RWRB was indeed a book before, and although it is a pretty good adaption it did make the grave error of not putting in the scene where the president makes a powerpoint titled "Exploring Your Sexuality: Healthy, but Does It Have To Be with the Prince of England?" after Alex comes out to her, which in my opinion is unforgivable

I also think it’s a crime they cut out all the side characters basically. Like even with the ones that are actually in the movie, we don’t really get any background info. They are really bland compared to the book. The book really should’ve been made into tv show in my opinion. There’s just too much good plot and characters for it to fit neatly into a movie. Although I liked the movie, the book was just so great and just so much more fun.

as fun as the movie is, the book just hit it out of the park for me, especially with the side characters and the character development of both Henry and Alex. it’s obviously impossible to perfectly adapt a full length novel in a 1,5 hour movie and they did as best as they could but the book is just so incredibly fun and special to me. if you enjoyed the movie, you’re going to LOVE the book!!

@@persgodiva Yesssss. Book Alex pissed me off so much. Maybe it's because I watched the movie before reading the book, but I also hated how the romantic Paris sex scene in the movie was just drunk sex in the books.
It's a cheesy romcom for the gays and we are here for it. We didn't get cheesy romcoms growing up. It's not some deep movie but it had me crying because I could see myself in those characters. I felt represented. I got something I never had growing up. So no, it's not some cinematic masterpiece, but it was just what I needed.

Omg that's also my hometown. I literally worked in the area and can't believe I didn't notice a film crew or anything during filming. I only watched the movie for the hometown rep but I had a hard time sitting through it haha. Purple Hearts was sponsored by Camp Pendleton and they had final say over the script which is no surprise that the movie was basically just Marine propaganda. 😐 I don't blame him for taking on the role tho especially as a relatively new actor at the time- he did a great job at making me hate his character 😅

Girl! when I tell you the book surprised me even more. I devoured it over an 8-hour flight. The writer basically thought of this alternate reality where a woman won after the 2016 debacle that happened in real life. The book is a definite recommend from me.
there's a bonus chapter in the book that shows their life a few year after these events (if you're planning on reading it don't read this comment).
They do long distance for a while than move in together in a brownstone in new York, they get engaged and eventually move to a house in the middle of nowhere in Texas to be able to live a peaceful life. Author also comfirmed that they see them having kids in their mid/late thirties (i haven't read the book for a good year now so, people in the comments, correct me if i'm wrong.)
It was the Rio Olympics, and what Henry REALLY said was, "Can you get rid of him?"
Henry's explanation is mostly true to the book, with a few details left out:
His father was a James Bond actor, and they were specifically visiting the cancer ward, in his honor.

Additionally, if she does decide to read the book I would HIGHLY recommend getting the collectors edition of the book as it does have an epilogue chapter in Henry's perspective that does go over what happens after the events of the main story... As that is what Ashley was asking about at the end of the movie like what happens next??? the epilogue chapter will tell you! It's so good!!!

When alex describes henry as white, blonde and british it kind of is a punch to the gut but it’s also because if u read the book everyone consistently compares them to each other when they’re not alike at all. Alex is the son of a Mexican immigrant and has never had life the way Henry has. Ofc henry has his own struggles but the comparison always bothered Alex because it’s very different. I can’t fully explain it bc am drunk but 1000% read the book! Its so good

I agree that Nicholas is dedicated to his characters because he constantly learns to play instruments for his roles. Recently watched High Strung and his work with the violin is amazing for anyone, let alone someone who learned after getting the role. His goofiness in Bottoms is just another level that he isn't afraid to be the whole character. Excited for his next movie, I think coming out this year. Kind of makes you wonder what happened with Cinderella... lol but we won't open that discussion.
