"Yulunga" is a song by the Australian-British neoclassical dark wave duo Dead Can Dance. It was released on their fifth studio album, Into the Labyrinth, in 1993.
The title of the song is derived from the Aboriginal word "julunggul", which is the name of a rainbow serpent creation deity in Aboriginal Australian mythology. The song's lyrics are sung in a variety of languages, including English, French, and Latin, and they evoke a sense of ancient mystery and spiritual longing.
Musically, "Yulunga" is a complex and atmospheric piece that features a variety of instruments, including didgeridoos, tablas, and duduk. The song's arrangement is both delicate and powerful, and it creates a sense of awe and wonder.
"Yulunga" is one of Dead Can Dance's most popular and enduring songs. It has been praised by critics for its beauty, its originality, and its spiritual depth. The song has also been used in a variety of films and television shows, including Baraka (1992) and The Crow: City of Angels (1996).
On one level, "Yulunga" can be seen as a celebration of Aboriginal culture and mythology. The song's lyrics evoke the beauty and power of the Australian landscape, and they pay homage to the Aboriginal people's deep connection to the land.
On a deeper level, "Yulunga" can be seen as a song about the universal human experience of spiritual longing. The song's lyrics speak to the desire to connect with something greater than ourselves, and they offer a glimpse of the possibility of transcendence.
"Yulunga" is a powerful and moving song that has resonated with listeners from all over the world. It is a song that is both timeless and timely, and it continues to inspire and uplift people to this day.

THIS is the only musical act which to me matters, because they have an amazing unique ability to completely transcend music performance to where it becomes more than just music, it becomes a meditation, a means to travel outside - or even inside - ones body, to places never even imagined.
I've been listening to and actively involved with creating music for well over 40 years and I have never heard of music output on such a level as what pours out of Dead Can Dance.
Once they are able to tour the states, I will make it a point to catch at least one performance, as I can only imagine how life changing that must be as well.

I was never in my life so deeply moved by any musical performance than I was while listening to/feeling this song that night. It truly embraced the depths of my soul and shook my spirit awake!

Felt so good reading that simple, yet wise comment! We've definitely lost our way, people trying to fill holes in their soul with trips to the shopping malls. So much anger and bitterness today, I fear it's going to take something calamitous for us to wake the hell up, to rediscover why we are here on earth.

This still sounds totally enchanting . i first heard it at a hole concert in 1995 as it was played when the lights went down before the band came on, but i didn't know what it was at the time. I happened to hear the song Rakim some years later so bought the album, then discovered this song was on it.

Do yourself a favor and rent/find a copy of the movie "Baraka" which is where all of this movie is taken from. You'll recognize some of the music for sure. The band Dead Can Dance is not from Italy, I suggest google or wiki them for Brandon Perry/Lisa Gerrard's origins. They broke up but very recently have gotten back together for a new album and world tour; I'll be seeing them in Nashville for my birthday. I am extremely excited to say the least.
