Fun fact: this game was supposed to be the great end to a trilogy. Unfortunately Hasbro wanted it to be an age of extinction game.
They just like to kill off their IPs rather than leave them open to make more money later.

Was it? Cause I know High Moon wanted to do a 3rd game to complete the trilogy but I think that was before they went under.
Feel like that was Activision's decision. But either way, I feel high moon studios did both war of cybertron and fall of cybertron amazing.
Even if that was the case, this game was never going to live up to WFC and FOC without High Moon at the helm.
Funfact: on the Jetfire mission, a lot of the walls don't have physics during the main flying section, allowing you to skip most the mission... How do I know this? That's how I first finished the mission.

Small story from my childhood: i played and loved both War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron as a kid, and when i saw the commercials for Rise of the dark spark i thought it was going to be better than them so i traded my copies of War and Fall for Rise. I've regretted this decision for 8 years now, it still haunts me.

Funny story, years ago when I played the game as a kid on the mission as Optimus with jazz through all the tunnels, I ran into a really bizarre issue where Jazz’s Ai would glitch out and he would attack ME and he would constantly chase me shooting me and reloading the checkpoint did nothing.
Truly an epic experience.

This game is a perfect example as to why you should have reasonable deadlines and not shit out a game as fast as possible
even with more time it would have sucked due to trying to combine the Cybertron games with the bay movies
No this is a perfect example of being too greedy and then forcing ideas that may sound good on paper but in reality don’t work at all and then also rushing those ideas . This was meant to be another cybertron game when activision stepped in and wanted them to make it connect to age of extinction cause they see the success of a connected universe in entertainment so they wanted to force their hand in that and it failed miserably.

@_Sin_ It cant. Grimlock and the dinobots go missing in the sea of rust as they were attacked and kidnapped by shockwave and the insecticons who had already been persuaded to join. Megatron has his new body during this which was before he wouldve got it in foc. Nail in the coffin is that in foc optimus doesnt see megatron in person in his new body until their fight on the ark.
What’s even funnier is that there were assets for Megatron’s WFC already in FOC for the latter game’s third mission. They had the opportunity to put WFC Megatron in the game to fit continuity but they were either too lazy or crammed for time

When the devs for the games where swapped, High Moon was switched from making Transformers games to making the Deadpool game, to Edge of Reality working on Deadpool to Transformers

@@green_was_taken no, this game exists because Hasbro wanted to push their Transformers "Aligned" continuity instead of letting people who loved Baybots love Baybots and those who loved G1 bots to love G1 bots. Activsion was only allowed the make the game the licensor allowed them to make.
They did destroy High Moon Studios though, you can still blame Bobby Kotick for that.
The sad part is that there are some great moments in the levels that take place on Cybertron. Starscream, Soundwave, and Shockwave on a road trip, Steve Blum talking to himself as Shockwave, Swindle, AND Sharpshot. If the devs hadn't been forced to make the Cybertron story tie into the live action movies, which makes NO sense, they could have made a really great followup to the amazing Fall of Cybertron.

I’ve never actually played this game. Why do some environments look like they’re Cybertronian in size? In the first mission, there were fountains and gardens that look like they’d be monstrous if a human stood next to them.

Also found a glitch on the grimlock mission where if you grab and throw a npc off the map the death sound plays multiple times
Can only do so much in 6 months. Even New Vegas had a year. They had to build assets and level design, audio...and have build milestones complete...

Fun Fact: Originally, there was a plan to create a Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters video game, but it was cancelled in favor of creating Rise of the Dark Spark because of AOE's upcoming release.

In case anyone kept wondering, the noise on the characters is lack of quality on the rendering of the models... it often happens with textures that reflect light that is projected onto them. They had so little time to make the game that they had turn down the render quality by a mile.
The other two games came in a time when Hasbro had a more creative leadership and they said "Hey! What if we took our products's universes more and lore more seriously? Like taking Transformers, focusing less in the toys and making comics, tv shows and videogames with conections and deep lore." That was the Aligned continuity.
But then they Hasbro changed their direction and said "No. Forget about that. I remembered that I'm Hasbro and I love money. Sell toys! Sell a game based on the new movie's marketing! Give me money!"
Wasn't it pretty much completely Activisions decision to make it a shit tie-in?

