- In today's video, we're looking the most versatile striker role in Football Manager 24, the Complete Forward! However, all that ability comes at a price and we go over every aspect of this role!
We'll do over an overview of the role, like all the ways a Complete Forward contributes to a match and talk about the difference between the support and the attack duty. Then we'll look at some tactics by breaking down a goal highlight and explaining how different roles like the winger, mezzala, and complete forward all interact with each other. Finally, we'll go over some player examples for your next transfer signing in FM24!

I’m getting back into FM after 10 years away and your vids are really helpful. I played FM and champ religiously from childhood until 2014 and a lot has changed!
welcome back! Glad the videos are helping out
Another fantastic video! You absolutely nailed the explanation of the player role. I almost panicked at the 2-minute mark when you hadn't mentioned creating space yet 😅
Your name of your channel suits you perfect, you're the "Deep-Lying Playmaker" - you're giving us the killer through balls (info) to score those goals (understand player roles/tactics).
This actually made me think about my own role as a viewer. I think I'm a "Supporting Winger" - always here with those well-deserved likes!
Looking forward to the anchorman video next (just a guess) and really interested in a future breakdown of the Libero role!
what an awesome comment, thank you!!! And is it really one of my videos if I don't talk about "creating space"?? hahaha. Funny enough, the libero role isn't the next video, but it is coming soon
Next video: Sweeper Keeper or Ball Playing Defender maybe?
These videos are really great though, keep 'em coming!!
Glad you like them!
Your explanation of roles and the clips you use to back up your points are great. Playmakers next? It will be interesting how you tackle them as obvious the three roles cover DM, CM, AM and wing positions!
Thank you! And yea the playmakers have been tricky in my early drafts; because you're right there is so much variety in their play and positiong it's hard to make just one video on them
thanks. Mezzala it is
Really enjoy watching your videos. Finally someone who explains each role so clearly with good examples from the match engine. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the support! Glad you're enjoying the videos
Great job on the videos, these guides are excellent! My guesses are Mezzala or Anchor, but I am also partial to the Winger role, I love to use players there opposite their strong foot so they hold the width before slicing inside and taking on their defender 1v1.
It's definitely one of those three! The winger is a really underrated role (even underrated to me); such a great way to make width
Have watched all your videos now, love the style and format! I think itll be mezzala, as its a very interesting role. For the roaming playmaker I find that a phsycially strong player is needed (so dahood might be a tad slow) although his dribbling, work rate and passing is exactly what I look for. Also try the 'comes deep to get ball' trait if you havnt already. :)
Those are awesome tips thank you!!
Wonderful as always. I hope next one is either the Mezzala or the Winger.
it's definitely one of those two!
amazing videos! I play FM since 2020 and i always learn something when watching your videos
That's awesome thank you!
PLEASE KEEP GOING!!!!! Your Videos are Gold
I plan to and thank you for the support!
Another top notch video. Love watching the development of your content too. I think the next one will be the Mezzala 😉
I have been playing / following fm since 2016 and you might have the best informative channel on youtube. I really like the simplistic breakdown of these roles and the simple (balanced )way you seem to setup your tactics. Keep it up!
Nice vid! In the future, maybe after you've covered all the roles, can you talk more about tactics? I see that you're like me in a way (simple instructions, not the 'meta' gegenpress), so I hope you'd make videos talking about low block/counter tactic.
that's definitely the plan! I think I'll make some tactic videos sooner rather than later. And not to shamelessly promote myself haha, but in the mean time if you get a chance to check out some of my other videos (in case you haven't already), I have some low-block counter tactics in those videos
You deliver another splendid explanation of a role. Indeed the complete forward role isn't suited for anybony, if you want your striker to do a bit if everything but he's not good enough, it will be detrimental to your team
Thank you! And usually it seems like mentals is the big detriment since if they don't know where to be, it doesn't matter how good they are technically/physically haha
Target Forward is needed.
Damn! You did as I requested. I hope your channel continues to grow bud 🔥
I was hoping you'd see this one! Thanks for the support
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker love it appreciate it and keep it up
Complete Forward, Complete Wing-Back, Segundo Volante and Roaming Playmaker are the most demanding roles and for me the best roles when you manage a very good team. I also love to play 3 at the back because then my wing backs can play more upfront and my high line pressing works better.
