  • This was our first time out on the McGrew trail after hearing about it in late 2019, while it seems to be gaining in popularity in some circles it still definitely has a bit of a shrowd of mystery around it. Come along with us and see what we thought of it, and if you have done the McGrew let us know in the comments what your experience was like. If you haven't, ask us what you'd like to know about it!

I ran it last weekend with a GREAT group out of OR, I remember every spot in your video. I had a Blast!, 17 rigs, more than a half dozen deadfall acrossed the trail, I used the Bypasses because it's my daily driver and a 300 mile trip to get back home. navigated with a Stock 2018 Colorado ZR2 265/65R17, forward facing camera (Echomaster) and wife riding shotgun were the best spotters to have. The Video only touches on the experience, condolences to the Roberts Family, that spot requires situational awareness. I would definitely do it again, as mentioned recommend a couple of extra days to enjoy it. We had two, including the 3-4 hours to the trail head and 6 hour drive home. Trail time 9am-6pm, 6 Gallons of gasoline (5Mi/Gal) 80% 4-Lo range (helps with brake temps and brake fade).

Sounds like it was a quick but awesome time! Definitely get back out there with some additional time it’s a great area to hang. Thanks for checking out the video! And stay tuned, we’ve got a zr2 in the group so there should be some content coming with it!

I was going to do this trail on memorial weekend, but didn’t know about the permit / gate. I instead went on the “wimer” trail which parallels McGrew more or less. I made it to 42.00223, -123.90685 (bridge at diamond creek) where a fire had partially burned some of the bridge. I thought about crossing it I do feel I could have, but played it safe and turned around. There hadn’t been any sort of tire tracks this year on that trail, a few tight spots / obstacles nothing major. Would have liked to have made it to sourdough.

Always smart to play it safe when on your own! We used Wimer as our loop back out after camping at sourdough. Definitely look into getting the permit and running the trail though, it’s a good time! Thanks for checking out the video!

Nice video. I will be there next weekend. I was there a few years ago but the trail ain’t compare of wha it is now, looks like it’s been used a lot.

Thanks for checking it out! I do think the trail is becoming more well known over the last few years so you are probably right.
