  • This is how I fixed my Jeep grand Cherokee passenger side that had no AC on just that side. Common issue on other Chrysler dodge vehicles. Can be no heat or air conditioning on either side. Ask questions in comments or let me know if this helped you.

    First off… thank you, I really appreciate your walkthrough and it helped me get to the actuator…but I am still having an issue. My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee started blowing room temp air on the passenger side…driver side is fine TG, but I’m in Florida and it’s too hot to have AC issues! So I checked the blend door actuator and yes…the plastic gear broke off at the stop…and even though I didn’t need it I decided to replace both the actuator motor and the gear with new OEM parts just to be done with it for under $50. So I believe I installed the parts correctly, it can only go in one-way right? Before I installed it tho, I manually tested the door first and it moves freely…I also tested the motor and let it dangle while I powered on the car…I tried holdingon to it to see if some resistance would stop it like the gear stop is supposed to do right? Wrong…that motor did not feel like it was going to stop, or am I missing something here? Shouldn’t it stop with some resistance? Anyway…I really had no other alternative other than to just install and test it …and so I did just that and I’m pretty sure I installed it correctly…it can only go in one way right? I slipped on the gear to the inner gear 1st…with the large tooth to the large gap…then adjusted the actuator/stem to line up and screwed it down. I’m wondering if this is the point where I didn’t line it up correctly somehow. So after installing the actuator/gear and removing battery power for 30 min to recalibrate…I cranked it up and all I can hear from the actuator was a loud clicking noise like the plastic gear just sheared off the stop again! I don’t think I need to pull it off again to figure that out as its exactly the same…cold air on the driver and room temp on the passenger side. I’m puzzled as to why when I crank up the heat on the passenger side that works with no problem…it just doesn’t get cold when I crank it down! I don’t wanna give up yet my bruthas…any help would be appreciated….thx again

    Pro tip for the non pro: change the cabin air filter while you have access to it, super easy. Fabrese makes some good smelling one now too. Haha.

    Pat, last year I referenced your video to replace my driver-side blend door actuator, very helpful! This time I have an issue with my mode door actuator and was hoping you knew if it is located on the driver or passenger side? At 3:33 in this video I see there's another "pink dot" up and to the right of the passenger blend door actuator. Is that the mode door actuator?

      Sweet congrats, it's a good feeling to knock it out yourself. So I didn't do this specific one as the jeep came with it but yes steering wheel controls work. Typically there is an extra part you would purchase to keep that functionality and highly recommend it. I alway miss them controls when I don't have them in my other cars.

    My dealership replaced my entire leather dash because it was recalled under warranty for delaminating, after it was replaced my driver side stopped blowing cold air. Could they damaged actuator when replacing the entire dash? I have a feeling they will tell me they couldn't have broken it.

    Just for clarification, does the passenger blend door control the rear air flow as well? Thanks again for the great video! I'll be tackling this in the next week or so.

    Well, 2011 grand jeep Cherokee constantly blend door gear is been broken.(right/left) what I notice is a soft tar residue material on blend door I believe is the culprit. Any opinion please. Thanks.

    • @patmedina1960
      @patmedina1960  Před 2 lety

      Interesting, I wonder if that's something getting to hot in there and it's makes the plastic soft or even melt? Maybe that tar makes things slip out of place. I don't remember seeung a lot of tar in there. Not sure what they did but the new gears I put in held up for quite a while and just sold that vehicle with everything working.

  • @chemicalrecoveryfellowship1721

  • @robwilson21
    @robwilson21 Před 3 lety +2

    With put the gear on the actuator, do you have to put the gear on the actuator a certain way. Do you have to change the temp before putting everything back together?

    • @patmedina1960
      @patmedina1960  Před 3 lety +1

      So I believe it really only goes in one way within a range and then the recalibration by pulling negative battery cable (explained in my other video on this topic) takes car of where it needs to be.

    • @patmedina1960
      @patmedina1960  Před 4 lety +1

      So I would try a couple things. First probably less likely is to do a recalibration of it by disconnecting and re connecting your battery, (I explain this in other video about the same issue but driver side so see that in on my channel), if that doesn't work I would check that little module the gear is connected to is broken on the inside (that is what was broken on driver side for me, there are little gears in it that get messed up). If that doesn't work confirm you are getting power to that gear with the wires that go into it via a multimeter if no power maybe a short or fuse or some other electrical issue. Good luck.
