New life sim game "Life By You" has been cancelled. Paradox have pulled the plug on the game like "The Sims" InZOI , ParaLives, Sims 5 remain in development #shorts #gaming
I'm no business expert, but seems like with how far it was, there must have already been quite a lot of money invested in it. Like the risk was already taken? Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me
If they realise that under the hood it’s a hot mess, and they can’t spend years fixing it post launch, it may be better to cut losses. Throwing good money after bad is a common mistake. Add that we don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes. There’s likely some drama and politics going on internally too.
@@zomnut6102 no need for conspiracy theories the game was simply FAR from being finished, it seems like some mechanics were not there and I think they said something about the graphics, they were very unfinished and honestly just ugly, also paradox have multiple game that have failed these last couple of years and it was probably what was going to happen with life by you or like they said they made to much mistakes with life by you and the game would probably never have meet their expectations
So reading what one of the devs said, it's clear they cancelled the game cause Paradox is currently hemorrhaging funds and could not make this game profitable with DLC. Apparently the studio surpassed every internal metric to release the game and even offered to go indie, but Paradox Interactive refused to let them. And then they found out they were fired through a post on the official paradox forums by the CEO.
Wow that's so horrible! Refused to let them go indie? Does that mean they'll be legally unable to release the game under a different publisher? Even if they make it a really different version? 😔 I'm so sad, this is legit the game I was most looking forward to play 😭
@@thewirerwin69420 I'm answering assuming good faith here. In this case, it means that the studio pulls the plug and the game stops being made/isn't released. It's not people trashing it online.
One of the devs was pissed and quoted saying that they wanted to go fire and brimstone, but chose to remain respectful (under threat of legal action), but did say that you can 'exceed expectations, have AA backing and still have the rug pulled out from under you two weeks before launch'. According to them, they were doing more than well financially and had actually received at least double, if not more, than what they were anticipating. Something doesn't sit right. Either this dev is lying or something fishy is going on, but given Paradox's track record at this point, I'm not keen on blaming the devs because there's no way this is happening across multiple games and somehow it's all the devs faults across multiple games? I'm not buying it. They're throwing their devs under the bus by blaming them for 'lacking development' and then threatening them with legal action if they try to defend themselves. They're using the law to silence them..
The thing that sucks the most is nobody else can use the game. Paradox refused to allow the game to be indie, and all of the team was fired. Nobody has access to this game to continue work on it.
EA doesn't own Paradox games and doesn't have a stake or investment in the game's development. Not all games revolve around THAT company. Especially a US company.
LilSimsie said it just didn't feel like it was made for life sim players, more for gta players. So, I guess they got some bad reviews and it made them extra cautious. I still think the modding support alone would have carried thr game and they should have released it
no, the obvious answer is that the game was not there under the hood and release an extremely rough early access game when they have two much more polished competitors coming down the pipe didnt make sense. The game had 5 years of development, was still ugly, and not coming together, throwing good money after bad is one of the most common business and financial mistakes people make, they made the right call I'm sure
So like about 50% of all games out there, and about 99% of anything that labels itself "this really successful big franchise BUT BETTER" they overestimated, kept the lie going as long as they could and then crumbled.
But the game was better once players got their hands on it the mods alone would have pulled in so many players the worlds alone would have been insane.
I wasn't convinced by this game anyway because it's just really ugly. I'm sad for everyone who worked on the game tho and wish them well because this must be a harsh blow rn.
Almost as if they create games for only one person to enjoy. I'm not convinced of any game out there because they eventually get repetitively boring, but hey, that don't change much either
Why cancel it when they were already so far in? Doesn’t make any sense. Why not delay it until next year or 2 years when they feel confident? That's just stupid to cancel it entirely
it's cheaper for them to just pull the plug, the game missed multiple release dates. after 5 years it was still not ready for player consumption. if they released in to EA they would have had to support it for years while being lambasted with negative reviews. if they release in to EA then shut down production then they take even more of a reputation hit
i'm sure the developers on the team saw the value in delaying release and completing it, but when it comes to a company, bosses make money cuts wherever they think will save money or is too risky.
honestly, if it's money they're worried about, they could try making a kickstarter to gauge interest and have a little more fuel for the project. obviously kickstarter is more for indie games than companies, but i think the project is promising enough that a lot of people would be okay with chipping in.
