I've been testing the AW 7, SE 2, Forerunner 165 and the pretty old Vivosmart HR. The battery on the Garmin devices is unbeatable when compared to the AWatches but since they are from Apple, the UI and the data is bit more superior when compared with these entry level Garmin devices. Since I'm a runner I find it very easy to start/pause a run or any activity on the Forerunner. Both the companies are great but I find Garmin's tech a bit more accurate but it doesnt mean that Apple isnt any good. Its about quality over quantity since I finally chose to use my Forerunner as my daily driver. My AWatches just sleep in my cupboard waiting for me to take them out to parties and meetings once in a while.
