The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio, is home to a singular collection of Jimi Hendrix artifacts that help tell his story, from his boyhood days in Seattle, Washington, through his meteoric rise to superstardom.
In this clip, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum curatorial director Howard Kramer tells the story behind two of the guitars featured in the Rock Hall's Jimi Hendrix exhibit: the 1967 Gibson Flying V dubbed "Love Drops" and the 1960s 12-string Zemaitis acoustic made famous when Hendrix played it in the 1973 movie "A Film About Jimi Hendrix." - Hudba
that footage of him playing that 12 string acoustic guitar on a stool is priceless.....
I agree! I always wondered why he didnt use the acoustic more? I came to the conclusion that all his influences had done it already and he only wanted to take the blues HIGHER!!
I remember when I went to that part of that exaibit I saw his v from across the room I walked up to it getting goosebumps I was in Aw I grew up with jimmy always being played The vibe I got off that v was one of the best musical experiences of my 18 years of life
If you want to see the strat that Jimi played at Woodstock, it's in the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle, which was created by the late Paul Allen. Beautiful guitar.
I'd love to see it but unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever be able to get to the states. If I ever do, Seattle would definitely be a port of call, love the Grunge vibe from my formative years, Soundgarden in particular are a fantastic band.
When I was there what got me was they have the outfit he wore at the Isle of Fehrman which was the last show he played week and a half before he died. That patch work jacket and the purple pants and boots. I lost it...😥
When I went they even had his own couch it was green I think
FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS....THE MAN WITH THE GUITAR!
I would pass out in that room
Check the EMP in Seattle.
I went a few yrs back, it would kill you..
I understand why 🤣😄
I am fortunate enough to have actually played Jimi's hand painted Flying V. The owner at the time was a man from the north of England who had this guitar and had bought it very cheaply not knowing what he had. When he realised he had this guitar he wrote to the Hendrix family and had it authenticated. I played it at a guitar exhibition at the Station Hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne some time about 1994 or 95 or 96 I think. I played Cross Town Traffic and Purple Haze. Got to say I loved every second, very fast neck. It had a cigarette burn just above the nut presumably where Jimi would stash a cigarette or joint while playing. The owner wasn't there at the time but the man there showed me a copy of the letter of authentication. Was lucky that day as I also got to play one of Paul Kossoff's Les Paul Gold Top' s.
I hate you, deeply.
I love you, deeply.
@@Diax1324 i don,t blame you!
, why thank you!
great story
I love Hendrix I want to see the guitars so cool
Jimi was my first inspiration as far as electric guitar. I play left handed and have right handed guitars customized. It makes a difference having the volume, tone knobs, pickup switch and tremelo bar right under the palm of your hand. I play quite a bit of different types of music but the debt I owe Jimi Hendrix is one I'll never be able to repay - just to think; it all began ( for me ) with the Wind Cries Mary - Thank you SOOOO much Jimi !!!
It's unfortunate that its hard to find good lefty guitars but getting to play a Strat like Jimi more than makes up for it IMO.
RIP Hendrix
too short, like putting a block of heroin in front of an addict, then taking the whole damn thing away………..
marcy Denville 😂😂😂😂
Yep...😂
Any guitar that has footage of Jimi playing it is worth minimum of 500.000-1.000.000 dollars.
Sure would've been nice to hear Albert King and Jimi Hendrix jam out with Flying Vs
Wow my goodness yes! What a thought! Got King and Srv jam which is brilliant on CZcams somewhere.
pretty guitars,phantastic
Guitar God
There will never be another RIP
Linda Keith, not Chas Chandler
What is the clip that he plays with this flying v at 0:47?
...Dig!
crazy that he sanded off that painting and someone had to repaint it back on.
What Happened To Jimi Hendrix's Marshall Amps ? His Corvette ? and Stomp Box's ?
A lot of his gear was either stolen or sold off. Stevie Ray Vaughn for instance had & gigged with one of Jimi's old wah pedals.
Man i would love to get ahold of Bob Marley's guitar that he recorded "Redemption Song" with. He apparently used the same guitar in a lot of recordings and concerts for a long time I've heard. I can't remember what his reason for it was but i know there is a story behind it.
Jimi owned two Corvettes. The first one he wrecked (in California), the second one was sold after his death. I'd love to know if it's still in existence.
All guitars that Jimi used are well known, but once, in a record shop i saw a poster of Jimi with an aqua foam green strat with a telecaster neck (!), but i never saw this picture again nowhere, it was 30 years ago. Someone knows about it ? what concert was it ?
The fucking intro destroyed my ear drums
Wonder if that guitar is still in tune.
Can you guys do cliff burtons bass
He played both left and right handed guitars off stage.
Hey on your credits at the end the date for the "Film abut Jimi Hendrix" is wrong. The film came out in 1973, not 1969. The 12 string footage was originally shot in BBC studios.
What kind of pickups did the Gibson Flying V have?
I with he talked about his lefty 1969 strat
I did not know that 12 string was a Zemaitis. Huh cool 😎
1:37
Wtf happened to the top two strings??
The moratorium comes off Jimi's music in less than two years. See y'all in Seattle then.