I always use Complete Striker on attack. In the build up phase he plays like a Deep Lying Forward. Once my 2 Volantes on Attack Duty and Complete Wing Backs on Support Duty move in the final Third, my Complete Striker will act as a Target Forward, while my Roaming Playmaker acts as a number 10, who stays outside the box and has all the passing options. My second striker is an Advanced Forward who makes deep runs behind the defence.
My 2 Wide Center Backs on defense duty give me width and defensive cover in the half spaces, while my Libero on Defend Duty will move up into the midfield. I play with a positive mentality.
Tip: Always try to find a tactic where you can outnumber the enemy players (make overloads). I like to use wingplay and I always play with only 1 playmaker. With high line pressing and a positive mentality you can win almost any game. If you have a bad team, you have to use a simple tactic and simple player roles in order to succed.
But Target Forwards, Full Backs, Central Defender and Ball Winning Midfielders or Defensive Midfielders or Central Midfielders are no bad roles, just simple roles with only 1 task. As long as your players can fullfil their role in a good tactic you will become a succesful football manager
Would love to see videos about style of plays ! for example best instructions or tips for defensive tactics, counter attacking tactics, route one tactics, you get my point xd.
great suggestion; been working on some other types of videos
Man, you are incredible. Love from México
Thank you so much!!
Love the videos, I want to believe I knew what the roles did but I learn so much through these
Glad you like them!
My guy! The other day my sister gifted me FM24 and i started after not playing FM for a couple of years because its expensive in my country.
Started my save and went to make my tactics and player roles/instructions, and for the first time i started reading the descriptions for the different roles. And let me tell you it all sounded almost the same with some minor tweaks, and i asked myself like a week ago "why it cant be more clear? Maybe after the description put some names of pro footballers so we could get an idea. There must be someone on youtube doing and in-depth explanation of the roles".
And i didnt even get to search it on youtube that started recommending your videos... Amazing! Just what i was looking. And the videos are amazing, you talk at a nice pace, the design is very nice!
Im waiting for new videos so i can apply it to my save.
Thank you my friend!!!
Cheers from Argentina!
This is an amazing compliment thank you! And you're welcome for the content. It means a lot that you are able to learn from the videos! And welcome back to FM!
Anchor or Mezalla! Nice vid, once again!
Great video again mate👏. Do you plan on making videos abouts tactics too? Really look forward to seeing more videos from you. Not only talking about player roles but also gives interesting insight and ideas for tactics in FM👏👏
Thank you! I've been working on some ideas to start with tactic videos. Stay tuned and thank you for the support!
Love the video bro!
Appreciate it!
great video as always man 😊 I'm thinking the next is the mezzala!
thank you for the support! I can neither confirm nor deny that the mezzala is next haha
I really like the retro aesthetics.
thank you! I grew up in the VHS era so it feels very natural to me haha
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I watch quite a few FM videos/content creators but you really stand out - very organic and original. Really enjoy the style you present.
The Complete Forward and some other roles are locked behind a certain CA threshold (125 I think) so young players are rarely proficient in those roles because they rarely spawn with that high of CA
This is a great tip, thanks for the info
I always look forward to and love your videos bud!
Greetings from me, I'm Indonesian🔥
thank you my friend!! I really appreciate the support!
Definition of Benzema, Alvarez and Lewandowski
My guess is the CB.
Great videos
Gods work! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you!
I have watched all of your role videos and really look forward to the each one. I would love to see you breakdown your 433 tactic mentioned in this video in depth looking at your decision making process around team instructions. I love that you have so few and interested in understanding why Counter Press is not used as the majority of tactics I see shared have so many and have Counter Press enabled. Great videos and really looking forward to the next one :)
thank you for the support! And I like to use fewer tactical instructions because sometimes simpler is better. It's easier to see what's going wrong with a tactic since the fewer tactical instructions means you can narrow down the issue easier (if that makes sense)
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker makes perfect sense, thanks for the clarification. I need to be more confident with my tactics and try not to add new instructions based on a single highlight. I'll try and keep it simple and use a balanced mentality and see how I get on. Thanks
Love the format of these videos. I am extremely curious about the roaming concept: I have some thousands of hours into the game and still I struggle to understand who and when actually benefits from roaming roles and instructions
Thanks! And as for the roaming, I kinda think about it like this: if you put a player in the Attacking Midfield role, he'll move around the CAM area.
