Nothing like Chevys first big block in a car for 1958s. Great engine but many did not understand they couldn't turn the RPMs like their small block counter parts. 348s and 409s were great engines and are very hard to find these days.

I opened the vent window and threw it out. Then he took off from a green light and hammered it to the floor. That engine sound still stays with me to this day! We later went to a Ford Dealership. He test drove. A 64 new Hi-po Ford Fairlane. The smaller version with a 289 and a 4-speed. White with red interior. Man, What a day for a little kid to remember. Back in the 50’s...starting in ‘55 they radically changed the styling every year. In the mid 60’s it was every two years.. The ‘58 was truly a beautiful car. My favourites were the 2 door hard tops then

Family car late 1957 was 58 Belair. Four door. First one on showroom floor in town where we lived. 348 4 barrel automatic. 10 MPG. Needed high test to run properly. Dad usually used Amoco White gas. Passed down to me at 15. I donated points off my driver's license to my state in this car!! Otherwise good date car with big back seat. Notice clock is located on passenger side. Ours had quit working and was never repaired. However when I dated clock ran when my date was in the car. Sounds strange, but true. Car been gone since 1968.I think it would have been a good "Christine" if a Plymouth Fury had not been Stephen King's version. From the front it did look fearful enough.

Absolutely beautiful car! Love those colors. This was one of 17,112 Bel Air Sport Coupes built in '58. If I had to make a guess as to how many survivors of this model, I would say less than 200. Factory price was $2447 for a 6, and $2554 for a V-8. Shipping weight was 3455 for a 6, and 3458 for a V-8.
