- An American's view on living in Norway vs living in the United States of America.
Watch until the end to hear a heartfelt Norwegian message for Norwegian people.
Watch exclusive, vertical videos about Norway and Norwegian food, culture, language, etc on the Lifey app!
They spend long time on their meals
Norwegians: Grandiosa mandagspizza
takes longer than most american drive thru's xD
The way we Norwegians use utensils is literally the way everyone in the world does it except Americans.
is it me or did this channel pop out of nowhere
Since you have Norway in your name, for this to end up in the algorithm isn't very far fetched.
hahahah jo
jupp so true
They've rebranded this channel, it was called 'Prepare to Serve' or something similar before. This is a repost/remix of one of their videos from 2015.
Agree
:-) - I am Danish but understood every word you said in Norwegean - good going! Norwegeans are very well thought of here in Denmark, my country and language ... All from Nordic countries are very popular here - although we love to tease eachother :-)
"They will do ANYTHING for you?" Wow, those are dedicated friends. lol.
We will tho
Anything but saying nice things about the Swedes. There's a line we're not willing to cross
That woman you gave a compliment to was for sure very rude. Of course some people don’t wanna chit-chat but that can be true for anyone. At least you can reply politely and be a bit short. Don’t take that personally.
Pinnekjøtt is salted, then hang up to air-dry. Then we need to put it in water for ca 24 hour before we cook it(steaming)
The celebration of Christmas (jul) "jol" in older days way back before religion hit Norway was a celebration to have a breake in the dark cold winter and that we turn more towards the sun.
17th of May is not Independence Day, it’s Constitution Day
we love love love to go to our winter cabins/Lodge, not out of country during easter
Norway 🇳🇴 💕💕💕💕💕
Hvor er det norske folket?
Ute og feirer nyttår! #2020 🇳🇴
Every single thing she said described my Great Grandmom to a “T”! She was the strongest, sweetest, loving, funniest woman in the world! Oh and she was the BEST cook and baker EVER! However she was a die hard Christian
i have lived in USA for 6 years, and the fork up side down comment was so funny to me hahaha , i think its the right way for evetone else than Americans hahaha
I have to say your Norwegian at the end was very impressive! I'm Swedish though, but could actually not hear any difference from a native Norwegian. Greetings! :)
Wow, your Norwegian is very good! Your practice and repetitions of the pronouncement of the words has really payed of :-) I am impressed. And thank you for all your nice words about our country. And by the way, the woman on the bus was rude! Most Norwegians would never have answered you like that.
Our country is still called by the name of Ceylon because we everybody does not forget the earlier name and our parents names and also the nature of the country which provides the food including of sea food.
Norway is so beautiful like the people But beer 🍺 is expensive greeting from 🇮🇪
Wooah...I met this lovely girl her when she approached me while in Stavanger and we ended up having a nice chat. I'm still a Lutheran but appreciated the exchange none the less. Amazing grasp of Norwegian as all mormon missionaries tend to have.
Her Norwegian is amazing! Considering she's an American it's even more impressive since it can be difficult hitting the right tones and nail the stress. Stå på!!
Edit: idk why, but all the people on this channel who lived in Norway look super Norwegian lol
"Pinnekjøtt" is lambs belly, dried and salted. When you cook it you place sticks of birch in the bottom of your cauldron. Add a little water, add the meat and let it cook until the meat leaves the bones. Serve with swede mashed and the cherished norwegian almond potato and you're home free! :-)
I remember from Twin Peaks, Lucy, the girl behind the counter in the sheriffs office discussed it. She called it forking, the way Europeans use their utensils. It is so interesting listening to this young woman. it feels like she is trying to be overly polite towards Norwegians, but I actually think she means what she is saying!
23th december is "little christmas eve" in norwegian it's called lille julaften. on little christmas we prepare for christmas eve and just relax with our family. 24th december is Christmas eve.. this is the BIG day when we eat a GREAT dinner, after that is dessert and after the dessert we open the gifts. 25, 26 and 27th december is 1, 2 and 3 christmas day. those days is when we go out and drink a LOT of alcohol and just party with our friends.. those nights the streets are packed with drunk millenials and you cant even breathe when your in the clubs. Gosh I love those days..
The way you described Norwegians eating with utensils is normal (I’m American by the way).
1:24 that's a great observation. never really thought of that
The woman that told you she would not talk to you was very rude, that is not common to act like that. I would gladly talk to you and even show you around, and you are very beautiful 💖. Your Norwegian is also very good, you talk with an Oslo like dialect.
Wow this girl is amazing, so Nice in a way I rarely see here in norway. The Norwegian was so good spoken, so correct and even sounds a bit like they speak in Oslo. So Nice Message at the end :-)
The dialect in Trondheim is called «trøndersk)
*trøndsk
i think the reason the the woman on the train said she didn't want to talk to her was because we Norwegians LOVE to be unsocial and daydream on busses and trains. thats the reason we often take up to seats.. we just want to sit alone, listening to music, daydreaming an just minding our own business on the busses and trains
The way you decribed usage of utensils - I believe just about everybody aside from east asia eats that way, also aside from the US that is... :-)
Its so fun getting described by a happy girl:-) Everyday for us is detailed out by her.
For me as a Norwegian this is so much fun to watch. You explain the traditions in a very good and respectful way
Halla :P I have been watching ceveral of these types of videos about norway and I have to ask, why do they all bring up "Lutefisk" ? "nobody" eat it! xD It
s disgusting! xD Pizza Grandiosa ;)