Fun fact about this game: it was never meant to tie the WfC games in with the movies, and is actually a multiversal game, introducing the Dark Spark to three different continuities: the Aligned continuity, the Live Action continuity, and G1 in an end credits scene.
No wonder it was less AOE Content, and more Reused WFC/FOC, I would've preferred a AOE Game Similar to the DOTM Games instead of this

This game was the first time I was let down by a game franchise. Crushed my younger self to realise how bad the game was. I still spent tens of hours playing escalation because I wanted so badly for it to be good
I remember getting the physical copy of this game and never got past the 2nd level. Not because I couldn't but because I didn't want to. Eventually my ps4 broke and it took me a few years to get a new one. It tried putting this game back in to see if it was really that bad and the disc was just straight-up corrupted and couldn't download. It feels like a message.
I loved War For Cybertron, Fall of Cybertron, and really enjoyed Dark of The Moon. I was pretty excited for this, but then I discovered that High Moon Studios had nothing to do with this game, and it only got worse from there.
Yup, Highmoon was pulled to fill in for the Deadpool game before the Marvel License deal with Activision ran out, Meanwhile studio Edge of Reality filled in as a substitute for Highmoon before their Hasbro deal also ran out.
You should try playing these games again, especially the multiplayer. Check out Transformers ReEnergized.

The best Transformers game I played was the first Shia Labeouf movie game. There was actually a button to transform at will and a use for your transformations. I can't believe that they were dumb enough to take that away.
It made more sense since that was an open level game compared to the Cybertron games being a consistent cover based shooter.

I distinctly remember playing FOC, my first shooter video game. Getting stuck on the Megatron arena level for like a month. Needing to watch a video of someone else to beat it. Beating the game and feeling like I had accomplished something. I bought ROTDS on a Friday, thinking I would need at least the weekend to finish it. Six-Seven hours later, I knew what it felt like to be disappointed by a video game. Unfortunately, it would not be the last time I felt that.
Also, yeah. Those drones are the most terrifying thing in the game.
You should try playing the multiplayer mode of FoC, especially with stuff like the cosmetic mod. Check out Transformers ReEnergized.

I think the idea of the dark spark is a interesting one because it makes sense that there whould be an evil version of the matrix. It whould definitely be better idea if the game was not bad
I know it's easy to talk up what could have been, but with how fantastic Fall of Cybertron was, imagine where the story could have gone. Maybe prehistoric Earth, maybe a resistance style war on the dead Cybertron, or heck even planet hopping to other worlds in the Transformers universe
Yeah, at least we can still enjoy the mutliplayer modes of those games thanks to Transformers ReEnergized.
Imagine if they took the fall of cybertron story and turned it into a beast wars story once they got to earth. Could have been cool if high moon made it.
This game was basically the supervisors in charge saying, "What if the Dark of the Moon and WFC/FoC games were combined into one single game?"

I've beaten RotDS and I can say with certainty that the most difficult mission in the game is that Shockwave one you play toward the beginning. Those tiny drones that beat you in 3 hits are ridiculous
Bro I still own this game and I used to play it all the time as a child. I tried playing multiplayer again recently and sadly couldn't get on it but bro this was one of my childhood games, biggest complaint i got about it was some of the story was kinda just "figure it out" and didnt help you at all.

I remember when this was coming out, seeing the fact they incorporated a random samurai transformer that makes no sense, and were transitioning to the Michael bay designs I was SO dissapointed, but was still optimistic. And as soon as I played the first level I was like oh no.. The only thing they got semi-right was the escalation mode, cause it had all the characters from the old DLCs and maps from the other games, but EVEN THEN, if you played on any of the old maps the AI wouldn't always work properly on it. Almost as if they just lifted the map and plopped the AI on the map. I also remember one of the new maps was badly designed, so you could stand in front of enemy spawns the whole game and they couldnt get out of the door if you kept shooting and EVERY time the map would come up I'd always get outvoted 3-1 to go to the map. Nothing more fun than sitting around for a 20 min match, while everyone crouds around a door and tries as hard as they can to steal as many of the kills as possible. The whole game was just an excuse to shoehorn in the Michael bay designs because everyone liked WFC and FOC so much and the movie games werent getting as much praise.
I experienced this game as a small child after War and Fall, and never knew it was supposed to be a third entry in the Cybertron series.

