An real time boat ride down the primary canal (Tarpon Inlet) ruining north-south through Punta Gorda Isles (PGI) in Punta Gorda, FL. Tarpon Inlet, from the Marion Ave bridge north, provides sailboat and powerboat access to the Peace River, Charlotte Harbor, and access to the Gulf of Mexico. You can seen many beautify waterfront homes in PGI that can accommodate a large bigger draft powerboats and sailboats in their backyards.

I love that area and the area surrounding Port Charlotte. I have a question about bugs! Here in NY we have some areas that we have to go long distances in a 5mph zone and get MURDERED by gnats and mosquitos that live in the exposed seaweed on the sea wall at low tide when it is exposed. Do you have this problem? What about in Port Charlotte? There are areas there that are not seawalled and even some tropical areas with overhanging trees. I could see that being a real deal breaker if you had a long slow crawl from your "water front" paradise to open bay.

Paul, sorry for the delayed response. Charlotte County is phenomenal about spraying for mosquitos regularly (especially during the wet season- Summer.). If you experience an issue with mosquitos, you can always contact Public Works Mosquito & Aquatic Weed Control Division at 941.764.4370 and press 1.

Hi Steve. If you have a seawall, no- as gators are not climbers. However, if you live in a lower lying waterfront area without a seawall, you may get a visitor. Gators are usually only in the area during mating season.
