In this video we talk about good defensive position in hockey, watching the body and not the puck, and hiding your reach for the pokecheck. These tips will help you play better hockey - Sport
Love the fact that all your D videos can be used in "non check" adult league play. Big help, thanks guys!
or girls 😐
@Jayden Alexander these are both guys😂
I've used the "hide your poke check" for a while now. Let me tell you how effective it is. It's perfect!
Often my team and I have drills where some of us get set-up around pylons as others try to keep
the puck and the guys on pylons try to poke it away. I rarely fail to poke check using your tactic.
Thank you so much!
Hey guys did you know the businesses and workplaces you are involved in download all your personal data from your cell phone? They download your photographs, recordings of your phone calls and random recordings of conversations you have with others when your cell phone is with you. They have access to all your contacts through social media, email, and phone numbers from your cell phone contact list. This generates everything from the marketing and advertising you see to the news you get, to what you are presented on social media. Your data is downloaded from iCloud and one drive and is listened to and used to find trigger words and scenarios that are used to control the way you think and how you live. Your being mind controlled by it to keep you distracted from what is really going on. Because if everyone is focused on micro aggressions and being forced into the ideologies of the culture they won’t be able to stop government takeover.
Hiding ur poke check helps so much, watched this years ago and still use it till this day... pickup hockey against my friends when they come down always forget how much room I have and I poke easily and it’s a breakout for me
Great tips, thanks for all the help, for all the guys, who are trying to get better at their game. Thanks Jeremy
Great tips, helped me a lot, dominated defense today. Love the vids
Been watching these videos for 2 years so I can really master the teckniques, these really work. Thanks
Thank you so much! I am a center and wingman and I have not been used to playing defense and this really helped a lot. Thanks for the tips, also I love how they aren’t really basic and obvious
Great video and even better advice ......... can't wait to try 'em out.
Coach is having me play D this season thanks for these videos!
Same

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
on the part where you said to watch the chest and not the puck, you helped alot because i was watching the puck and they had so many break aways. you helped me so much as a u10 defense
Thanks guys ..Great stuff!!!
Thank you so much this is going to help me so so so much in hockey!!
Thank you for the tips
ty for tips guys
wow eee these tips worked tonight!!! thank u!!
Thank you very good tips
Very well done !!!tx u
Awesome vids guys. I'm second season roller and transitioning to ice next year. Naturally play defense, but have been getting dangled hard. The watch the body is definitely the trick. My main problem I have to work on is transitions when pushing the player to the outside of the rink in the rink and staying with him. Guess I'm not fast enough yet. Made some great d plays with all your video tips though. Thanks.
Good luck! I used to roller blade, and decided to try learning hockey myself.
Only downside was i couldn't re-adjust to roller once i got used to ice.
Thx for the tips coach
Great video !Please make some video for forward
I recently switched to defense from winger. It's a lot of fun but I have no idea what I'm doing. This helped a lot.
I learned a lot from your videos because I play defence in hockey👌🏻
Great video!
Holy cow! These are so simple, they might just work. Thanks for the tips!
3 very good tips !!!!
I have a game against massena today and this helps me
Beauty tips.
Thanks that helps me play better defense in hockey
Thanks I need it
Could you recommend a good book, that really helps with learning the x's and o's of hockey?
this would really help my defense thanks a lot!
Love it. Awesome tips. Maybe 2 a week?
Hey, Jeremy, why don't you make a video for your top 5 hockey sticks.
Good tips
Great!
Nice one jez
My dad taught me that poke check I use that too a lout we'll try if I can remember it
Thx
Hey Coach Jeremy how about a session on how to protect the crease.
Can you make a video on what skating skills someone should master before playing ice hockey? I want to play ice hockey but I'm not sure if my skating ability will match those of other players on the ice.
Cameron Schmidt yes
So I am an adult learner beer leaguer, never been coached or played competitively. Just to establish that I probably don't know what I am talking about. But its my understanding that "stay between the guy and the net" is sort of simplistic and that you really need to stay between the guy and the slot aka house ( or at least, shade a little to that side). Like they say in box lax, dont get beat top side ... If the O guy wants to go down the side - decreasing their angle with every step - let them.
That being said, with little kids I just say exactly what you said!
thx I won a game cause your series my team 5 vs 0 rockland house league thx for the tips =)
So I play forward but my coach said I’m switching to D so this is very helpful
Awesome tips even for a foreword like me
Trying these tips tonight! I always stared at the puck and got destroyed every time.. so frustrating lol
I know these things, but it’s so good to have a reminder, because damned if I don’t look down at the puck sometimes and go fishing!
