I'd like to share a brief anecdote my father told me. In one of the early Nyingma Monlams, amidst the prayer ceremony, he noticed a familiar figure in one of the corners praying. During the break he discovered it was Rinpoche with his attendant. He requested rinpoche to join the sangha, to which Rinpoche refused. Undeterred, my father spoke to a khenpo there and asked him what kind of lama is Yangthang Rinpoche? Khenpo replied by saying he's very revered and spoke highly of him. Pointing towards Rinpoche, my father revealed his presence. Aware of Rinpoche being there, lamas approached Rinpoche, requesting him to join the sangha to which he reluctantly agreed. As they prepared a seat and tended to his needs, Rinpoche, on his way remarked to my father, "You naughty fellow."
