- Thinking of studying for a Masters? Watch this video for positives and negatives of doing it part time. There are important things to consider - financial (not all its cracked up to be!) and social implications, as well as things to think about for your future career.
This advice can apply to any Masters programme and isn't restricted to Animal Behaviour or conservation courses. I am also coming from a UK perspective but many points could apply to any masters programme.

Are you thinking of studying part time? Do you have any questions?
can a part time course only be done if you have a full time job?
@@era5950 no not at all, full time job, part time job, no job. It doesn’t matter what you do outside of your part time course hours, totally up to you! (A lot of people have varying degrees of jobs if they are having to pay for it themselves or purely to keep their careers going, family, other interests etc etc )
How often do you attend class in a part time course ? Can I work full time ? Do I need to be in class if I’m doing a part time course ?
Really honest and well thought out list! I’m ashamed to admit that I would’ve probably been put off by the thought of having to meet and get to know two cohorts, but actually that just means double the professional network!
Oh that’s a really good point! Perhaps I would have had it on the negative list if one of my groups were “bad”, I definitely did miss my first year group and was nervous to meet the newbies, but they were so different that it did make me appreciate having both experiences. Also yes to “professional network” that would be good to add on to the list!
Thank you, I am debating whether to do a Masters by Research part-time or full-time, and I am definitely thinking part-time now. I get stressed very easily and I would like the time to read and do the dissertation to the best of my ability. A year just doesn't feel like it'd be enough for me to cram it all in. I like having more free time to just breathe and relax, also.
You are welcome :) Part time sounds like it would be a good idea for you. Best of luck with it!
Thanks so much for your video. You sure just helped me decide what I really want to do. Plus am also into conservation could you recommend some good schools I can check out?? Will really appreciate.
I was curious to know how this all relates to American international students as well. I'm hoping to start postgrad at the university of York next year but am unsure if I should do full or part time. Do you have any advice? Thanks for the great video!
My problem being my mental health makes it difficult to do college at all...and man all careers i want will require me to be in debt and scraping by permanently. But i wanna do what i like!!!!!! So ill keep making plans and accepting they may sometimes require clawing my way back to stable ground
I hope you can get the support you need to go after the career that you feel is right for you! It is true money wise it’s not an easy route but it’s not impossible! Try and do a cost/benefit analysis of all of your options and see which fits the best for you! Good luck!!
It’s nice 👍 I too want to do part time masters