The most simple yet helpful D tips....works every time. Even if you suck, these are a surefire way to piss off the forward lol 👌
I play goalie and defense so this was helpful
This should help
I'm 6'1 and I've got about a 9 foot reach poke check. Hiding the poke check is a really good tactic because one moment they think they have space and then it's "oh shit that's a 9 foot reach poke check" 😂
I'm only 5'6, but sometimes play D because I'm a good skater and most of our D-men are heavy and out of shape. But hiding the poke-check is something I've always done and it's extremely effective in my experience. Not having a long stick, I had to find a way to still be an effective poke-checker. Being an agile skater I can get closer to opponents and with the sneaky hide-the-poke move I surprise a lot of players, even some of the best stickhandlers in the league. It's because they don't really know where they can and cannot go with the puck, it throws them off also not knowing how close I have to be to them to reach the puck. Deadly tactic and oddly enough, I think it's vastly underused.
nice
Zayn Abusharbain I am right with you bud
Awesome Jeremy awesome, I've been watching the puck for like 2 months and everybody fakes me. Starting tonight I'm going to watch the chest and everybody's going to start crying 😁
Is it sir yarka... Which is in red jacket nd pant?
On defense when I poke check I hold my stick with my left hand(I’m a righty) and I bring it up and just smack the puck out of their hands
OK, now try these when the forwards are coming to you at top speed, and its a different proposition. Please can you make a video of how to effectively use your body, and how you should be skating to block the forwards drive to net. I play D for years in beer league, and the best I do is to force the guys to skate on the outside. But oftentimes they still outskate me. Sad face.
Hey I'm a right wing on my bantam team this year and am trying out for a high school team in the fall. Could you give me any tips that would prepare me as much as possible for next year?
Condition, Practice, Train, Eat right, Exercise.
Showing it to my 8 years old son and those tricks really works on the ice
the montreal canadians should watch this video there brutal!
Your spelling is brutal. It's THEY'RE , not "there".
I always see when I play defence that the offencman always dangles me and I'm left trailing, I stay with him but it always happens,do you have any advice. Thanks
And you want to watch his chest not the puck
+Sal C Yeah, take his body and take him off his feet.
Hey!, how do I know when to poke check, if I am watching his chest?
Matej Sobi from your chest, you can see where his arms and stick is going, then poke
Can't play hockey because of covid so I'm watching these
When I am defending, I often just smoke people, that works a lot of the time.
what are some good ways to get around defenders?
Defensemen always have the advantage if they match your speed. Best way to get around them is create a differential in speed that they can't comfortably keep up with and forcing them to transition. If you're not moving noticeably faster than the D, and you don't notice them making any obvious mistakes that you can take advantage of (like reaching with the stick, as in this video, or playing outside the dots leaving the inside lane open) it's usually best to find some room and wait for support in my experience, or dump it in if you really need to.
Biggest thing as a forward is to always try to gain the speed advantage before you even get the puck and try to never let the D control the gap as they please, use changes in speed, change your skating pattern etc. Also learn how to attack in layers as a team, so if the first player can't beat the D he can stop and pass to a trailer in order to keep control of the gap.
holobalobalo Awesome advice! You should put that in a video :)
The Hockey Movement Haha thanks. I have a couple videos up on another channel, but I'm still learning this stuff myself :3
+Tim Wiebe Get moving east and west and wait for the dummy to *try* to execute a (backwards) crossover. As soon as he (or she) starts to lift their foot, go the opposite way. Not only will you beat them, but they'll be embarrassed to death and reminded about it by their team mates for the rest of the night. It's really a game of see-saw.
hey gays, try to make a video about making good moves by skating
Typicall righty. Let go of the stick with both hands. ;)
You need the the other hand for balance and better pokechecks when you look at the chest
Whatch your man, not the puck, stay in front of him or in between him and the net. Try to lift his stick right before he does his next handle. Push and slash!
Hey I'm a defender in hockey u guys say to watch the chest but my coach tells me to watch the waist
They're both very similar. The point of the "watch the chest" or "watch the waist" is for you to not be focused on the puck. I'd tend to lean towards watching the waist as you have a better idea what the other guy is doing with the puck. The important thing to remember is to not overcommit.
🎉🎉🎉🎉
What about playing the body not the puck?
Defense wins championships
Why don't you guys do instructional goalie videos?
I am a defense
I used to get screamed at in high school for not engaging. It was a dammed if you do dammed if you dont thing.
you wanna watch the inside shoulder
This is defense 101
somebody tell these tips to the bots in EASHL
You don’t watch the chest because you can move your chest you should watch thee hips
Why you drive without a helmet?
:D
I find whenever the season starts, I catch myself looking at the puck. I’m watching this video to remind me not to
Dan’s a hottie 😋
Heres a tip Wear a freaking helmet
has clearly never played defence