But if you put the "roam from position" player instruction on the same AM, he may say "hey there's some space over there on the wing let me go exploit it". This is a good thing since it can lead to him finding open space. However, it can be a bad thing since it's outside of your tactical instruction and he can "roam" out of position, leaving your team vulnerable. A player with good "off the ball" and "anticipation" will be more effective at roaming
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I had the same starting idea, but then I applied the same concept to smart but slow wide midfielder and it worked great, so I am now wondering: shouldn't we simply give the roaming instruction to all smart players? There is a theoretical backslash if they lose the ball, but it's more a question of structure in the players with a defensive role because if I am not wrong you can't give the roaming instruction to players on defense
Thank you. your videos help a lot
Happy to help!
Great video. Sad about no RPM yet. But is Mezzala next 👀
I can neither confirom nor deny the mezzala is next
Great videos! You should make a video on how to create a good tactic
Thank you! And thank you for the idea, been working on a few things to make that video!
i always thought and saw many tactics and thoughts about roles and one of them was always to not play winger and mezzala in the same flank i dont know why xd, great video as always!
Full winger or just inverted / inside forward? If it's the inverted type they tend to operate in the same space when on attack. If it is a winger I guess it's just better to have it on the other side, especially if they are good in the air because they can get it pinged to them by the opposite winger.
@@herbie3164 in this internet content creators they just always put if or iw with mezzala on the same flank saying it's working very well xD
@@nicnePencin yeah I might be wrong actually, maybe it's to do with the overload pulling defenders/dms from your striker. You might be able to just go narrow on defence against it though and play 1 on 1 or more against a wingback.
I just really like the space that those two create together haha. I think especially with this year's new positional play, you can make all kinds of flank roles work with the mezzala
Trequartista next please.
(One little circle slightly overlaps another little circle) here we see the complete forward towering over his defender 😅
a circle overlap is "towering" in my book hahaha
Please make a video about creating space! I often see my well balanced tactics not being able to do something in possession. It's so frustrating to watch your CB going long with no purpose and ending up giving away possession.
I know, if I had a dollar for every time my CB booted it long haha. I'll see if I can make a video on space and how to control your players from doing that (I always hate when the do that XD )
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Thank you so much, looking forward to it. I mostly play on lower leagues, it might just be the factor that players are not that great in listening to instructions after all haha
Yea with lower leagues, I always have like a built in "hey it's the lower leagues" whenever there's a bad pass or something haha
Do roaming playmaker next pls
love your videos
can you tell me the diference between the mezzala and the central midfielder on attack? always had that doubt on mind and actually i prefer the cm
The mezzala is a halfwinger, so they occupy the space between the winger and the central midfield and are more creative. (as a side note, you may enjoy the next video topic!). The CM(A) works as a traditional midfielder, but with the attack duty they're actually a huge goal scoring threat too. I LOVE the CM(A) role; may be my favorite in the game
Well put! Can we get the DLP eventually? I struggle on understanding how to use it effectively
Great idea! I'll see if I can work on something for the DLP. I mean it is the name of the channel after all haha
LESGO
How have you not done a dlp vid yet😂
irony
Got to save the best role for last haha. Or I may do like a "deep lying playmaker week" and just do a bunch of videos on it
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker How many could you even do on one role?
Man, your subscriber escalate quickly. Don't forget to explain the most hard role: ramsdeuter and egchance
MORE! 😂
What about Trequartista role in attack position? In possesion, is it somehow comparable to a Complete Forward? Personally, I think they tend to behave similarly but T has to be more technocally gifted and the CF is more like a tower; do you agree?
A Second striker with playmaking is a Trequartista.
A Complete Forward can fill even more roles by playing a target man, lead the press in the gegenpress meta, find the final pass, finish at a high level, hop into the midfield or into the wings.
@@shadow_realm47Was Messi a T or a DLP?
They are similar in that they both pretty much have freedom to do what they think is the right play. But like @shadow_realm47 said, the Complete Striker is all around striker who is expected to fulfill essentially every striker role. But I definitely agree in that the trequartista is much more technically gifted and will have more of a playmkaing "mindset" (if that makes sense haha)
What is the skin u are using ?
It's the Rensie Dark FM24 skin. I love it! You can find it on the FMScout website.
