Rumi (30 September 1207 - 17 December 1273), was a 13th-century Persian[1][7] Sunni[8] Muslim poet, jurist, Islamic scholar, theologian, and Sufi mystic.[9] Rumi's influence transcends national borders and ethnic divisions: Iranians, Tajiks, Turks, Greeks, Pashtuns, other Central Asian Muslims, and the Muslims of South Asia have greatly appreciated his spiritual legacy for the past seven centuries.[10] His poems have been widely translated into many of the world's languages and transposed into various formats. Rumi has been described as the "most popular poet"[11] and the "best selling poet" in the United States.

@@mukhtardost8723 Persia does not mean from Pars, but the land of Persians. Rumi was from Balkh, *Present-day* Afghanistan which was part of the Khorasan, the northeastern province of Greater Iran, therefore, there was no Afghanistan back then. There is also the same vain debate about Nizami Ganjavi, the great Persian poet who is claimed by Azerbaijanis to be an Azeri poet. Anyway, Rumi does not belong to any people, nation, country, or even language just as he says:

@@madaranotsoanonymousnowuch1539 There are a lot of fabricated Sunni quotes circulating around the web. Most of these are in English and are invented by a man by the name of Coleman Barks who didn't even understand Persian. So there's that. Orientalists and New Age deviants try to hijack "Sufism" for the selfish promotion of their own spiritual deviations.

    Centuries ago, Mevlana wrote in Persian in his famous rubaî (so much so that Persian was considered the language of poetry at that time and many Turkish poets wrote in Persian) and he said that;
    “Bîgâne megîrid merâ z’in kûyem
Der kûy-i şumâ hâne-i hod mîçûyem
Düşmen neyem er çend ki düşmen rûyem
    Aslem Türk’est egerçi Hindî mîgûyem”
If we write this in modern language, this is:
“Do not consider me a stranger in this village. I am looking for my home in your town. Although I look hostile, I am not an enemy. Even if I write in Persian, my origin is Turkish.
In other words (he said that), “Don't keep me from this village, I'm looking for my own house in your village. Although I am an enemy, I am not an enemy, even though I speak Hindi, my origin is Turkish,”
So, he wrote that openly that he is Turkish.

Where's your proof that Mawlana was a shia? Most Persians until the time of the Safavid period were sunnis of the hanafi and Shafi madhab. If Malwana was a shia why does he praise Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Aisha and even Mu'awiyyah in the masnavi? If he was a twelver shia why isn't there a single poem of his praising the twelve imams? Not to mention that all his descendants who have lived and buried in the city of Konya were all sunnis of the Hanafi madhab. If Mawlana was a Twelver shia as you so proclaim, wouldn't all his descendants and followers have also been Shia like him as well? And no I don't read Mawlana in his English translations, I know Farsi so I can read his poems in their original Farsi and there's nothing in his poetry that has a trace of influence of Shi'ism in it.

since u said u can read it in persian, I dont bother to write to u in english(this is bad in a way because others who read this may not believe he had twelver shia ideology). But no need to mention yes hE HAD HANAFI SUNNI background, but he said what he could say in his poems(not publicly because of the situation he was living at that time, yes TAGHIYA)
another thing about TWELVER, his has 6 books, each book |12| stories, and in general 72 which could be referred to 72 companians of Imam Hosein (a.s), but of course this is assumption. but 12 stories in each book is not assumption, my friend :)
this another one about hadith safinah(ark)
here he talks about one of Amirolmomenin's nickname which is the lion of Allah, at the same time he talks against weak companions. isnt it enough for u?!at the same time is quincidence?! :

he DIRECTLY and EXPLICITLY bring up the VERY FAMOUS FACT of Ghadir khumm which is whoever Im his Maula now Ali is his maula by Prophet Mohammad (saww). :)
I gave u a small hint of his work my friend. enjoy the facts :) having said that still its not easy to prove 100% he was shia nor sunni, but it seems he became shia gradually. to my understanding, he was sunni in the beginning but he reverted to shia by the end. :) but he didnt claim it publicly because of his situation which is totally understandable.
