moment he spun around and grabbed the microphone stand down is beyond smooth.
this is why thy call him the GODFATHER of soul R.I.P james thanks for your music.
Jesus christ this is beautiful. Chills and tears through the whole song.
I love how he would let the music move and consume him, such passion for art.
I just had to look this up to see who is on drums - fantastic - and what a band. Montreux jazz shop has this on sale as a DVD and CD - Credits as follows - James Brown (vocal) Hollie Farris (trumpet) Jaasan Sanford (trumpet) Joe Collier (trumpet) St Clair Pickney Jr (saxophone) Jerry Poindexter (keyboards) Ron Laster (guitar) James Nolen (guitar) David Weston (bass) Fred Thomas (bass) Tony Cook (drums) Arthur Dixon (drums) Ann Beedling (vocal) Martha McCrady (vocal) Kathy Jordan (vocal)
OMG 4:10 is amazing, just when i thought MJ had the best moves...
NOBODY better at this ever, PERIOD!!!! J,.B. at his very best. Awesome performance ,great band .PEACE ALWAYS BROTHER!!!
La orquesta
Le hace el amor a mis oídos a mi alma
Es increíble me gusta la guitarra
This is a MANS world...unfortunatelY! But it would be nothing NOTHING without a woman or a girl!!!
Great song!!!
James Brown is the man in music
When he started thanking people, I was really hoping that he'd mention Otis Redding. Thank god he did. The soul and the blues just pours from Otis's voice like the entire Mississippi River draining into the ocean.
James Brown, Mister dynamite, godfather of soul, king of funk, number one showmam is still with us! His music ,his moves, will never die. Just listen to the music ! !
Ain't nothing l like sipping on Remy Martin, smoking Marlboro Lights, and Listening to James Brown. I am sooo throwed...... =)
This is legendary live consert
don't blame the woman for the dislikes, i consider this song de best statement of love for the woman!
Michael had some great teachers coming up. He was lucky to have come along when he did.
He always left earth off into some other realm with every performance
RIP James Brown 🙏
So much energy he put into this . Almost like he could recall all the memories at that moment that lead to the making of this song. Legendary
I was on his show in Tbilisi in 1999, It was unforgetable
The camera work is stunning, it reminds me of John Cassavetes’ films, it’s so intimate and powerful. I was lucky enough to see the Godfather of Soul in Buenos Aires in 1997. Nothing like him.
I bought the original DVD of this hole concert on 2007.I was 18 then.I never stopped listening to this specific song... I'm from Greece. I'm a big fan of Michael Jackson and I wanted to know his idol music. I love listening to old black music. Nat King Cole, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Etta James...
one of the best funk, soul, gospel singer of all time...I like this way of singing..not the flat, long notes all the time,...James...thanks for your life spent to sing your emotions richt to our hearts...
Quel chanteur et interprète !!!
Le roi de la soul je peux écouter cette chanson 50 fois d'affilée je le kiff il me donne des frissons à jamais le King ❤❤❤
Such an iconic, irresistible, interesting, incredibly & impossibly intractable talent--that makes me implacable without being able to listen to one of his songs...this one in particular.
How the rhythm changes when he start the tributes....I can listen to this forever !
4:10=coolest microphone move ever.
sein bestes Lied.. einfach göttlch..
rest in peace.. legend...
One fo the best performers ever. It seems he's making love with that mic. Pure passion, pure pain, pure love.
R.I.P James Brown, "the Godfather of Soul"
On this day in 1966 {June 4th} "It's A Man's Man's Man's World" reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's R&B chart...
About one month earlier on April 30th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #8 and spent 9 in the Top 100...
James Brown passed away on Christmas Day of 2006 at the age of 73...
May he R.I.P.
Man i feel this song so bad in my heart
Immense artiste et performer,,,, absolument génial et inoubliable

Isso que é música de verdade!
Better than this wil never happen
A band called Rival Sons did this too
Check it out!
This is what u call a top notch performance 🔥🔥🙌
Не is something unbelieveble... cool... sexy...charismatik..perfect
Sometimes I wonder, where did he come from? Another planet? It doesn't seem possible for a human being to sing like that or grab people with such force. He came and went before we had a chance to figure these things out.
I'm a white man from northeast England and this man is a absolut master of funk he dose not miss a beat hes in control the whole time u cant learn this shit and ther is no new ones that come anywhere near .get up like a sex machine whoooooooo
One of the greatest blues performances I ever saw.
he worked soo hard you can see he put sooo much heart and soul into it had a great voice and such great moves, you rock! My dad always loved you went to many concerts of yours!
REAL MASTERPIECE......................................................
Only a true Gentleman like Mr. James Brown can take time to pay so immense tribute to Great ones like Elvis- Otis Redding - Sam Cooke - Janis Joplin &co.
This is my second preferred version of 'This is a man's world' after the one along Mr.Luciano Pavarotti.
Well done James Brown 'You' are the King ♪
music is from the within,
there's always some James Brown within us, some a lots, some a little
and James Brown is never lost, except he is at the end of this song
36 Dislike it must those few who dont understand the man who is the Godfather of Soul. Instead of listening to T-Pac and T-Pain why dont they just sit back listen to the pure essence of this mans voice. James Brown will forever be missed and loved by many. So where ever you are Mr. Brown keep on makin people feel good.
What an era. 👏👏
Nice.
Wonder how many thumbs up you'll get for this!
Derrick May & Carl Craig as well.
This is music.
it gets no better
the best of the world and the heaven....................... Dios esta disfrutando de tu voz en el cielo James Brown............ aaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhh amazing song.......
un mundo de hombres que no seria nada sin las mujeres........................ nothing
I saw him in concert the year before he died and it was such a phenomenal concert. He really did put a lot of passion and effort into his shows.
28 people would not know good music, even if it hits them right between the eyes...
Best live performance ever...
Only true musicians can appreciate this type of presentation...absolutely Gangsta! Love it!
Watching him sing this makes me just cry. That man sang from his soul back in the day. Nobody can be compared to him then OR now.
This sounds perfect
Was there ever a better performance of this song? This is my favourite performance of this song, by the Godfather of Soul... if anyone has one they like better I would appreciate a link!
Check out the one where he brings up Michael jackson. Badass
I was lucky enough to see james brown live before he died, he supported the chill peppers in manchester, it was pissing it down, james took the stage and the clouds fek'd off and the sun shone down.....Magic!
Greatness!!! ..your eyes and ears have been blessed. .so be thankful. .can I get a amen
Definitly one of the greatest live performances without a doubt. This was amazing.
