Yellow box junctions are normally found on busy roads and are there to help traffic flow. Knowing the rules about yellow box junctions is important if you're going to avoid possibly getting fined.
You're not allowed to stop in a box junction unless you're turning right and are prevented from turning because of oncoming traffic. Your exit road needs to be clear. If it isn't then you have to stop before the yellow box junction.

I've had quite the driving journey. I first started to learn when I was 23/24 but stopped after a while and then some 15 years later I picked it up again last year. After two bad experiences with separate driving schools, I chose World Driving after I saw the CZcams channel.
Many, many hours later with some struggles in between, I passed my test on my first attempt today, Feb 14th with three minors. Huge thanks to Chris who is patient, encouraging and very easy to learn with. I'll miss our lessons in a way but relieved that I am finally a licensed driver. It was definitely worth it in the end! I would recommend Chris as an ideal instructor no matter what your standard is, so don't hesitate to choose world driving if you are based in the area.
This is a super rare lesson, thank you. Driving since 2018, never actually knew this.

trying my 8th test this week, hope i pass, i found your videos super useful and i think i got this
Ohhhh, I didn’t know it was ok to enter if turning right. I was stuck on Purley Way and it was impossible to turn with oncoming traffic. Lights changed 3 times, got beeped at from queuing traffic behind me, I then decided I’d rather choose another junction than risk getting fined for entering a box junction!
Although they allow traffic to flow and prevent collisions they're also cash cows for greedy councils! You can be done for entering and stopping on them even if the lights are green and you're not obstructing traffic. I stopped on one on a green light and quickly manoeuvred off onto the side of the road by the driveway off houses and then into a nice little inlet off a business park waiting to join the traffic once it started moving again. I thought I was ok until I got that horrid brown letter which highlighted my misdemeanor! My head was boiling with rage as I was already thinking of challenging it, then to my utter relief I read the top of the letter WARNING NOTICE!

I waited on it , on a straight road it wasn’t blocking any oncoming traffic , thought there was space to avoid being over it , ended up waiting on it , was worried case I’ll be fined , but it was night time hopefully not 😂

The problem as I see it is if the exit road is clear but then left turning vehicles take up the space. Could you please advise what to do in this situation?
I have been fined for turning right and stopping on a box junction as someone on the left drove and suddenly blocked my way. I had no option left and waited there nearby to a major road the traffic on my right had been blocked as I could not find a space to complete my turn to the right and got penalty in a week time. I would definitely wait behind the line even on green light if I know it. So highway codes needs to be updated.
Needs updating 👍 Ya can now get a fine turning right in a box junction, outside Lidls are well known for it . Got a fine the other week, weren't allowed to turn right at certain times, sign on left was blocked by a bus but also very close to a major crossroads.

In my experience box junctions are there for dpd drivers to sneak into a row of stationary traffic🤔
I passed my test now two weeks ago and I’ve been spending a lot of time searching for my car. My budget is around £10k max so that gives me options and I might go for the mazda 6 but it's a huge saloon car so probably not the best choice?
ANYWAY, I do need to start driving again very soon and am even thinking about renting a car from enterprise. Just to practice. Is this is a good idea? To be honest I am quite nervous at the thought of finally driving on my own.
The problem is I don’t have family/friends who have a car that I can use and be insured on, so I do need to buy a car ASAP.
Congratulations on passing your test. Maybe consider getting a smaller car first, then you can always upgrade it. If you also can rent one to start with, that is also a great idea.

What if, while you are waiting to turn right having moved onto a box junction, the lights go red?
You must complete the turn even though the light is now red. Once you have crossed the stop line and moved into the box junction, you must clear the junction even if you do it at the end of the light cycle, otherwise you will be blocking traffic once the lights change.
