On Monday the 17th of June I was thrilled to meet and chat with Margie Fischer, from the Feast Queer Youth Drop In. I was even happier to make the third big donation from The Concrete Connection Project.
The Feast Queer Youth Drop In is a safe, social supportive space for 15- 25 year old LGBTIQ+ youth to meet and engage in activities aimed at improving their sense of wellbeing, mental health, confidence, connection and positive identity.
Drop In young people identify as LGBTIQ+, non binary or gender diverse. Some are neurodiverse or on the autism spectrum, have mental health issues, disabilities, difficulty being accepted at school, at risk of homelessness and unemployed.
Drop In workers and young people are involved in planning arts activities led by queer artists that are fun, develop ideas and skills, affirm personal self expression, group interaction.
Drop In Activities include theatre games, creative writing, Dungeons and Dragons, a wide variety of craft, cos play, Dungeons and Dragons guest speakers, celebrating International Transgender Day of Awareness, IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Bi Phobia and Transphobia, cooking and eating!
QYDI enables queer young people to pursue their interests, learn and showcase their talents, raise issues of concern to them and act on issues that affect their lives.
Each Drop In has a facilitator, a support worker and guest artist all paid a fee plus materials. The Coordinator and community elders donate their time to make dinner
Drop In is funded by Gay Bingo which happens every Sunday night at the Mylk Bar, occasional tax deductible donations and small grants.
I love what the Drop In stands for and the way they are helping the community. I am really glad to of made this connection and donation.
