The cat's name is Julius. Disney created him to cash in on Fleischer's Felix The Cat after seeing how popular he was.

Oooof! This would fail societal norms big time today. Interesting to see what was deemed acceptable nearly 100 years ago. That said, the combination of animation and live action was almost certainly groundbreaking in its day.