Syttende Mai is to celebrate Norway's independence from Sweeden, just like July 4th here in the US :)
Written is written. Speech is speech. Bokmål (book language) is written. Dialects are speech. Nobody speak written bokmål even tho it's a common opinion even among Norwegians.
You speak very good Norwegian. I enjoyed this, thank you.
Wonderful to listen to observation of the norwegian society. And your norwegian is close to perfect.
Mirror. We are a mirror. The feelings we send from us come back. Take care !
you have icecream trucks, we have a fish truck! comes around every few months and we buy fish from him!
Bokmål is our standarized writing dialect. No one speaks bokmål. They speak something close to bokmål in the oslo area but deffienty not all of norway speaks that.
You are so right about the utensils.. But we don't care so much if you do it differently.. 😊
If any one could talk me in to religion, you would be that person😊. Hope all is going the way you want. Take care👍
Thank you.
Speaking of the devine, I'm positive those eyes could make me believe in a great many things. Takk for gode ord om folket og landet vårt.

continuous as below, Trondheim commune. We have to have little more from the scandinavian countries even from Finland and Ice land that we need not to neglect as well . And remember every body likes to travel by the boat and ship even ride the boat self , that we definitely do not want to neglect Norway and Sweeden.
I heard Norwegian's are really shy and private. Then how would you make this loyal friend?
Tusen Takk

There is two languages in Norway.
Norwegian and sami.
Yup. And what she was refferring to with bokmål, is one of the 2 written languages.
There is one more language in Norway. Its called Kvensk and is from Finnish descendends.
And you also have the gypsy language.
Just to start, because this usually goes unnoticed, there is also the Sami Language! Most of Norway is Sami territory, so there isn’t just Norwegian.
Kjøttkaker is soooo good like if ur norwigan
Isn't it normal to use the fork like that? Jaja
Bokmål is just a writingstyle not a dialect

Most live in the south because of howharsh the weather can get in the North
Norway was a Christian country up until just a couple of years ago actually. That is why we have so many Christian traditions, even to this day every person born in this country is automatically put into the state church register (as far as i know) even against their parents wishes.
And Christmas is called 'jul' as it is kinda based on old norse joule and is therefore not a pure Christian tradition unlike many other countries.
I think you are so beautiful
3 languages. Bokmaal, nynorsk and sami.