Please someone tell me what the very last song is called !
skobedigatch "Hear My Train A Comin'" from the movie Jimi Hendrix. It's on the album Blues
How, and why would someone sand off the painted part by Jimi, when Jimi gave that dude the guitar. I know it was his and he could do what he wanted to....but really? lmao
Jonny ogy what a fucking idiot eh
Jonny ogy absolute sacrilege !
He had money troubles in 73 and didn't want to be the guy selling hendrix's guitar so he painted it black and sold it. The story of how the guy who bought the guitar in the 90s and found out it was Jimi's V is pretty neat down the the scratch in the headstock from hitting a cymbal on french TV performance. He then repainted it to match the Hendrix paint job.
@@racecarbed Yeah I remember talking to Mick about it. He had a few personal problems and the guitar helped fund them. He regretted it from the moment he sold it. He told loads of amazing stories about Jimi.
Also mention ranked one since last 51 years
A the beginning of the video we can hear the original version of Crosstown Traffic
What's the name of the song at the start
Crosstown Traffic
So there is still guitars of Mimi's about
I thought this was about Hendrix guitars and then i mean all of them which wasnt that many.
SG custom 1967 where is?Les Paul custom 1955 where is?
no one should have ever repainted the flying V. - now they should sand it to the wood, that way it would be more close to being Hendrix-- if they want a painted V just make a copy-
instruments to never be played again... i believe the instrument is more important than anyone that played it,,, all musical halls of fame are houses of death
crazy question here how did he plug that guitar isnt the plug thing by the knobs right under his arm? i am not a guitar tech but wont the guitar plug get on the way ? in this vid i cant see the plug anyways
The fact the V was sanded it absolutely blasphemy... Wow, can't believe he did that after receiving it from Jimi... What. The. FK!?
I wonder what he used to paint the flying v?
He used nail polish to paint it in a hotel one night.
Thanks
Chris Shaw whattttt!? Really!? Do u by any chance have a link?
amistry605 www.gibson.com/absolutenm/templates/_gibsonnewstemplate.aspx?articleid=760
There's also 2 Hendrix flying v custom gibsons on ebay and a guy selling a hand painted one
clowntrooper61 You're a God....... Thank you
0:38
Music? Please?
Voodoo child
Its too late for that since I already found the song on my because no one wants to tell me!!!!
But thanks anyway...
You shouldn’t have to be told the name of that song.
He started playing before age 16.
That Fender Stratocaster on the far left is not an authentic Hendrix guitar because he never used a left handed Fender guitar. He always used right handed guitars flipped upside down and restrung. The only left-handed guitar he ever used was a Gibson flying V custom model. Clapton was going to give him one but he never got the chance to because Jimi died.
MAGNIFICOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
PAUSE the video at any point close up on any of these guitars, eg, at 1 minute 54 seconds, and tell me what you see that doesn't jive with what you thought you knew about Jimi Hendrix?
JUST DONT SEE IT
I've watched his acoustic set many times but my curiosity got me. Watched it again, paused at said time and . . . nothing. No new notions, no epiphany; nothing. So what exactly are you seeing? Please no CZcams conspiracy theories, just explain; if you can.
I think this dude thinks Jimi played with the strings reversed also.
Same day I heard who knows, I bought my first guitar
I came up with an idea Jimi forgot to add to be his Flying V, if anybody saw it they'd agree yeah man that's just right. I did it to mine.
to be his ?
How was Jimi given a guitar at age 16 on November 27th 1942?? That's the day he was born... He wasn't 16...
He said "Born November 27th 1942, he was given his first guitar at age 16"
Ahh simple misunderstanding lol. Thanks for clearing that up
Devon Felix he started at 16!!! Unbelievable
his first electric, i think. he was jamming on a wooden guitar before that. i don;t know if he owned it. i heard it was a neighbor's.
Means nothing compared to what he was and did.
They got the pyramids in.
Did anyone ever salvage pcs of his guitar from Monterey Pop Festival that he torched & smashed?? How much would that be worth?? 🤔
Possumlove👍🏾 🎸
Someone gave it to the late great Frank Zappa who rebuilt and played it, then later gave it Dweez. I think it was auctioned off for charity.
Its association with Frank meant that Steve Vai & Adrian Belew played it too. So four of the best guitar players in the world and Dweezil who's no slouch himself, spent considerable time with that chunk of wood.
That is THE Holy Grail Guitar! (IMHO)

Incorrect, the only known piece of the painted Monterey Strat is/was owned by Paul Allen before he passed. It was routinely on display at the EMP museum in Seattle. If you watch the footage of Jimi Playa Monterey, you'll see him throw the neck and pieces out into the crowd... That neck is somewhere and hopefully it surfaces, it's painful to think if it became lost thru the years.... Maybe slapped onto someone's Strat and now is forgotten where it came from... The Zappa strat is only rumored to have been owned and burnt by Jimi on another occasion.
...the flying V ...after being sanded ...should've been left alone ....because that's part of the story ....no one wants to see something hand painted if it wasn't Jimmy ....
...not to mention the strat.lol
so you are telling us Jimi had 4 Guitars, one from his Dad, a Strat, the flying V and the acoustic. yea, right :D
probably the weakest video with Hendrix in the title on youtube.
Make the video longer if there’s so fucking much to fit in, slow down man 😂
jimi at times isnt treated PROPERLY!!!!!! NOT HERE ANYWAY.`57 is the yr. when his mom passes,& his father AL gives jimi his 1st aXe.DAMN!!!!!