It's important to note that alot of games recently have been getting extremely bad reviews from gamers and paradox being a rather large publisher who is already dealing with less than stellar releases on multiple fronts probably doesn't want to deal with another cities skylines 2
Eh, it was the only upcoming life sim I don’t look forward to. But I feel sorry for the devs that put so many hours of work into it for it to be cancelled. I do think it would have been a flop though. It just didn’t look appealing at all. It looked and felt like a 2000s cheap simulation game that you would find in one of those discount boxes while shopping.
I just heard an hour ago. I guess the beta didn’t do well and they didn’t want to release a sub-par game. On another note, I loved seeing the first installment of Sims at the end of this clip ❤ We’ve come a long way!
It didn’t help that Reddit and other social media platforms had people outraging days before their planned release. People were really making a fuss, paradox and investors definitely saw and didn’t want this to reflect poorly on the company and investors didn’t want to waste their money anymore. I think if they pushed their early access they would’ve been somewhat okay and could’ve kept working on the game. not saying peoples criticism was unwarranted but at a certain point it was getting way too much, every hot post on r/lifesim and on the LBY subreddit totally trashing the game. it definitely hurt their chances of making an early access.
damn i was looking forward to it. not to mention the addition of competition in the lifesim genre would put pressure on ea to make a better product with less predatory monetization. bummer news
I mean… EA crafted the sims games over many many years, adding bits, taking bits away, paradox attempted to not just match but beat the sims in much less time with a (dare i say) less experienced team in this field of games.
I think ea is trying to run a monopoly on that style of game, they price gouge their players. They know the second anything cheaper and of equal effort/popularity comes out they’re screwed. The sims 4 is almost completely empty without mods or dlc. The dlcs are minimum 30-60 dollars each, and don’t do much.
I told everyone this would fail because I work in graphic design, I can tell it was all premade assests from a million miles away. ppl wanted to fight me about can suck myyyy dddddd. I told you!
Paralives is an indie project so the only way the game could ever be cancelled is if the team gives up on it or they run out of funding but either scenario is unlikely given the massive sucess of their patreon and all the time and love they've already put into the game
Well, I'm still fine cause I kinda knew that Life By You wasn't going to be a thing, i saw too many life simulators with the same vibe going downhill fast. The next life simulator that I'm ready to invest on is Paralives. I'll never give my money to EA again and Paralives is making the task so much easier 👀
usually try not to play the cynic but if im entirely honest im not that surprised. life by you looked like something between too good to be true and looking (and sounding) straight up trashy in a way that some very pretty, very promising mmos are.
With them being the only main competitor, I'm sure they were a hugeeeeeee factor of why they can't release confidently. Whether it's directly affected or indirectly affected, EA most definitely affects it. Industry leaders are almost alwayssss mean and want to keep empires they build
@@EddieVillamor well obviously they were a factor, this game literally branded themselves as a competitor of the sims 4 instead of just trying to make a life sim that can actually compete… but people are acting like there’s some conspiracy and EA somehow had a game two weeks away from release canceled. EA does seemed threatened by the new life sims games popping up, they have even put out a statement to players saying they’re committed to making the game better, but they don’t have the power to cancel a game, if they did it never would’ve gotten as close to release as it did, and i’m sure they would’ve been more concerned with para lives, since that game has a clearer vision and actually looks like it could be a big competitor one day, it’s also a lot less ugly than life by you.
Life simulators are hard to make, the game probably lacked too many content to be good or something close to the sims. They probably decided to cancel bc of the money and time it would take and how life sims can fail really easily