I remember what I got Need for Speed Rivals, my mom insisted that I also get this game. I played this game once.
I played this as a kid and still thought it was incredible until I watched this, and the “he got away!” Quote from the grimlock mission (chapter 13) and all of the same reused voice lines haunt me to this day

So, I know a few guys who worked on this game in edge of reality. They got screwed over by Activision. They asked for a longer time to work on this, they got their deadline shortened. This was genuinely one of the games that helped put Edge under.....

Wow I didn’t even know this existed. I played the transformer Cybertron games(classic) but the main ones that I really went crazy with were the first two movie transformer games. Transformers 1 and revenge of the fallen. They weren’t perfect but man it was pretty cool to just destroy everything as Optimus prime and fly around as Starscream. Plus it was pretty cool to use the Orange wrist blades for Optimus prime. It looks like Commander Shepard’s Omni Blade. Ahh childhood memories lol 😂
The Revenge of the Fallen game had challenges to complete and that would unlock the old G1 dinobot cartoon episodes as well. I loved that game!

Indeed it does, being made by Platinum Games and whatnot. I loved it personally, the cast and music were on point and the action was great, fighting Devastator and Menasor for example was epic.

The cybertron duology and the michael bay tie-in games were running simultaneously. Then Hasbro mandated a unified continuity for every future project. The plots of both series were combined into this game for some reason and it really shows.

I grew up with the 3DS version. Gotta say, it was my childhood. Those battle ani actions were epic and hilarious and the timing mechanic made you feel like you were in the middle if the action. Man it was sooo cool.
Plus we even had a more characters for the story 😂 like arcee and hound didn’t make it in the console version story wise neither did ratchet yet they show up

So I recommend playing Transformers Devastation. It's got music as good as metal gear rising and combat that's super fun and quick! I even enjoyed light plot narrative 👏

Kingdom Hearts 3 was that heartbreaking moment for me. One of my favorite childhood games that had some real charm despite it's ridiculousness. Kingdom Hearts 3 seemed like it forgot about everything that made Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 great, especially when it comes to dialogue and writing.

@@BurnDoubt Lol you MUST be misremembering the second game something hard because the CAMERA f sucked D so bad THAT was the main boss you fought the entire game in the second one. The third game just forget everything it WAS and is only this huge, convoluted mess of time travel and that one Nobody that charged himself (from the past) with that chest thing and the "Door to Darkness" crap. Then the animal masked people and the War of Light crap. It tried to build more to the story to set the stage but ultimately failed in the "Time before Darkness."
@@BlackMoonHowls nah, I don't remember camera issues, maybe your controller was crapping out or smthn. tight controls and near perfect hit boxes were still there and they doubled down on the power fantasy aspect i.e. the progression of Soras ability to control the keyblade(s) through the blue and red and master forms is what I remember
The Rise Of The Dark Spark was a very weird Transformers video game in my opinion

As a kid who loved transformers this was my first entry to the games. Luckily I got detestation right after so my void of emptiness was filled. And don’t feel bad. I was stuck on that shockwave mission for a good month and a half

I played this game sometime after it had come out and can proudly say I can’t recall a single thing about the game. I played it once and have never touched it since.
War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron were such masterpieces and I can still remember my the hope of getting another great Transformers game being shattered when I played.

5:07 That's the problem I have with most of the "mechas" in the 4th to 7th movies: in AoE and tLK, they are bodypainted humans; in Knightverse, they're just graphical remakes of the G1 designs, ‘Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy’-style.
Not to mention Bayverse's *CYBERTRONIAN HAIR AND BEARDS.*
I wonder how Insomniac would handle Transformers.
If you think about it, it'd be a perfect fit for them; they're great with gadgets and their shooting mechanics feel very satisfying in the Ratchet & Clank series.
Given how well they've done so far with the Spider-Man games and Ratchet & Clank, I just think they'd be perfect for Transformers.

I know this game sucks, but you should give the escalation mode a try, you might as well play the multiplayer mode on FoC again, it's really fun with stuff like the cosmetic mod. Check out Transformers ReEnergized.
